I just purchased it and am attempting to lay out an email template. Still not sure it's the right tool for layout/visual design work but it would be awesome if I could.

I don't doubt the value of Adobe products. They are superior to Affinity's in most ways, but if you're not a designer, it's not really worth the subscription price. I do a bit of design for my work, but it's my focus and so I don't live in Adobe apps all day long.

$50/month for programs that get lightly used once or twice a week and heavily used a handful of times a year is ridiculous.

Very true.

But if you think about it... the big Adobe products were always targeted towards professional users.

No one was paying $700 for Photoshop or $2,600 for Master Collection if they were just casual users, were they?

And the same thing is happening today. $50 a month is waaay too much for a once-in-a-while software suite.

At least Adobe offered Photoshop/Premiere Elements. And now there are even cheaper options from Affinity and others.

I do use Adobe CC every day and make money with it. So it's worth it to me.

But I totally see why people hate subscriptions! :)

I'm very interested in Affinity, but don't know if I'm going to pull the trigger just yet. I own CS5 and LR6 outright and have zero interest in the CC subscription based model, but do 98% of my editing in LR making LR Mobile a desirable option. Just wish you could access the functions without being a CC subscriber. Affinity seems like it might be overkill plus (as of right now) there's no way to access my custom made presets to apply to images in Affinity. Maybe with iOS 11 and the files app?

Had an issue with the billing of my 10.5 iPad Pro. Essentially they took the full ammount for my order from my account then took apple care and Apple Pencil amounts seperatly. I called up complained and got $50 refund.
So I am getting this for certain on Tuesday now.

Perhaps someone can give me some advise....

I own a small music production company, and for the last 5 years I have been paying a local graphic artist to design my album covers. I usually find photos from istockphoto.com and then the graphic artist simply adds my company logo and the album title in some fancy text over the top in a suitable style to complete the cover.

A couple of years ago I was told that in order to do this myself I would need an Adobe license. Since we only release music once or twice per year, the cost would have been more than the $100-150 I typically pay our graphic artist.

I'm wondering if this app would be enough to accomplish this with my iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil. Here are my needs:

1) I need to be able to crop and adjust the pixel resolution of a JPEG file.

2) Add text (I'd like to have a variety of nice fonts, perhaps some with 3D type effects) and my company logo over the top of the JPEG picture. This can sometimes be a bit complicated as it needs to be able to have good control over layers. For example, if the text has an "O" in it, I would need to be able to see the background image through the center of the "O".

3) I would like to be able to save some sort of template where afterwards I can just substitute in a new image and new text, and have the same layout every time for every album.

4) I need to be able to adjust the pixel resolution of the final covers to a few different sizes to make available to my distributors.

Would this app provide all this capability by itself? If so then I will definitely purchase it.

I dont know how it works with the 12.9" IPP but I have the 9.7" IOS 10 and have used it the last few days and it is awesome! I look forward to IOS 11 too (plus I have ordered a 12.9") but I wanted to take advantage of the discounted AP price available now.

I don't use Affinity Photo but it should easily do all of that.
I am a Pixelmator user and it might not be as advanced as Affinity Photo, it can do all of the above!

Affinity Photo can definitely do it.

If you can use the desktop version, then Scroll to the bottom of this page and click on the free trial to give it a go...
https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/photo/

Plenty of help either on You Tube or at this link...
https://affinity.serif.com/forum/in...l-affinity-photo-desktop-video-tutorials-200/

If the iPad version is the only option, then you will have to buy before you try.

Can someone please tell me if Affinity for the iPad can handle large RAW files from a DSLR (30+ megapixel Nikon NEF files) without lag? I have been trying to find out what the source file was in all their demo's but there is no information on that. I'm looking at the iPad Pro 10.5" and I was hoping to use Affinity to at least cull my photos - don't need it for crazy editing work, but I want it to be snappy when zooming to check focus, etc.

I bought it, too. I'm on a first gen 12.9 inch iPad Pro. Like it so far, save for a few things:
  • It doesn't access my photo library on my iPad for some reason. I can save to and open from my photo library on my iPad using Procreate. I hope I just missed something, but it defaults to iCloud which I find frustrating.
  • I've seen some pretty long progress bars. I'm not used to seeing that on an iPad. I hope this speeds up in the future.
  • The warp/liquidize image feature it amazing, but whatever I warp or pinch, when I apply it, it does the exact opposite. For example if I squish someone's face in (who doesn't love doing that), I hit apply and it pushes it out instead. If I shift something to the left, I hit apply and it shifts to the right. Frustrating.

I bought it to try and stop my reliance on adobe CC and its been amazing. I think this is the first true replacement for photoshop. its insanely powerful. its new to the App Store so there are a couple of bugs and a crash here and there but most of the time I'm still amazed that I can do things that used to require a full blown computer with photoshop to do.

I have made several comments above. I take alot of photos of my two dogs and if using indoor flash, I sometimes get green peteyes in photo. Typically using Affinity Photo on my MBP, I use the Brush Tool and recolor the eyes to normal. I just want to say now I have done this on my iPad Pro with Affinity Photo and using the Apple Pencil. OMG, I cant believe how much easier it was than using the Mouse on my MBP. I am really happy with this new AP app!

The short demo peaked my interest but at $20 I need some opinions/reviews. Anyone play around with it yet?
This shows how much computing has changed. Not so very long ago, an application with that kind of feature range cost several hundred Dollars. Then, things became a bit more affordable e.g. with Photoshop Elements at around $100 (though I own a not-so-old version of Photoshop Elements that has no selection tool that could compete with Affinity's excellent Smart Selection Brush). Now, $20 is already considered a risky investment for an extremely feature-rich photo editing software.

At the rate things are going, give it another 5-10 years and people will expect to get paid for using apps.

It gets even more amazing when it runs quite smoothly on my old iPad Air 2. Sure, it is probably much better on an iPad Pro, but it's not a definite requirement. Another example of how massively the computing world has changed in the last ten years. ;)

I currently do almost all of my photo processing in Lightroom, so much so that I haven't even bothered to install the photoshop that comes with the CC photographers package. I don't like subscriptions, so I'd like to replace my adobe apps before the next renewal. I do probably 80% of my processing on my Mac, and the rest on iPad, and syncing anything I do on the iPad back to the Mac is great.

Can anybody using Affinity in a similar way comment on how good it is as a Lightroom raw converter replacement?

Can I use my (mostly unutilised) 1TB OneDrive to share files between Affinity on Mac and iPad?

I'm wondering how this would handle the 42mp raw files from the A7Rii. I don't have much use for the photo retouching features but the actual RAW editing capabilities would extremely useful if it could handle the large raw files.

Quick question: Is it possible to replace both Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop with just this, especially on my desktops too?
