I missed the initial launch on purpose, wasn't about to fork over $600 without seeing reviews. Been reading them ever since, and I'm convinced! Especially by comparisons with audiophile headphones on head-fi.org by enthusiasts. Good enough sound quality.
But the availability sucks. Reading the forums, people seem to be able to easily swap colors or just order new. I assumed that is perhaps frequent checks of Apple.com. So I did that for the last couple of days, and yes, SW Ohio does have the Space Gray ones for pickup tomorrow. There is however a glitch on the website: cannot get to "Continue to pickup details" page. So I called Apple. Ten minutes later I got a rep who said he could place the order for me - he couldn't. Same glitch in his order process. However he could "courier" them to me within 3 hours today! Extra $5. Haven't got them yet, but still another hour left.
So that could be a tip for the rest of you: Apple may have some in stock in other places too for courier delivery if you call them. I didn't inquire if other colors were available and the rep didn't ask. But just as getting ones a day after launch was possible if you got them engraved, this might be another workaround. Worth a shot!
Edit, didn't get them today. Checked my email and said February delivery! Called Apple again (website still didn't work) and they were able to place a new order (fixing the old one required a transfer to a different rep) but already out for tomorrow pickup but snagged one for Monday pickup at store.
