Have ibrik, will travel.
hehe your post is funny...and the idea of hiding all your crap under a beautiful wallpaper is akin to pushing all your crap under your bed...hmmm

While we're discussing apps to help you sweep things "under your bed"...I've used Desktopple for several years. It is available in a feature-rich Pro version and a Basic version (and a cool Widget!), both offer a free trial, then, if you like it, the $17 for the Pro version. I run the Basic on my 10.4.11 PB G4.

I first came across the FoggyNoggin software creators when I was looking for a rapid method to clear the deck for AV presentations and screenshots. Not all of us have messy bedrooms, but sometimes it's just smarter to "keep the door shut for company". ;)

The kooky logic is thus

Every time I have an OS X problem - I'm told in this place that it's my fault.

Yet this guy has a problem, and immediately assumes it's Win 7's fault, not his.

Where's the logic in that.?

THAT is the kooky logic.

No, you're the one with the logic issue. The other guy didn't accuse you of your problems being your fault. You said if he had problems they were his fault, yet your problems are your computer's.

When you can buy a Windows laptop at Best Buy for $200, $1,000 for the cheapest Mac Laptop looks like a whole lot of money.

Even though the MacBook has superior specs to a cheap Windows laptop, most people just use their notebook to surf Facebook so they don't care about the specs as much as they care about the extra $800.

$200 laptop versus $1000 MacBook
SAME AS
$20K Honda versus $100K BMW

Someone looking to buy a cheap 200 dollar netbook on sale at Best Buy won't be looking at a macbook or macbook pro anyways.

You don't have to buy new. You can buy used or refurbished and get awesome deals. I just sold a 2 month old Macbook 13", my college gave me it, because I already had a MBP. I sold it locally on craigslist for 750$, it was still under warranty, and I threw in Office 2008, disc and everything. The thing was only lightly used in the 2 months, it was brand new basically. I have seen similar deals on Ebay as well. As long as you buy from someone who has a lot of good rep, or buy locally, you should have a good chance. 200$ "netbook" versus 700$ Macbook, I would go with the MB every single time. It will be faster, have a dual core processor, more upgradability, and run Windows if needed.

I love the "car" analogy. Seeing as how it is flawed and you cannot apply it to this situation. What's next, the coffeemaker comparison?
LOL.

What's wrong with the car analogy? Just curious as to what is your distaste for it?

The problem is a honda isn't made from the EXACT same parts as a BMW. The Honda doesn't come with better warrantees, nor better service. For what you pay for a Mac you should be getting a lot more from Apple in the service department than you really do.

I'm not going to rag on Macs though. I really like them and am willing to pay a premium for them even if it's not entirely justified.

And that's just that, your opinion. Most Mac users aren't doing that and seeing how Apple is selling more and more Macs, Windows 7 hasn't put any dent in their business.

You're right it's just my opinion. I don't reall care what other computer users are doing.

Windows 7 has VASTLY SUPERIOR wallpapers and themes included than any OS X .

Considering Apple and Macs are supposed to be design-centered, it's ironic Microsoft's OS has much cooler psychedelic and anime wallpaper than the kinda stale Leopard and SL wallpaper.

I think the OS X Finder looks terrible compared to Windows 7 explorer.

Windows 7 seems "fresher" and new, and the grey and aqua theme is looking very long in the tooth.

Aero is better than grey/metallic grey.

Look at this -

Oh come on... you sir, are a pothead. You allude to smoking blunts in your first post, and now this "wheee... look at all the trippy colors in this W7 wallpaper! The flying turtle is like... woah". How are we supposed to take you seriously when you complain about being unproductive while using Mac OS X? Have you considered that the reefer may also be playing some role in your lethargy Cheech?

About why I feel more "productive" on Windows than a OS X.

Don't take it to mean that I'm "unproductive" on a Mac in a negative way - when nothing can be further from the truth.

