Well.....I got my Slickwraps. Typical, is all I can say.

The pieces that cover the case are adequate. They fit ok, and don't interfere with opening/closing the case.

The pieces for the earpieces, are another matter. The fit is awful. On the right piece, the cutouts are nowhere close, although the left piece fits much better. I don't understand that big a difference.

The fit is so bad, that there is a lot of vinyl left at the top, making it both look awful, and difficult to close the lid of the case.

From the picture, you can see how the center holes are perfectly aligned, but there is nothing under the far right opening.

The wrap around the stem is just fine. I have since removed the top, and just left the wrap on the stems.

Oh god that is really soooo bad! Again, wouldn't trust a place that only shows renders of their products installed!

I guess that's why that other company grfx or whatever it was only makes vinyl covers for the stalk aka the stem of the AirPods. That's disappointing because I really would love Jet Black AirPods.

we tried making them cover more of the AirPods while still make it easy to install...unfortunately the two do not go hand in hand. The Grfxp skins are about as good as it's going to get unless you paint them or similar...

I sent in the photos to SlickWraps, and it looks like they're sending another set. <shrug>

I figured out the issue with the right AirPod and will be reaching out to SlickWraps. For some reason the cutout for the right AirPod has the hole for the sensor cut too far into the material rather than being right up close to the edge like it is on the left AirPod. I'm sure somehow the design got messed up that they used to cut the vinyl since the right should just be an exact mirror of the left.

To temporarily fix it I cut some material away around where the sensor is and you can't see it at all once the AirPod is in your ear. If they wanted to the skin could stop just before that sensor rather than having it cutout at all.

Regarding the material on the top - I don't actually believe that it's too much material but what they're going to have to show during the install is that you need to use a hairdryer on high heat for about 3 seconds on each of the top flaps before you smooth it down. The heat makes the vinyl more mold-able and it then stays flush on the AirPods.

My only wish is that they could wrap a little bit more material where the top meets the stalk (shaft, stem - whatever you want to call the long part of the AirPods). In your bottom right photo you can see the gap it creates which makes the white visible in that spot if someone is looking at you front on with your AirPods in. I know its difficult to get the material to wrap around in that spot but since I want black AirPods having white visible in that spot is a bit disappointing.

Overall I would say the SlickWraps skin is just over 90% there. The tweaks I mention with fixing the right cutout and increasing coverage where the earpiece meets the stem would make the SlickWraps for the AirPods perfect in my eyes.

For comparison sake here are three companies that I've found making AirPods skins all with different cutout designs so you may prefer one over the others.

  • I found the company AirpodSkins via Instagram - http://www.getairpodskin.com/ - they seem to have nothing for the case but they do say they are shipping an extra set with each order. They're selling for $8.25 and have by far the cheapest shipping with first class mail at $0.70 for a total of $8.95 (the lowest total price of the 3)
  • Next and the first I saw with them for sale is the Grafixpressions link - https://grfxp.myshopify.com/products/apple-airpod-stalk-overlays - they have an Apple Logo cutout for the case. The design seems to just cover the stem of the Airpods. Their order comes with 2 sets for the Airpods and 2 logo sets for the case. Cost is $6 plus $5 shipping for a total of $11
  • SlickWraps link - https://www.slickwraps.com/devices/cool-stuff/apple/airpods.html - they come with a wrap that covers everything but the corners of the case. They do appear to have the most precise attempted cutouts of the 3 companies based on the pictures with AirPodSkin second and Grafix just covering the stem. Cost is $14.95 but currently 40% off shipping with $3 for ground shipping for a total of $11.97 - Update - now comes with 2 sets for your AirPods so that's the same across the 3 mentioned companies

By Grafixpressions, have had no issues with them. They fit extremely well, takes a little time to get the bottom portion of the actual wrap on the airpod to be straight. (Just above the metal ends) Once I had that down, no issues getting them on. The case sticker is actually in two pieces, the box and the apple logo itself. I decided to just add the apple logo because I didn't like the box at all. So for those wondering, it's actually two pieces so you don't have to cut anything like just the logo out. As far as charging goes, the wrap does not interfere with charging, closing the case or putting them in and taking them out. 11.00 for two pairs of wraps to me was worth it.

This is very discouraging with Slickwraps. Although, I ordered mine on the 15 with two-day shipping and they're still not even shipped. Apparently they're having a "post-holiday wear house meltdown" so who knows. Also, the picture I showed earlier with the Slickwraps options shows it being covered on the corners... what gives?

How does this look in ear? Would love to see a front on picture to see what it looks like to others when they're in your ears.

Hello,

Happy to help. Feel free to DM your order # here.

We have posted numerous photos of our amazing coverage via social. We hope to be adding tons of photos after our recent photo shoot.

I don't see the point in covering the stems only. Not a fan of piano (black and white) look.

I think a lot of people wish their AirPods were black to match the new Jet Black iPhone color or even a different color completely to make them unique. I'm willing to accept that it's tough to wrap with sensors and speaker holes and an odd shape but I really don't want to see white exposed when it's in ear.

I think the first to get the coverage as complete as possible will take this market.

My wife and I both were able to get AirPods and when we leave them on the kitchen counter we get confused as to which one belongs to who. Is there a skin or silicone case available for the AirPods that I cN get so we can differentiate between the two?

Slick wraps have come out with skins. it won't let me insert the link to their website.

The only way to do it is to paint or hydrodip the AirPods... vinyl skins will not cover the entire AirPod without looking like utter garbage. #truth
