agreed, they did it with the iPhones and I reckon they will do it with the iPads in the future (except the base model iPad)I thought about this and it turns out I only use about 28GB on my mini 5. Id be tempted by a 128 option, but am not shelling out for 256.
I reckon 128 will be the starter option next time they upgrade the mini, which probably won’t be for a couple of years… unless Apple do a silent refresh.
This is more an opinion than a question. I think it was a total d!ck move of Apple to even give this as an option. It's 2021, why on earth is any device still sporting an old 64GB HDD? Obviously Apple wants users to buy the more expensive one, it should have been 256GB vs 512GB. I was kind of looking forward to a new iPad Mini, but this just frustrates me with how it's such a blatant money grab.
that doesn’t mean we can’t complain as consumers. I think the upgrade in Aus was over $200.
for something that probably doesn’t cost Apple $5.
I ended up canceling my Space Grey Mini 256GB order at Best Buy that I placed 4 days ago. The 256GB Mini 6 was an impulse order for me. This morning I decided to order from Apple: the Space Grey 64GB Mini 6 with AppleCare+ and the Smart Folio. I'll be picking those items this Saturday at the Apple Store. The reasons why I canceled the 256GB Mini 6 order from Best Buy are:
1. Most of the storage space on the 256GB Mini 6 will be wasted space for my usage. I'm currently using 35GB on my 128GB iPhone 12 and more than half of the the apps on my iPhone 12 I won't be using with the Mini 6.
2. For me, it's not worth the extra $150 from the 64GB to 256GB.
3. The 64GB iPad Mini is going to be for media streaming, web browsing, email, and reading ebooks.
4. When I decide to trade in the 64GB iPad Mini 6, it won't loose much value.
For me it’s even worse when I go home to visit family. Long flights with no streaming and poor internet speeds there means everything I might want needs to be on my devices. That's been my experience in an awful lot of places across the US. I do not depend on the cloud or having connectivity.
Awesome. What's the size of your iTunes library, out of curiosity? I'm running about 170GB right now. Curated since '06.One thing I personally love about the larger storage size is the ability to carry a complete, full resolution, copy of my entire local iTunes/Music library with me.
Yes - I'm one of those. I do use Pandora also, but I have carefully curated my local library since the late 90's and I have no plans to ever stop. It's a dearly prized possession and ongoing labor of love -- really nice to have that with me and also serve as a full backup for the core files (although I'm backed up in about 4 different ways locally and offline also)
Points #2 & #4 are big ones.
On #2 -- They are charging too much for that upgrade. Really maddening. Should be $99 upcharge, no more.
On #4 -- Another key point. It's somewhat amazing to me that Apple offers the exact same trade-in value (on iPad mini 5) for the completely base model (64gb WiFi) and the totally maxed out model (LTE 256GB). At original MSRP, just like with the Mini6, those models had hundreds of dollars of price difference. It's mind blowing that they don't offer a nickel more for those trading in a maxed out model.
If ever considering future trade in value, always know that the base models will be the best bang for the buck -- by far.

Nothing stopping you from copying a large movie collection downloads to a petite USB-C based storage device and playing that on the iPad mini 6 now.For me it’s even worse when I go home to visit family. Yeah, I'm due for a good purge myself. Been thinking about that a lot lately.I’ll have to double check but I think I’m down at about 120.
I have actually removed some stuff over the years… The curation is always ongoing in that regard

Yeah I had to make a decison—256GB or cellular. I decided to go for cellular since I have a 12.9 wifi-only with 512GB of storage. If i’m going to have two iPads, they need to be drastically different from each other. And I can always connect an external SSD if I need more storage.I ended up canceling my Space Grey Mini 256GB order at Best Buy that I placed 4 days ago. The 256GB Mini 6 was an impulse order for me. Yes, this is not surprising if you consider that people that are buying used devices are often doing so because price is the most important factor - such as because they are not able or willing to pay more, or it is a low priority. Thus they are not willing to pay much for options or upgrades. Hence Apple, or other resellers of used equipment, will likewise not pay much for options or upgrades. On #4 -- Another key point. Swappa costs more for more storage. This seems less of a demand thing and more of an apple thing.
