I would ask your question regarding your raw files, a fuji camera and Affinity Photo on the Affinity Forum. I only shoot in raw and use a Canon camera. To bring my raw files to Affinity App on my ipad, I had to transfer them to my macbook pro from my camera and then to my icloud drive. That was the only way I could do it at the moment and I'm a hobbyist shooting just a few photos at a time of my dogs so I dont mind. But for your Fuju camera, IDK, that's why I say ask on the Forum. You will have to register of course.

Completely forgot this app was out already, I put this on my to buy list last year. Does anyone know a good vector app though? I see there's a pen tool in AP which I'm excited about but I read Graphic is a good program for $9 but does anyone have experience with it? Need a mobile version of illustrator that isn't crap like illustrator draw. Also agree with the point made regarding supporting the devs with a minimal $20 purchase, these guys are really good we should back them up. This seems to be the first app of its kind in photo editing, I've seen nothing as full as this so far

Just purchased it. Will have a play when I get back from vivid in Sydney this weekend.
I'm just glad to get what seems to be a capable app at a reasonable price.

It makes me feel gross that people think $20 is too much for an app these days. This is a big reason why the iPad Pro hasn't taken off. If you guys want it to get better, you have to start paying into the system. I bought this app day one and it has been great. Support the devs of Pro apps if you want this platform to go anywhere. Otherwise us designers will be relegated to dark caves for the rest of our days.

The people I work with want this kind of app and would pay $50-200 for feature rich apps. The main issue is developers generally want a quick buck, that's why Apple should take the lead and jointly invest in feature rich app development. The developers of Affinity have created a comprehensive creation tool for professionals that may sell 20,000 copies, where as other such developers can spend 1/5 of the time and release a basic photos app for Free and charge in app purchases of $2.99 for extra filters, text etc have 5,000,000 downloads and 250,000 in app purchases.

I dont think people who would be interested in apps like this or procreate would bat an eye at the $20 price tag. But there is a lot of crap on the app store and I'm not going to throw $20 at pretty screenshots.

I happily buy whatever IAP comes out for Procreate bc it's stupidly cheap to begin with and i want to support the developer whenever i can. Same thing if these Affinity apps are as well done. I would even happily pay an adobe-esque subscription for the whole suit on ipad bc i would use them that much.

So you can stop feeling gross now.

Yeah, I've been harping for years for Apple to create a curated premium section of the app store. Maybe it could be a pro section and have a minimum price of like $20, and Apple could do a lot to promote apps from that section in their iPad Pro ads, in the new App Store that rotates through content daily, and through an improved system of app trials. They've done a lot lately to make developers look at it more seriously, such as subscription pricing dropping from 30% to a 15% fee after a year, app bundles, etc. But more could be done to prevent the race to the bottom, which is probably the biggest problem for developers.

That comment wasn't targeted so much at you as it was at others and the general population's stance on app pricing. Also see above.

I’m a working photographer and I wouldn’t bat an eye at spending $20-$50 on a piece of software like this. As a matter of fact, I didn’t bat an eye, I clicked Buy in just a few seconds. I have not had a chance to use it yet due to deadlines I’m working on, but I will within a month or so.

Completely. I have found Apple's marketing to be quite interesting, promoting the power of iPad very well but not investing in apps to properly show it off. I have confidence after this WWDC with iOS 11 that the things will progress with the iPad over the coming years and the hardware is already here to support it. It will be painful for those on devices before the Air 2 but the whole ecosystem needs to move on.

But tomorrow I will receive a new 12.9, and test performance of Affinity for myself. I will get back to you.

Okay, got my new 12.9 and Affinity. Here's my results, using a 50 MP Hasselblad RAW file. I would consider that a torture test. Not many people work with 50MP RAW files yet.

Disclaimer: This is not scientific, and my results have not been consistent. Maybe due to charging while installing and indexing a lot of stuff at first - ipad was quite warm. After a while timings settled at those described below.

I have the raw file stored in OwnCloud, synced to device. Affinity can open directly from there.

From clicking the file until image appears and can be viewed and manipulated: 5s +/- 0.4s
Zoom and pan is almost instantaneous, as is preview of adjustments.

Developing the file with default settings: 5s +/- 0.4s
Developing with all basic adjustments changed slightly (random): 27s
Developing with maxed out noise reduction: 50s +/- 1s

After developing:

Noise reduction preview seems instantaneous.
Noise reduction (10,30,60%) and pressing apply: 45s +/- 3s

Other functions (not using the RAW file used above):

HDR merge of 4 12MP jpegs: 16s

Panorama stitch of 4 12MP jpegs:
Preview stitch: 4s
Render panorama: 10s

One annoyance observed (could be my fault for not knowing the app very well):
When opening files for HDR merge or panorama stitch, I couldn't open images from Camera Roll. I had to copy the files to OwnCloud (or possibly similar) to be able to open them, and then I could only insert one image at a time. Very frustrating.
Maybe I do it wrong, maybe we have to wait for iOS 11 for smooth file exchange. Don't know at the moment.

Would like to see someone with a Macbook 12'' try the same thing as you and put the times up. To me it seems the new iPad Pro can rival anything up to a Macbook Pro 13 (nTB)

Really am impressed with the way affinity works on the new iPad. On my 12.9 pro it flies long and is no slower in real world use for me than on my desktop with an i7. This is my first iPad for a few years and I am seriously impressed by the speed and power of apps like this that are now available.

Did the exact same test with the exact same images on my 2009 iMac 27" i7 with 12GB ram and SSD drive:

Open raw: 13s
Develop default: 11.5s
Develop with all basic adjustments changed: 31.6s
Develop with maxed noise reduction: 23.9s

After develop:
Denoise: 12.4s

Jpeg 12 MP processing:
Hdr merge (denoise and tone mapping disabled): 19s
Panorama preview stitch: 7.7s
Panorama render: 9.6s

Note that Noise Reduction on iPad version is different from Denoise on Mac version. Options are different, so not a good comparison.

Some things are faster on the ipad and some are faster on the iMac. Overall the iPad version _feels_ snappier when navigating around.

I am truly impressed. Affinity is worth every penny. For my casual use, the iPad version will no doubt be my goto image processing software from now on.

Someone made a good point somewhere mentioning that people complain about not having desktop class apps on an iPad and also complain about paying $20 for an app.

Hopefully this will convince people to pay up for apps. App devs need to get paid for their work. You get what you pay for.

Yeah I think that's a good price for it, and cheaper than the Mac version although it is on sale

Keep in mind your iMac has a i7 quad core chip so yah it still kicks butt

Awesome test, cool to see essential a torture test of the new hardware and it seemed to do excellent, the importing raw photos through the cloud is a known bug and they are working on the fix so you will be able to import from your photos library

Any other opinions on the app itself and the performance of the app?
I have been using Affinity Photo on my 2015 mbp (maxed out for 2015) since 11/15. Used Affinity Photo on my 9.7" Pro yesterday in my recliner. I am blown away with its capabilities plus that added ability to use it in the comfort of recliner. I also prefer using the Pencil/iPP to edit vs the Mouse/MBP. Serif is working on some issues but for what I do, this ipad version is every bit as quick/snappy as the Mac version.

(Should have posted this here)

Just got IPP 10.5 and decided to try a pencil this time (had last gen 12.9 and skipped it).

Not an artist, so would only be doing simple photo processing on the odd occasion. Was considering getting it on iOS as manipulating photos with the pencil might beat the trackpad on Mac, but will it? Would buy it for either platform, but not both. Already have a Photoshop license on Windows as well.
