If I buy a new iPad right now I don't think I would again upgrade next year OLED displays doesn't seem like an incentive strong enough for me to be able to upgrade. So whatever I buy now will stay with me for a couple of years atleast !

I love Samsung AMOLED screens and think they are vastly superior to any LCD. That being said Apple's LCD are one of the best and as much as I do love Amoled it's not worth upgrading to if you have a fairly new Ipad IMHO.

It's a tiny thing but another difference is that the 9.7" iPad Pro has the first generation TouchID sensor in it whereas the 10.5" has the second gen sensor. Apple claim that the second gen sensor is more accurate and about twice as fast as the first gen. I confess that I've never tried a first gen TouchID device but I've got so used to the as-if-TouchID-isn't-even-there speed and convenience of the unlock on my iPhone 6s that I couldn't go back to anything that wasn't as invisible in its operation as the second-gen sensor. I'm not sure how the first gen sensor fares in that respect.

Apple had already released the iPhone 6s with the second gen TouchID 6 months earlier by the time it launched the 9.7" iPad Pro and this might sound a bit crazy but I was so infuriated that Apple had put an outdated part into what was a very premium-priced iPad that I skipped that release in large part due to the TouchID sensor. I'm ready for a change now though - 10.5" iPad Pro ordered on launch day and scheduled for delivery next Tuesday.

I've had an iPhone 6 plus and 7 and an iPad Air 2 and the 2nd Gen is faster and more accurate to the point you can notice.

Honestly, you’ll only be able to answer this for yourself when you get a chance to pick one up and hold it in store.

I get where you’re coming from. The 9.7” Proi (and Air 2 for that matter) feel incredible to hold. So thin and light but still solid.

To me though, I wouldn’t hesitate to go to the 10.5” instead. I know there’s slightly increased dimension, and 30g extra weight, but the fact that they kept it nearly identical in size yet managed to increase the screen surface by 20% and keep the thinness at 6.1mm is amazing. I’d say it has a pretty killer look with the screen to bezel ratio increasing substantially. I was worried that it was going to get thicker as well, maybe matching the 12.9 in that regard. And the specs are all just icing on the cake.

But yeah OP, I. would go with the 10.5. The 9.7 will age a lot faster with that 2GB of ram.

And buying a device for its size and weight is not a wise decision ? I have to pay heed to the internals aswell. That's what you guys are saying ?

Oh but people have been telling me for months that 2GB of ram will last forever, that I was stupid not to buy the 9.7 pro due to concerns over ram. Glad I listened to myself!
Same thing happened to me with the Air 1. I wrote here it was an unbalanced device and thus, bad. Some people got really angry, 1gb more than enough blabla. Of course, one year later it did not support split-view. People just never learn! ;-)

Do you guys see Apple is now going to keep the 10.5" screen size in future for the entry level iPad Pro ? Or maybe somewhere down the future it might again come up with some new screen size ? And the 120 Hz refresh rates that the 10.5" iPP has, it will slow down with new and new iOS updates getting installed on the device right ? As new iOS updates generally make the device slower.

Think of the refresh rate as a cap on how fast the screen is allowed to refresh. It doesn't impose any sort of penalty on performance on its own, nor make any special demands. So I don't think that talking about 120Hz in terms of longevity is the right question to ask.

The real question is this: Which iPad will allow for apps to refresh more frequently, providing smoother animation and less latency on input? The answer to that is always going to be the one with more hardware oomph behind it. The A9X will age more quickly than the A10X on that front, period. That's even ignoring the RAM advantage as more hungry apps like ProCreate and Affinity Photo start showing up.

The difference is that apps that can run at 60fps today, will be able to run at up to 120fps on the 10.5".

For longevity, the internals do matter. But I also think you are overblowing the differences in size/weight between the two. I would really try the 10.5" in person before you write it off in terms of size/weight.

10.5". Go to your local post office and ask for the mover's coupon pack. There is usually a 10% off Best Buy coupon in there. Might be able to combine that with the $50 gift card offer? Not sure. I used this to get $77 off my 128GB iPad Air 2 + leather smart case at launch. I ordered from Apple this time because it took a couple weeks last time to find the model I wanted in stock and I'm going on a trip soon and want to bring it with me to edit photos and try doing some digital landscape paintings up in the mountains.

Prob the best comparison pic I see (from mashable). The difference is noticeable

2014 called, there's no more Best Buy movers pack at the post office.

LOL, I can't wait for this time next year. We'll be hearing the same thing all over again.....how the iPad Pro 3 is the best thing since sliced bread....and how people are so happy they waited....and how the iPad Pro 10.5 is old and slow, etc. etc.

Yeah ! It looks slight taller than the 9.7" Looking forward to see it in person. But from the pictures kind of looks too big IMO.

Nice assumption. These new iPad Pro's are power houses with A10 X chip, 120 HZ refresh rate, 4 GB of RAM, P3 color gamut, 600 it's a brightness, expanded Pencil support. No one's complaining about anything and iOS 11 made the iPad even stronger.

He's talking about when the next model gets released. What he's describing actually does happen every single year. Of course you also have the other side of the fence who'll say the new model isn't a significant upgrade over the 2017 Pro 10.5. :p

Except for the fact that it looks huge.

I was just further strengthening that these new iPads won't necessarily get "Slow" just because someone decides to complain about it. But yes, there will be a thread someone starts on why someone believes these new iPads are slow or old. This is the best Apple has implemented with a stronger version of iOS into these power house 10.5/12.9 iPads, which will create a really promising experience.

Since you have referenced a sentence I've just wrote, I'll answer. :) Last year I heavily criticized the iPad pro 9.7. I called it a lazy project to increase the average selling price, cramped by the 2gb of Ram and with an unacceptable amount of base memory for the price. Most common answer:
"LOL, I can't wait for this time next year. We'll be hearing the same thing all over again.....how the iPad Pro 2 is the worst thing since x and y etc."
The point is, when apple does a crappy job, people are happy to criticize, me first. Conversely when they do something good, and fix flaws, they should be plauded. As simple as that. I still think accessories are way overpriced and smart keyboard is ****. ;-)

I'll wait until next year and see what happens. I'm betting the same thing that happens every year.

To be honest, I won't even have to wait that long. All I need to do is wait another 3 months and the same phenomenon will happen in the iPhone forums.
