The new doc, drag and drop, the new multitasking features... as I said, my iPad is my notebook replacement and I guess something like drag and drop would be very useful for me.
I find them very useful on my 12.9 iPad Pro, which has become my de facto laptop. I don’t use them much on my Air 2.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone - I updated yesterday in the end, and am very pleased with it so far! I was still quite apprehensive, considering how poorly my previous iPads (2, 3rd generation) ran after a few updates, but it doesn’t seem the case here. The new features are a big step forward!

I keep saying it but for iPads, the Air 2 truly is the first longevity model.

Older models had maybe around the processing power of Pentium III (and low RAM to go with it). Perhaps sufficient for simpler tasks but is it really any wonder that they couldn't handle modern interfaces, apps and websites well?

I waited until iOS 11.2 before I upgraded from 10.3.3. It is running stably, and smoothly.

I did do a restore install of 11.2, this may have helped with my positive experience.

After almost 3 years of owning the Air 2 the battery is at 86% capacity. Thats pretty good.
The only thing thats really pushing me to upgrade is the screen size.

The 10.5 would be nice to have.

I sm NOT a tech guy - but have a lot of products (me and family) - how do I look at my battery capacity - I bought 5 Airs last Christmas (cell models 3 128GB and 2 64GB).

I would like to know, after 1 week, is your iPad Air 2 still fine? Would you advice me to stay on iOS 10 or to try the iOS 11?

I upgraded iOS on my iPad Air 2 128 GB LTE and the performance is terrible. Long delays and overall a really negative experience. Are others seeing this same thing or should I be doing a clean install? I hate to lose all my settings and programs but this is really painfull. On my Gen 1 iPP 12.9 iOS 11 performs great but not so on the Air 2.

Mine took a performance crap after 10. It’s basically become unusable to me at this point with 11.2.1

I have always thought of the iPad Air 2 as the prototype iPad Pro.

Every version of iOS 11 has been slower on my iPad Air 2 than 10.x was. I noticed the animation stutttering most when I'm switching between pages of apps on the home screen. More often than not, this is quite jittery. Battery life is much worse than 10.x. I'm going to try a full restore and see if that makes it any better, but I've tried reducing the animations and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

My son's Air 2 is having two issues:

Not charging and the shifting dock a third of the way up the screen in portrait or halfway off the screen in landscape. Frustrating.

Is this because Apple intentionally slow down old iPad like they do for old iPhone?

No. The battery performance issues that are with 2 or 3 lines of current iPhone devices resulting in throttling is not found on other Apple devices.

11.2 is running smoothly on my Air 2...noticed a bit of lag more on the mini 2...wonder how long the Air 2 is gonna last...

Might want to do a reset. It's possible the odd behavior might be from crud left over from older iOS versions.

Most likely. Kid #2 was just born so haven't had much time to mess with it. And he (my son with the Air 2) is sick with a fever so he hasn't been on it much, anyway.

I was able to completely fix the issues I was having with iOS 11 by doing a backup to iTunes, a wipe/restore of the iPad with iTunes and then restore of the backup. Everything is back to the way it should be. Battery lasts much longer now and no more jittery glitchy home screens.

My iPad Air 2 is still on 9.02 Should I update to newest 11 or stay where I'm at? Some apps won't download until I update. My Air 2 is a about two years old.

You can update to iOS 11. In my opinion, since the latest regular (not the pro) iPad in 2017 has 2 GB of ram same as Air 2, I would guess the Air 2 will last at least through iOS 12, even if it doesn't take advantage of all the features of the Pros.
