@h9826790 after update from 0.5.8 to 0.5.9 don't boot well... Preselect the efi partition and load it, showing again the boot menu... then I must select the MacOs partition and boot ok.

Then, these means that I have to stay in the computer to select the correct partition, otherwise didn't boot.

Do you know how can I solve it?

Thanks!

Set default boot drive in system preferences -> startup disk.

Or press Control + Enter in boot picker to set default boot drive.

Also, do you install two OpenCore copies on different drives? That EFI seems like another OC copy.

Sometimes, the simple way is the most effective!!! Seeing the default boot drive in system preferences work!!

I only have one OC copy on the Mac...

Hi all, found some promising info here and very detailed descriptions. thanks! I've tried the latest opencore package on my cmp 3,1 from 2008. It has the Radeon RX 580 pulse /8gb edition. I used and USB stick with an EFI Partition to be on the safe side, instead of my boot drive. up until now, no bootscreen or orinoco frame buffer. (confirmed via Hackintool) Is there anyone with a 3,1 that has managed to get this working via opencore 0.5.8/9 package? Or for that matter with the same non flashed card via another way? I'd like to have the acceleration. I can confirm though that 10.14.6 is way better for fcpx 10.4.7 than Catalina 10.15.4. GPU support seems to be broken or an there is some incompatability (like apple removed support...) in that case.

/edit. @h9826790 , do you have any thoughts on my situation?

one question, does the original Wifi of the Mac Pro 5,1 works in catalina? is there a fix for that? I go to network settings and when I click turn On, nothing happens.

thanks so much you rock!

You better check if Dosdude Catalina patcher can fix that.

You haven’t boot via my OC package yet, please remove the installed files, and try the whole procedure again (please make sure you follow the exact procedure, e.g. install OC at EFI folder, but not EFI partition root directory)

Please where do i find your package and the exact procedure to follow ?

yes I downloaded that
and followed the video to install ...
and I replaced the config file that I found here: file config

I have a white initial screen with apple and disk selection ... didn't I have to replace the config file?

Thanks

NO, my procedures never ask you to replace the config.plist.

You are lucky, because both cdf and me keep our shared files up to date. And the config base on the same OpenCore version.

NEVER do this again, config files not necessary work with others package. You should either follow exact cdf's procedures, or exact my procedures.

thanks..
I re-downloaded your package,I deleted the one installed before and followed the video procedure but the hardware acceleration is not activated ...

I have the initial white screen with the apple .. also gives me update to catalina available

I installed your open core files and guide and it works perfect thanks so much.

To install windows on a different SATA SSD, do I just follow the instructions of the official open core thread of this same forum? or how do in install it safely ?

thanks so much!

Correct, please follow that for Windows installation.

I kept getting freezes with Photos with Lilu (including 1.4.5) and WEG (including 1.4.0) which I couldn't escape from (mouse pointer worked, but nothing else responded), so I've removed WEG and all is stable again. I didn't have a compelling reason for hardware acceleration and HVEC anyway, so no great loss there.

Longtime forum member, newbie to this thread. I just read the whole thread, and ran #1314 on my MacPro. I'm thrilled to see a boot screen for the first time in years. After using a long series NVidia cards on my two vintage Mac Pros, I just made the jump to a Gigabyte Vega 64 Gaming OC card. I already had an external PSU, so wiring mods weren't needed. I updated my OS from HS to Mojave to take full advantage of the card. Then I found this thread.

First I used the method in post #1 to turn on HWA for h.264, which I want for rendering 4K h.264 video. Then I applied the method in post #594 and got the text-interface boot picker. Then I finished reading the thread and went back to post #1314 to get OC and a full graphics boot picker. I'll probably stick with Mojave for now and get used to the new system. Thanks to h98 and all the team for making this possible.

Curiously, after the update to OC, I can easily view the Swordsmith video in 4K cleanly without stuttering, which I couldn't do previously. OTOH, nearly all the HEVC jellyfish videos are still unwatchable, and the h.264 jellyfish videos are unwatchable above about 140 fps. VideoProc reports full acceleration for both H.264 and HEVC, and in Adobe Premiere Pro, I can export 4K video at both h.264. and HEVC at the same accelerated speed.

I'm not concerned, because I don't routinely process HEVC video, but since I shoot a Phantom 4 Pro drone that has the capability of recording in HEVC, I could take advantage of the smaller file size if I could reliably process the raw video in Premiere. Any thoughts, anyone?

Try another player (e.g. IINA or VLC).

Anyway, I think you mean 140 Mbps, but not 140 FPS.
You were right - at least half right. I did mean Mbps.

I already was using the VLC player, as QuickTime Player reports the Jellyfish videos as 'unplayable'. The Jellyfish videos loaded on VLC, but all the HEVC videos were using the CPU, which maxed out around 100 Mbps. In any case, I just downloaded IINC - and it works! The only video that doesn't play buttery smooth is the 400 Mbps, and that may be related to the fact that I have 4 monitors hooked up to this Vega 64 card. It supports 6 monitors, but I've observed that many video benchmarks are severly affected by multiple monitors.

Thanks again for your thoughtful and helpful ideas.

Did you enable hardware decoding in VLC?

D'Oh! I was using an old version of VLC. I updated, and now even the 400 Mbps 10-bit HEVC video plays smooth as silk. Moreover, both the CPU and the GPU appear to be nearly at idle - the machine isn't even breaking a sweat.

I posted on the GPU compatibility thread the benchmarks I'm getting now with this rig. I'm satisfied that I can get some more years out of it before I pick up a used 7.1 Mac Pro and start modding that.

Benchmark ................................ GTX-1070...........Vega 64
Furmark 1600x900 aa off................129fps.................234fps
Furmark 3840x2160 aa off ..............42fps..................179fps
LuxMark 2.0 Ball.............................27966.................38274
Geekbench 5 Compute Metal............19497..................61968

Hello,
I am new around and my first Hackintosh with dedicated GPU.
My build:
Open Core Catalina 10.15.4
i7 9700k
Z390
RX 580 Pulse

I have read about how to enable hardware acc, but find so difficult to do it.
Using the infos from the first post I am stuck at "no compat check boot argument" for Catalina.

I must mention that the EFI folder was received from a friend for installation. Was not my work.

A little help would be appreciated.

You better go for some Hackintosh forum.

The info in this thread is specifically for genuine Mac Pro 5,1. If you use the EFI / config / guide in this thread, your Hackintosh won't even boot. e.g. That no compat check boot argument is specifically for Mac Pro 5,1. Which you should never use on Hackintosh.

Also, you better activate QuickSync from your UHD630, rather than use the RX580 VCE / UVD. MacOS has better support for QuickSync in general.