I have friends who use both and feel the same - hidden registry files in OS X and the cute icons and multitasking combined with Expose and creative apps creates something called the "OS X Procastination Curse."

I've seen it in myself, and friends in college.

Basically, OS X is engineered and designed in a way that doesn't put you in a productive, business-like state of mind.

If you're in a creative field like graphic design/music/ etc, then the effect is null -- but for right brained people with scientific and business minds, OS X has an effect of making you want to watch movies, browse casually, listen to music, and look at cute icons and effects.

It's not a NEGATIVE thing, so much as, say, I have a deadline, and I feel somehow like I focus more on a project and am not distracted on Windows 7 then on OS X.

On OS X, I just click on icons and play around instead of focusing on writing a paper, or word processing, or doing a spread sheet.

I believe OS X induces procrastination for business/serious disciplines.

Something about the cute icons.

Definitely some subliminal programming

I dont think this is right...

With Windows i always found that i would get errors, n would get annoying pop ups, would get crashes.. a while back a new vista machine my parents had bought somehow crashed when i tried to eject a USB stick. Things like that i find just dont happen in Mac OSX.. Im able to turn on, listen to some itunes in the background open up word, and away i go.. The UI is not nearly as intrusive in mac OSX as it in windows.. Even XP looks quite bad from that aspect.

A new feature of Win 7 is the black screen of death, replaces the BSOD.

And how cool that they picked a colour so they didn't have to change the letters. Very thoughtful of them. I mean if it was a Red Screen of Death we would all have to learn to type RSOD, but Microsoft in an effort to be in line with the productivity that the OP is talking about, made the letters the same. Thanks Micro$haft.

Sir if this passes for art, I am going to send my 4 year olds latest creation to Micro$oft post haste. I could be in for a fat royalty cheque.

*snicker :D

To be fair though, I was a little underwhelmed by the new Snow Leopard wallpapers. A few very good and a bunch I really don't care for. But at least none of them are "psychedelic".

If that is another Windoze 7 wallpaper...I must say it's highly appropriate for someone who does bong hits while using the computer. :D

I just went through this exercise for a friend on Black Friday / Cyber Monday.

Most of those $450 - $700 laptops are dual core intels. When you press into a core2duo, you start to hit the $750 range minimum.

For someone doing web surfing or a kids computer, it's perfectly acceptable, although you get the windows headache tax of cleaning that piece of crap up every six months. Most of those cheap deals are still pushing Vista... WTF?

I even looked at Dell's cyber Monday Inspiron deal, which wasn't a deal when you looked at it closely. Talk about borderline deceptive practices...

When it came down to it, the Macbook was a fantastic deal. Mac Connection had the White Macbook on sale for $849.

The bottom line is you get what you pay for.

I feel I need to clarify a few points and offer public disclosure.

I have never smoked a blunt or "reefer."

I have strong data that suggests that OS X has a psychological effect on users that is built into the OS and hardware - something to do with OpenXL and hidden binaries.

The prominent effect is reduced productivity in fields like business, sciences, and law. This is borne out by lengthy observation and supporting evidence from eminent tech writers, columists, and gurus in the field.

Paradoxically, creative people do attain greater productivity, but only because the hidden subliminal kernel in OS X engineers them to do so.

I should know - I've been using a Mac exclusively for three years. OS X has a secret, and that secret is subliminal programming designed to keep one happy, content, and trapped into an intolerant state of mind.

The question needs to be asked - is this ethical ? Is neuro-pyschological engineering ethical, and should it be implemented in an operating system ?

I know this. I remember the smirks I gave to the people sitting next to me when I saw them using Windows XP. I remember the rush of adrenaline , the overwhelming sense of power that seemed to infused me just by looking at the Finder and summoning the Dock.

For lack of a better word - I believe a hidden kernel programs Mac users to be anti-Windows and display a heightened snobbery.

I admit, I was one. My friend is currently studying the OS X code and kernel for clues.

This is documented
