Been using two of these in my Macbook´s Pro 17 2011 for many months now. They work like a charm. Also unlock with Apple Watch.

Hi, I'm Macbook Mid 2012 owner here. Can't wait for the good news of this before the holiday too! I wonder if you might be able to ship this abroad?

Hi, why not just get a 2015 ? They are now close to the price of the 2012's
Not if you already own a 2012. Yes the 2015 and later are faster—NVMe 3 x4 over the PCIe bus is theoretically 6x faster (of course, that isn't real but there's a noticeable speed bump).

There are also those who like the SuperDrive — 2012 was the last year for that.

Very easy to upgrade the storage with a small Phillips driver and a little time—no adapters or pentalobe screws. A 4TB SSD costs less than $500 (if you need that much storage) and smaller SSDs cost less, of course. They run a little cooler with the mechanical drive gone. Likewise, batteries are readily available and the RAM is not soldered in.
SanDisk Ultra

The original HDDs are pretty much shot by now. I test every one I pull and not one passes the entire SMART battery.

People like these. I use mine mainly for testing though. With better WiFi, I might get more use out of it.

Couldn't agree more with you! Although it's an old machine, it's upgradeable. That's the plus.

Holy crap. I just read through this entire forum thread. All 41 pages. @troop231, you're a saint for dealing with some of the pushy folks who don't read the recent posts or the documentation on your site. I know I wouldn't have been so pleasant about it. Thank you for putting up with us plebs in as decent a manner as your can.

That said, I'm subscribed for stock updates and am very excited to ditch my final 802.11n radio, provided I'm lucky enough to get one before inventory sells out again.

Patiently looking forward to your next batch when it's ready!

Also a shoutout to @highvoltage12v for your continued support on this project. Thank you, too!

Thanks for your idea. However, if I want to upgrade my macbook, I would prefer to save my money for the new model since 2015 is quite old already :)

My main goal, besides to get better WiFi, is also to test the new incompatible macOS (BigSur) in this machine.
Oh hell yes!

I and other owners will be interested in seeing if Big Sur can actually be run on this machine.

I have one housekeeping task to finish before my iMac Pro gets Catalina (tomorrow, perhaps?) but no way it gets the next MacOS before my bread & butter apps are thoroughly tested on something. If I have to buy a later Air or something, then I will but I hope someone can

The cards have entered the final phase of assembly. :D

One last round of testing after that, then heatshrink and packaging.
Excellent!

What does the final phase and testing entail? How many will be in stock? Do you have an estimate when they'll be ready for sale?

I ask because I had to head home for family reasons, and I don't want to miss out. Not asking for special treatment, just trying to and plan for availability.

Thanks @troop231

Hi, final phase just refers to the final 3 solder joints for each card that are incredibly finicky to get right; sometimes takes a few tries and can eat up time quickly. Testing means each card is tested for a 1300 Mbps link speed to an AirPort Extreme router and a certain signal strength (directly related).

Stock numbers can't be published anymore, but I can say that it's very easily the biggest batch yet! As far as an estimated date, we had one but tons of interruptions occurred that had to be dealt with so we removed those dates. I highly doubt it will be this week, since it's already Wednesday now.

I hope your family is ok! :)

OK, cool, then I shouldn't have a conflict. And, thanks. Not looking forward to the next couple days, but life goes on...for most. :/

Hi. Just stumbled across this after upgrading my router and having a 2011 MBP. Great work and initiative. Will be ordering when available.
