Is the bass overpowering if your not a "bass-head"? Is is a "flabby" bass, which I hate? Just wondering? I'm saving up for a pair.
They are a lot more balanced and tight in the bass department than the Sony XM3's. When I A/B them with the Sony's it makes the Sonys feel way over the top on bass. That's the only comparison I have - I'm starting to really like the clearer sound of the APM's, they have a lot more detail.

To those asking about the bass (quoting isn’t working for me right now), it’s a very tight bass (i.e., strong but focused without blowing out other sounds).

I am used to V-Moda M100 headphones with either a bass heavy headphone amp or the Btunes bluetooth adapter. I also have a pair of Sony XB900N extra bass headphones. I love bass (even if the sound signature on the XB900Ns is terrible). The bass on the APM is nothing like that. It is much more in balance; present and noticeable but not overpowering. I can't wait to get my audio cable so that I can see what they sound like amped.

I find that the sound volume is really low on video content. With my Mac the sound on Netflix is so low...

A reviewer at head-fi measured them... they're rather strong in the sub bass, flat in the mid bass. This is basically reverse of how most consumer headphones are and track the Harman suggested curve rather well. It's an audiophile tuning.

WOW, just put on Incubus' "Blood on the Ground" and the separation between the guitar intro and Brandon Boyd's voice, just wow. Closest thing I've heard to my Sennheiser Hd 600's on a DAC. Will be interesting to see how they change when they truly burn in.

Guessing with the material they don't make your ears hot/sweaty? Like bose, beats etc.
Well, you're still putting earmuff thingies over your ears, so keep the expectations in check. BUT I can tell you that I could only wear my Bose 700 for 20-30 minutes or so before the sweaty/sticky feeling really became bothersome (not unbearable, just annoying), while for the past several days I've easily worn the APM for hours at a time.

I also expected, based on what some of the reviews said, for these to feel like I was wearing an anvil strapped to my head, but this has not been the case... they are quite comfortable.

Correct, the case or sleeve is simple but not having to change the band to fit it in its case is genius (Bose 35 II and XM4 need to slide the band all the way down to fit in the case).

I wish apple’s case was way more protective though.
I think we're getting a bit too loose with the definition of genius. To me that's like saying a pair of glasses with no lenses is genius because you "don't have to worry about prescriptions anymore!".

A lot parts of the aluminium are also exposed in this case, so no protection at all when you put them in a backpack etc.

Mine came this morning and I've got to say I'm not convinced yet. I come from Sony XM4s and rightly or wrongly I have Clear Bass cranked up to 7 so these feel lacking in bass and a little bright for me. Don't go as loud either.

I'm not throwing the towel in just yet, I'll listen through the day with various tracks and see if they loosen up or I get used to their sound.

.......and already they are sounding better!

Right, I can literally swap instantly between the APM and XM4 to quickly compare and I can definitely understand what a lot of people say regarding the 'soundstage' as the APM is definitely better.
The bass the XM4s kick out more due to being adjustable in it's app. But when I swap to it the bass kicks more but is muddier if that makes sense.

On first listen I wasn't impressed but now.....hmmmmm..

I'll be back.

Here's another strike on the "Smart" Case:

The headphones have to be fully retracted to allow the charging cutout to properly align.

Secondly I'm a little disappointed in how the cans clash together metal on metal when you fold them flat, which I guess is one of the reasons they provide the cover (I wont call it a case :)). I fear that over time the two edges will become scratched as this is almost unavoidable when they are flat before you put them in the cover.

I noticed this, too. I’m already overprotective of the anodized aluminum bits, and it seems like a clunky oversight. It’s like on an expensive piece of eyewear you expect the arms to be foldable without the ends bumping into the lenses.

dont need to protect steel headphones

Yeah, I'm kinda on the fence here. These are far better built than their counterparts, tank-like in a way. The thing I'm most worried about is scuffing the earcups, so the case mostly works there and keeps the amount of space they take up in a bag to a minimum.
