Bought it - love it already. Had heard of this app for the iPhone but never really cared to get it - but with the iPad - wow!

By the way, I can confirm it's working just fine, no hiccups even with my huge HD DVR files. However, I'm not a videophile and I'm not good at spotting resolution differences. Does look better to me now. And settings can be tweaked.

Question - I enabled internet streaming (i.e. remote) and there's a "warning" that says "On your website, you state, "Don't forget to set a strong server password to enhance the security and protect your files."

By server password, do they mean my router password? Or something else.

I bought it earlier after testing it out. Works great and love the fact I don't have to convert my MKV's into MP4 for my iPad to play the video.

Never heard of this app until I saw the thread here. Bought it for $2.99 expecting it to be over-hyped and not working.

hahahaha

I did live conversion of The Dark Knight from main media computer to iPad and it worked like a dream. WOW!

Kind of mad that I re-activated my Netflix account now. :)

As I understand it, the decoder must be installed on a running computer, yes? If this means I can only stream/decode MKVs from my wifi based NAS via my MacBook, how will it ever work without stuttering? The file has to be delivered wirelessly to the Macbook, then wirelessly from the MacBook to the iPad. Seems like a tall order.

Someone needs to write an app that can stream from a WDTV Live network share.

I'd never heard of this app either, but I DLd it for my iPhone (waiting on 3g) and that's f'in awesome. Gee if :apple:TV only worked this good...

No need to wonder. There's a free version, give it a try.

I am streaming over wifi from my windows PC that is sharing both local files and files from my linux samba server, with a mapped network share. No stutter from either source regardless of file size. That said my windows box is on the same gig switch as the Linux box, but I'd still be interested in your results.

I have a wdtv live and I'm not sure what you mean. What will this device in the mix gain you?

It's just the password you set in the app so only you can access your movies via the Internet (if you're one of the lucky ones to get that part to work).

I have it working here. In fact I'm sitting in Barnes & Noble right now and accessing my network share at my place streaming videos I have. It's actually really easy to setup. You have to go in and forward a port on your router.

One thing to keep in mind is your connection speed if you're connected to a Starbucks, hotel or friends access point. If they have a slow connection it can take a minute or two to start if you have the video quality at the default (70%). Here in this Barnes & Noble the connection seems to be along the line of a bottom of the barrel dsl speeds so I brought the quality down to 50% and that helped the conversion speed up so it would start faster and it still looked really good.

Sent from my iPad in Barnes & Noble drinking a triple shot Vanilla Latte.

This isn't anything new.

There are several other alternatives that work and have always worked just as good.

is there an app that streams music like this?

A couple - TVersity, telekinesis.

These do everything Air Video does for free.

Once they add music, I will be so on that app. I have been looking for a music streaming app forever and haven't found a single one. :(

I just mentioned two that will work right now. You don't even have to download an app on your iPad. You just log on via Safari.

I'm really surprised that people are THIS surprised... lol

I've evaluated tversity and I prefer to have a standalone app. Nothing wrong with sharing alternatives, but no need to be bitter if people don't take you up on them and are enjoying something else instead.

What? You're mistaken. I was offering alternatives in order to be able to stream music. That is not bitter, buddy.

Love this app. Is there a orb or apple remote iPad app? What the best iPad app to use for a home theater Mac mini? Any suggestions would be great.
Thank u

yes the ipad can play a movie which is in 720p, but it doesnt display 720p

Huh, whats the diff?

And 720p is HD, along with 1080p.

technicality. Just ignore it lol.

It plays 720p fine over here. Looks great. I think it will transcode most any compatible format as long as the host computer has the juice, or just transcode offline.

Highly recommend people buy it. There may be other free options, but these guys seem to work hard to support their product, and now it's a native iPad app.
