AC+ does not protect against everything. Listed under exclusions: "cosmetic damage not affecting the functionality of the Covered Equipment."
So dings or scratches as result of not having a good case would not be covered.
For example, for Apple watches, people have discovered to their chagrin that scratched watch faces are not covered by AC+.
I would argue AC+ protects things that are more relevant than a case can provide. It even include free battery replacement within the coverage period, which we know will be degraded in 2 years. Also if there’s any physics damage just pay $29 and you get a replacement refurbished unit which will be like new. No one knows how the mesh headband will hold up in 2 years either. Seems a better way to spend $60 upfront and not have to even worry about having to use a case in the next 2 years.

AC+ is not offered to all counties though...

FWIW I have experience with Waterfield preorders for new devices. As others have noted they perform their due diligence in reaching out to their consumers to determine what customers are most interested in in order to make the most appealing product. I got the Nintendo Switch case and love it. Way more expensive than most other cases out there but I’m convinced it’s worth it. I imagine most folks who are willing to pay for the APM will be happy with whatever Waterfield puts out and that we’ll see this case in future “Best 3rd-Party APM cases” lists.

Edit - I should add that I’ve also liked that the bags are made in SF; although I’m not sure where the materials are sourced from

I am holding out to see if any of the headphone cases I have fit the Max. By the way, I have LOTS of cases. My wallet ain’t happy.

I filled in the survey for Waterfield‘s Case, but in the end I don’t like the design they came up with. Looks kinda cheap and shiny, and I don’t get why have the extra zippers marring the outside. now I’m hoping for a more elegant option from Pad and Quill.

I ordered some clear silicone bump stops to add where the AirPods Max meet, similar to Nose Pad for Eyeglasses, as I can't live with the clanging and potential scuffs/damage over time

Looking forward to the Waterfield case I ordered the black one, I also have a copule of hard cases from Taobao/China incoming. I even saw they sell silicone covers for the aluminum earcups...

That butterfly magnet idea will soon be pinched and you'll see £/$20 cases with it in Amazon in a month or two.

I hope so, cause here in the UK, that Waterfield one is too expensive. When I eventually get my APM, I hope there's some on Amazon that has that Butterfly magnet feature.

@Fatboy71 Well that Geekria one linked above fulfilled my prophecy, just a little wait for it.

I'm in no rush for a hard case as I will probs never take them away from home. But for a couple of tenners it'd be there just in case.

Thanks for that, I missed that one.
I've bookmarked that Amazon link for future reference ;)

The Geekria is perfect for me, but they want $8 shipping now. I'll wait a few months until Amazon has it in their warehouses and I can get it with prime.

they could have, obviously. They chose not to. There was an article where the guy who built the case was so proud of how it was so minimalist and inspired by origami. This case was a choice, not an accident.
Bad choice, artistic license without any practical real life design and daily use thoughts
