Ok so I'm still failing here to install 12.3 or any Monterey on my cMP 5,1. I have 11.6.5 working no problem. I did have 12.2.1 working but ever since the OTA update I can't seem to make the upgrade work.

After a few boots, normal instal, it gets to a reboot then loads and fails with a pop up that says from the macOS update assistant, A required firmware could not be installed. Once you click ok, the computer hangs or reboots which you'd have to boot from another drive then I get the crash report.

Never seen that error report. Also interesting it says the OS is not set.

To get here, I tried a few things all lead to the same. The most recent was a new clean sata drive for the destination, then had a 16gb thumb drive and used the open core patcher gui app (v.0.4.3) downloaded and created the install disk, opened the EFI with clover configurator and dropped in the 0.79 open core package found here: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...n.2180095/page-53?post=28255048#post-28255048

I'm just wondering, is there something I'm missing or there's something up with my cMP hardware?
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

You need to correct the FirmwareFeatures (that's why you are seeing the window asking for the required firmware update) and to add the ASPP-Override.kext to your ESP and to your config plist.

Instructions and the ASPP-Override.kext itself you can get on the first post of the thread linked above.

Btw, use one implementation or another, don't mix OCLP with @h9826790 implementation of OC - OCLP 0.4.3 already have both ASPP-Override.kext and FirmwareFeatures correctly implemented.

Ok, I've installed Open core successfully! Thank you for this great post. The issue I now have, is i cannot find a working installation for Big Sur. I only get Monterey. Since I use this Mac for Music Production and VST plugins, I do not want to use Monterey. I've tried the safari route, which brings me straight to the app store. I click on "more info" but it keeps brining me to the Monterey Page. I've tried the terminal command route and NOTHING. not sure if it just disappeared. Does anyone have a manual installer? Thanks in advance.

There are a couple of different ways to get old versions (not the current release) of macOS. One is detailed here - How to Download macOS Monterey, Big Sur, Catalina & Mojave Full Installers

@Uranga

Download and install MDS or OpenCore Legacy Patcher (GUI.app.zip) softwares. Then you can :

1. Download the last macOS installers
2. Create macOS bootable installers
3. Do a clean install of Big Sur 11.6.5 (with OpenCore 0.7.6 for example)

Good luck !
thanks for the info. as I mentioned, I'm using it for music production so I need all of my apps, VSTs, plug-ins, samples, sounds ect, so too much of a migration to do a "clean install." I'm looking for just an update. Thanks

I had the same firmware update error while installing Monterey 12.3 over Big Sur 11.6.4 on cMP 5.1 (using Martin Lo open core 0.7.9) and what worked for me was editing the config as shown in this video from Martin Lo

For newer macOS, the system files are protected even SIP is disabled anyway. So, IMO, SIP is mainly to avoid users to use 3rd party kext / software etc, but not really to protect system files anymore.

My package is aim at providing HWAccel, then insert more bonus (or requested) functions with greatest compatibility. Security is not the primary concern. In fact, that's a bit contradicting to "max compatibility" (due to some software need SIP to be disabled by default).
Hi Martin, thanks for providing your package - it makes using OC a breeze.

Can SIP be toggled on and off by just changing the relevant value in Config.plist and rebooting?

Is there any functionality in your package that will not work when SIP is enabled?

It sounds like in your opinion, SIP offers no real security benefit and just gets in the way of certain operations (e.g. blessing drives or dumping bootroms). Would you therefore advise to just leave SIP permanently disabled?

Can

May be, I haven't tested them all in every single macOS release. But main functions should work regardless SIP status.

My personal opinion is to keep that off. And I keep my cMP's SIP disabled. But that's really just my personal choice.

As I said before, more than one of my package users reported that some of their software can only be used when SIP disabled. An due to my package aim at max compatibility. Therefore, I set SIP disabled by default.

But if you want to turn SIP back on (which is Apple's recommendation, I have no objection to that). And you can't feel any downside for your daily use. Then of course you can turn on SIP, enjoy the "Apple way".

