11.3 beta 6 with a TB3 monitor (Benq PD3220u) - it would occasionally work at 4K resolution (that is after a few restarts or turn off / turn on the monitor, or unplug the TB3 cable & replug it). Else, it is just defaulting at 1080p. I have a USB-C monitor Asus PA329C, and that is simply dead when connected via USB-C - the macbook does not recognise it, however when connected via DP-DP cable through a caldigit TS3 it is working fine - at 4K resolution with 60Hz.

I suspect Apple had mucked up their USB-C and TB3 monitor drivers badly.

I spoke with Apple support, and they asked me to rebuild the machine from scratch with 11.2.3 to see if then the monitors work, and that was a complete waste of time, as the issues persisted with the monitors.

I'm now left with using both monitors with using the DP ports.

Its the first solution for everything. Just delete everything and waste tons of hours for nothing...
After you did all resets...

I never heard a windows support suggestion format c or reset everything.

Update to this:

I mucked about with the settings for the BenQ monitor, and changed the display port settings from 1.4 to 1.2, and voila suddenly the BenQ is working at 4K - 60Hz when connecting it via Thunderbolt 3 directly to the computer. How bizarre, as the monitor was working fine with OSX 11.2.2, with display port 1.4.

The Asus is still working fine connected via DP to DP through the caldigit dock, and does not work at all when connected using the USB-C cable (whether daisy-chained through the BenQ, or connected directly to the laptop or connected to the TS3).

I'm going to try the VRM mod - applying thermal pads to the VRM chips and Thunderbolt controllers, as I suspect that the machine is simply getting to hot to run higher resolutions.

Has anyone ever had success going through Apple Support with this?
I generally see the standard "support" - "this is the first we've heard of this! Must be a very rare error. Try restarting, etc." - but I'm curious if anyone has gotten someone who can actually help...

I have the same issue with my BenQ ew3270u.
change the port setting of your benq from a 1.4dp to a 1.2dp, - it'll work fine. From your benq menu, go to system - advanced - display port, and change that to 1.2dp. It'll work without having to unplug - replug - restart anything. I don't think that OS X is happy with 1.4dp yet.

What about MAC USB-C —> MONITOR USB-C ? Is it working ?
I'm using the MAC USB-C (TB3) to the monitor (USB-C TB3).

I don't understand why changing the setting of a DP port on the monitor suddenly has OSX working fine when using USB-C / TB3 and DP. I can only make the assumption that enabling 1.4dp on the monitor leads to the monitor requesting more data from OSX which the OS is not happy about - so changing the setting to 1.2dp on the monitor, it requests less data, and OSX is comfortable with it.

Are you saying that your are using a usb-c to usb-c cable to connect to the BenQ Monitor and altering a setting about dp cables could do the trick?

Yup...- it's been this way since April 6th, and not a single problem. Everything is now working fine at 4k. the machine sleeps and wakes up normal with the resolution intact, - I restart the computer as normal, and the resolution - login screen everything is normal.

There is no such menu after advanced, at least on BenQ EW3270U

🤷🏻‍♂️ - it's an option in the PD3220u and seems to be in the manual for other PDs....- Perhaps they resolve the problem in the upcoming release, 11.3

I can confirm that the latest 11.3 update works with my 4K LG 43b UN-700. I upgraded from 11.0.1 (the latest update that worked with my monitor).

Running it on DP 1.4 via USB-C at full resolution (4k) at 60hz on MBP 16" 2019.

My 2 BenQ 32 inch external monitors (MacBook Pro 16) are working properly for the first time in a while!
It seems that 11.3 version did the trick!

For those with the BenQ SW displays (SW321C in my case), there is a new firmware available from BenQ that was compiled in the beginning of April, and it successfully solves the 30hz issue. You have to contact support and request the firmware. You can then update it with a thumb drive via the service port.

11.3 not working, not all connected monitors wake up, when lid is closed and i try to wake up my MBP16 from sleep. All I have to do is raise the MBP lid, and all screens shine again ..

And all of this on original Apple adapters USB-C HDMI <-> HDMI

😂😆
