If you want to be secure, you need to update to the latest OS as that is the only one with all the patches from the bugs that were discovered recently.

Anyone on lower versions, needs to understand the risks and take precautions (that is another conversation, not suitable for this thread).

hi,
my ipad air 2 (16gb) hasnt been used since mid-2015 so im still on 8.4 (12H143)
I will be travelling soon so will be using it every day for web browsing/youtube videos/emails and listening to music/playing the odd light game.

so i can see the latest update for my ipad is 11.2.5 and after reading the posts on this thread can see 11.2 is a good update, in most cases.

but for someone like me, who is still on 8.4, with my usage, would you stay on 8.4 or upgrade to 11.2.5?
is 8.4 in anyway superior to 11.2.5
- battery drain would be the most important thing for me to avoid

thank you

I have an iPad Air 2 on iOS 11.2.5. It’s been running very well and I’m loving the iPad centric features that come with it. I would point out that 16 GB is just not enough for even light usage and you’ll probably need to take advantage of iCloud/Apple Music/etc.

If you don't care about lastest security update and OK with some apps don't work with iOS 8.. I would suggest you stay with iOS 8. I have iPad Mini 4, which shares similar sepecifation with iPad Air 2. I can see iOS 9 runs much better than iOS 11 on iPad Mini 4. I actually installed the Apple TV developer profile to prevent any update.

Is there anyone using any iPad on this new iOS 11.3 beta? Can you tell if the "battery life" function is available for iPads too?

I have the iPad 9.7 2017 running the iOS 11.3 for testing purposing. It runs fine with iPad 9.7 2017. The battery features is not available for iPads.

As you can see, the battery feature is not available on iPad. it does not tell you your battery health and it does not let you turn off the throttling feature.

I think it is because the battery throttling feature is not presented with iPads. iPads have much larger battery than iPhone. So it can handle peak power draw from CPU better than iPhone.

My Air 2 runs fine on 11.2.6. While I agree more storage is better, I noticed a good boost when I finally moved everything to iCloud a few months ago. I will be upgrading later this year though. :apple:

I would like to hear your thoughts about the iPad air 2 on iOS 11.3
Not Air 2 but 2017 iPad (A9, 2GB RAM). Updated from iOS 10.3.3 to iOS 11.3 and memory management sucks. Getting far more frequent Safari tab and app reloads. Loading apps takes longer. Same for download and install of app updates. I'm also encountering a bug when typing replies on this forum. For some reason, it's preventing me from scrolling up. Haven't really tried other forums or other sites with text entry. This isn't really my iPad. I just play with it on occasion.

Otherwise, still runs fast.

10.3.3 still runs faster on my Air 2 than 11.3 runs on my wife's identical Air 2. But 11.3 has a lot of usability improvements. I don't notice, and she hasn't commented on, any differences in real world use between 11.2.x and 11.3.
