Tried to price match at BH.. they said they could only price match up to a certain amount, which happened to be $30 more than my invoice on Adorama.

I may try again but if they don't budge I'll just wait it out with my Adorama order.

11/24 - Wintertc - 15" 2.7/16/512/460 - Backordered

Mine still shows backorder, was about to cancel and order a 455 instead of 460 from B&H. I got on chat with Adorama and asked for ETA of the laptop expecting to her to say still on backorder. They told me it is being shipped out tonight. I asked to verify it is not just the AppleCare, because that has always showed pending. She verified my laptop is shipping out tonight and I should receive a tracking number shortly. Hopefully it is true because it still shows the same thing it has shown all along on the status page.

What an odyssey! Adorama showing backordered. Contact B&H about price match. Not willing to do full match - offered $150 of Adorama's $225 discount. I thought, "OK - good enough for a guaranteed ship date". Order placed with B&H. Reviewing order, see that free Parallels has been removed from my order. Much chat "support" trying to have this taken care of. They never would. Annoyed. Check credit card account. See Adorama has pending charge for laptop! Check Adorama website - only change is order status changed to "Invoiced", no other status information listed. Called Adorama support line, used automated order status check. This stated that my order would ship today, even giving a UPS tracking number. Holy Crap! Cancelled order with B&H (successfully, Whew!). Feeling a little bad about wasting my and B&H's time, but only a little. Order on the way from Adorama - waiting to see expected delivery date. Wheeeee!!

Mine shipped as well! Thankfully I decided against the price match from B&H since the first one was $30 more than Adorama, and the second one was $10 more but didn't come with Parallels. Got a shipping notification for UPS 3-day Saver just a while ago.

Just ordered:

15" MBP TB
2.7GHz
512 GB
Radeon 455

$2479 from B&H

Got the AppleInsider Promo Code (one time use) so I got $320 off this model and Parallels 12 for free. Also ordered:

1 USB C to Lightning cable
2 USB C to Micro-B (USB 3.0) cables
1 USB C to USB 3.0 (female) connector

Total = ~$2531 (no taxes)...this is LESS than the 2.6GHz/450 with a 512GB upgrade.

Taxes would have been around $200 so I saved $520 total vs buying from Apple ($2800+200) ordering from B&H with the AppleInsider Promo Code.

I'm praying that they don't say that it's NOW backordered (was In Stock when I placed the order). If not (please GOD) I should have mine by Thursday (1/5) evening.

not sure if people know this... once it's opened, you are not able to return it for a refund.
for some reason i thought Apple's return policy would apply to Adorama as well.

You can return through Apple, provided you have bought from an authorized retailer. B&H as well as Adorama count as authorized resellers.

Having lived in Manhattan, I've done business with both Adorama (six blocks from my apartment) and B&H. I vastly prefer B&H.

Adorama seems to thrive on chaos. Walking into their W 18th Street showroom is, to say the least, a frenetic experience. Trying to buy something - anything, regardless of price - is something of an ordeal. My last 'big' purchase from Adorama was my Thunderbolt Display in mid-2012. I walked out of the store with it and physically carried it home rather than order it and face their uncertain shipping and delivery timeframes.

B&H, on the other hand, seems relatively sane in comparison. Their Midtown store is absolutely huge, and most items are on display. You can stand there and test the equipment to your heart's content. In my experience, which includes two iMacs to date, B&H usually delivers what they say, when they say.

Like all businesses, both B&H and Adorama will admit that they are doing what they do for the money involved. Adorama has always seemed a little more focused on profit than B&H (perhaps it's a volume thing) and I know from personal experience that their trade in offers reflect that. All in all, I'd much rather do business with B&H, whether in person or via their website. I think they are more amenable and make more of an effort to please the customer. Adorama, on the other hand, doesn't seem to care very much whether the customer is happy or not.

Thanks...I feel MUCH better now, having ordered from B&H. Scheduled to receive mine tomorrow...if something is wrong, any advice? Deal with B&H directly or contact Apple?

I'd certainly call B&H first and seek their guidance. They may well tell you to contact Apple, but my guess is that they won't be particularly abrupt about it. Adorama might be; once they have your money, Adorama really doesn't want to be involved any further.

Received mine from Adorama... but it was 2.6 versus 2.7 as ordered. I am tired of waiting and after doing some research of the minor differences I decided to keep it. I called and they would only refund $89 not the $100 difference listed on their website. So I am going to try emailing them and if that doesn't get me $100 refunded I am going to dispute with my CC. Hopefully this goes smoother than the purchase...

Not seeing that you can if we are talking about refund.
  • Only items that have been purchased directly from Apple, either online or at an Apple Retail Store, can be returned to Apple. Apple products purchased through other retailers must be returned in accordance with their respective returns and refunds policy.

you are right. you can't get a refund.
here is the page on Apple's website that sounds like you can...
http://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/sales-policies/reseller.html

I sent an email to the address mentioned on the page with all the necessary information about Adorama. this is the reply from Apple:
"After reviewing your case, we found that your item doesn't meet our refund requirements. We understand that you are having a technical issue , however this return option is specific to customers who reject the terms and conditions of Apple’s One Year Limited Warranty."

I have no clue how one even "rejects the terms and conditions". I emailed them back with that question and waiting for a reply.

Never seen that before.
Looks like you can ask for a refund using the TOC as the reason.
For example. I buy a boxed software product. Take it home and open it. At this point I cannot return it. The first thing you do when installing is to read and accept the terms and conditions of the product. If you don't accept then you can't use the product but you can't return because you opened the box.

This policy says that you can return if you claim that you do not agree TOC.

I wonder how much this is used to get return/refund as an excuse as opposed to saying I just don't want which the reseller will say no.
