On iPad (haven’t updated phone yet so not sure if it happens there), is there a way to stop having the 4 “start page” or recent sites tiles from showing up as small thumbnails near the bottom of the screen every time I reopen the browser? It’s annoying af.
If you scroll up far enough on the Safari start page you will see ”Edit” at the bottom. Click that and you can turn off a bunch of stuff.

I can’t stand the new Safari design. I’m seriously thinking about going back to 14 if thats even possible. The Tabs are now on top of the bookmark favorites…where I have numerous folders. And the font size is far bigger, and with the added logos and color…it’s a frickin mess to look at. It’s really distracting.
The IPSW file for ios14 is still available (signed). Don't wait too long though...

I downloaded it, but I’m hesitant as I’m afraid of blowing away the entire contents of my iPad and having to start over.

Thanks but none of those options remove the 4 thumbnails that pop up every time safari launches. grrrr.

I am trying to like but it keeps making me mistype as I get distracted by Google search suggestions! This poll really needs a unsure option.

I am not a fan for the following reasons: I hold my iPhone in my left hand. I am used to being able to close browser tabs by clicking the X in the upper left hand corner, which could be done with one hand. Now for no reason at all the X has been moved to the right, making it a two hand operation. Why? Secondly, I used to click in the address bar to bring up favorites, and they were right there. Now I click in the address bar at the bottom of the screen and have to then go all the way to the top of the screen to access the favorites. Why? Why not just have favorites pop out from the bottom?

Oh ok…I think I‘ve seen that happen on Numbers. I think you have multiple instances of Safari open. Do the 3 finger swipe up if you have a Magic Keyboard, or if not, one finger drag from the lower left corner until you see all running apps. Then just flick up on the extra Safari ones that you see to get rid of them.

To see all your open apps, Split View workspaces, and Slide Over windows in the App Switcher, do one of the following:

This was exactly the culprit. Weird - thank you!

Anyone else’s Safari slowed down to a crawl after the update? As I mentioned elsewhere, let’s say I try to close a “Tab”, it now takes Safari upwards of 10 seconds to complete the task during which the app is unresponsive. This is on an iPhone 11 Pro.

I’m fine on an XR.

I tried turning off the hide IP function and things improved but only marginally. So I am now back to 14.8 and will stay here for a while until Apple gets the worms out.

I rolled my iPad back to 14.8. 15 was just too hideous to deal look at. I‘ll just stay with this for a while.

Open a new tab on Safari on the iPhone. Scroll to the bottom (below Favorites, Frequently Visited, Shared with you, Privacy Report, Reading List, and you'll see currently open tabs on your other devices.
Yeah, if only…. But no, there’s tabs that I had open about a year ago, and no matter what I do (turn off safari sync, and so on), they just come back when I turn sync on again and open Safari on the other device.

the other thing that is weird is closing a tab that you are currently viewing. I think the clicks to do so are the same but it feels like it's slower. the second thing that is strange is when you get to your grid of tabs. when you had them all in a stack you would just swipe them off. now they are in a two column layout. swiping them off is not intuitive, because you swipe both columns to the left. I find myself wanting to swipe the right column to the right to close a tab.

I like the new bottom address bar but is there a way to stop it popping up and down as I keep catching it and staging the whole tab to tabs view and it’s frustrating the hell out of me. I thought this is why u tap the bottom right hand corner to activate the address bar and then tap the two squares to activate the open tabs. It just want to be able to access it myself without it piping up and me staging the windows every single time. Thanks

Don't know why so much hate on the new Safari. Since they fixed the tabs being on the same bar as the dress one in beta 2 or 3, its basically the same as before + some great improvements. And just for the new extension feature alone, I won't go back to iOS1iPadOS 14 for sure.

New Safari on iPad is great. Especially tabs, makes it very easy to navigate and close. iOS 15 on iPad is a big win thus far.

I was hovering between Edge and Safari but the new Safari has tipped me over the Edge.
I'm now fully Edge on MacOS, iOS, and Windows.

wasn’t a fan of the animations initially on my 11 Pro Max, but definitely feels better on the 13 Pro Max

I hated Safari 15 on the iPad so much that I downgraded to iPadOS 14.8. Well that and the garbage they call a Home page under 15. Thankfully they didn’t screw up iOS Safari 15 like they did in iPadOS 15.

Finally got myself a 12 mini after using an 11 that was to big for me.

always used reachability to type the url.
received the mini last Saturday, and I could reach the address bar with ease, 2 days later iOS 15 came out 🙄🙄

Happy with my 12 mini and iOS 15 and safari 😊

What is the problem with Safari 15 on iPad ? Seriously it feel just like 14 with new features. I can understand someone don't necessarily like the new design layout on both devices, but in both of them there's an option to revert it almost like before.

Personally just for extensions alone makes third party browsers almost useless on iOS now + the new group tabs feature is way more useful than I first thought.