Does anyone had any issue with Bluetooth 4.0 support in Monterey 12.3 , on cMP 5.1 please ?
Everything is working fine, but my Fenvi Wifi+Bluetooth card (the one you have to plug into usb port) doesn't work.
I have Wifi 802.11 ac , no problem but my Bluetooth is very laggy and doesnt show as 4.0

Everything was running fine under Big Sur 11.6

My advice is to get a Pcie wifi/bt card

Is there any chance some of the methods in this thread will help me, an opencore (0.7.9) Big Sur user running a 3900x on an x570 with an rx6900xt? I would like to enable gpu-based 10-bit HEVC encoding in FCP, Compressor, and Resolve Studio. Decoding works to allow smooth playback of 10-bit 4k HEVC in some programs, but not all. In no program can i use the gpu to encode 10-bit HEVC. Thanks for any insights you may have.

I am on 12.2.1 still and have intermittent bluetooth issues - usually a restart fixes. I did the 4.2 Broadcom card update in my cMP 5,1. But sometimes bluetooth is just gone and doesn't show up in system profiler. That being said this started after travelling 1600km with my cMP in the back of the car so it may have been jostled. I will take a peek inside the beast when I have some free time in the next couple days and see if maybe something jostled loos (need to reseat my GPU anyway as I'm getting horiz pixel flashes on my 30" ACD whenever there is black on screen).

Speaking of Bluetooth – it works fine for me in Monterey 12.3 and OC 0.7.9, but any ideas why my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard keeps loosing connection between reboots? I now have to connect the cable and then unplug it again for the keyboard to connect via Bluetooth. Wasn't like that before so I think it's something that changed in recent version of the OC package.

Edit:
Seems to work after updating to Monterey 12.3.1!

Edit 2:
And then it didn't after a second restart after turning off the Cpuid1Mask. Damn it.

@h9826790 Hello again. Mac Pro 4,1->5,1. Flashed Titan Ridge on Slot 4. With OCLP , the thunderbolt is recognized, but does not work right, speed drops ans stops. With your package 0.7.9, though I have edit the config file as in your video, thunderbolt is not recognized. Can you help me? Thanks.

Again, congratulations for your great work.

I want to update from Monterey 12.2.1 to 12.3.1, but the Software Update preferences pane tells me "Your Mac is up to date -- macOS Monterey 12.2.1 (21D62). I have been using Martin's all-in-one package for several versions already and am now on 0.7.9 on my cMP 4.1->5.1.

Also the "softwareupdate" command believes I am on the most recent version already.

Any idea what I could do? Thank you :)

You have to do this when updating Monterey, not just the initial upgrade/install.

2) The video you are looking for is literally in the post before yours. Changing the CpuidMask does that.

4) To revert the config, just change the values back to what they were before you edited them, or replace the file with the one you originally downloaded.

Hi Guys,
Well, running Bir Sur on cMP 5,1 over the last Martin's package but it seems iCloud syncing is broken. Did a quick search on this thread but couldn't find a solution.
Any advice on that? I would appreciate your help.

Hello everyone.
I bought a couple of XFX RX580 8 GB GPU's for some of my Mac Pro systems and I found a weird bug when booting those GPU's with OC.
Turns out this specific GPU model from XFX gives a green background color (instead of the black one) and some very weird rainbowy icons and names for the bootable partitions (instead of the regular colors and white text). Colors come back to normal as soon as you boot any partition and the OS loads the Log In Screen. Everything is working pretty damn fine, I even have a WIN10 partition with Warzone and it plays just fine, it's just the bootloader's colors that weird me out.
I tried both GPU's and both did the same on my mac pro's, tried on a PC and never got any green screens on boot menus, BIOS menus, etc. So I narrowed it down to the config file for OC's bootloader.
I've tried to get more familiar with the config file but I couldn't find anything regarding the color palette or color mode for the bootloader, at least not that I could understand.
Is there such an option in the config file for the GPU's color scheme on OC?

Here are the specs for the 5.1 that's keeping that GPU:
- Mac Pro 5.1
- 2x X5690
- 32 GB RAM
- XFX RX580 GTS XXX Edition 8GB GPU.
- Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7 on NVMe.
- OC 0.7.8 (Martin's package) on SATA HDD.

Thanks in advance!
