How much quicker? This is as bad as the PS5 and Xbox launch where because of how they were done you have to constantly check. Part of this is not Apple's fault but the fault of greedy people ordering more than what they need to sell. There are folks on Craigslist saying they "Accidentally purchased extra ones they did not need" However I do not want these bad enough to pay 900 dollars for the scalpers price.
People were able to lock down launch day deliveries from 3rd parties up until the next day and in-store stock was readily available on launch day as well if pre-orders were missed. Having that in-store availability also gave time to look at some early reviews and make a decision before ordering.
After those were gone, it is still possible to get one same-day by checking in on the Apple store pick up stock throughout the day (I was able to get one for pick up this weekend). Stock has continuously been popping up albeit in small quantities throughout the week.
It's a popular product, stock sold quick for sure, but there were many chances to order.
Additionally Target will be getting more stock Dec. 23 according to their website and order times are shrinking on Apple's website.
Maybe it's fanboy of me to say, but I don't think Apple botched the stock on this launch. It was just... popular. Lots of demand = less supply.
