If the AirPods Max v2 get released this year I imagine they'll get USB-C and H2 chip as their most obvious updates but the H2 chip is going to be two years old by then. Are Apple gonna put the H2 chip in their most premium headphones? It's rumoured the H3 chip is coming in 2025. If thats the case Apple might not release the AirPods Max v2 until 2025 and give them the H3.

It's rumoured that the AirPods Max v2 are gonna be a small, incremental update but I do wonder whether Apple wants a much more comprehensive update since Sonos has entered the headphone market and Apple intends to blow the competition out of the water.

My guess is we will see v2 in September/October with H2 and USB-C.
You could be right. Unless the H3 chip allows lossless I’m not sure what it could bring.

I'm seriously contemplating the Sonos Ace as a replacement. I'd miss the easy switching between devices, but the discomfort from the headband after a few hours of wear is starting to wear thin.

They are $399.00 at Amazon right now but, Apple really needs to stop working on useless VR headset nonsense, and focus on their current devices. 4 years for their most expensive headphones is totally unacceptable. I have the APP 2's, and want to buy a pair of the Max, but waiting for the APM 2's.

Edit: I bought a pair of Beats Studio Pros and they were pretty nice, but not a huge leap from the Solo 4's I have. Just made me want the Max even more, especially after trying a friends pair. Just like Tony the Tiger says.

i bought the AirPods Max when they released with AppleCare. I have gone through 3 pair due to condensation issues. And I don’t wear them when I work out. My last replacement pair just died and I took advantage of the Amazon $399 deal going on right now. See what they have Monday if they fixed the condensation I’ll probably return and buy the new ones.

IF they even announce the next generation.

Indeed, and the rumors are a little odd. Just new colors/USB-C does not make much sense when there is a known design flaw. Why would they want to keep churning these out through apple care claims through another gen?

How will you know if they fixed the condensation issue? Apple never admits things like this so I doubt they would advertise that the new maxes handle condensation better. 🤷🏻‍♂️

A new earcup/shape design so more heat can escape is what I was thinking.

I was waiting for a second gen, but my spouse just bought me the current blue for my birthday and I couldn’t be happier. Sure, the lightning is a bit annoying, but not a big deal once I took them for a spin. And I actually don’t mind the case. I did purchase AppleCare, though.
The design for Gen 2 will be identical so you won’t be missing out a lot.

Good choice on the AppleCare, they’re pricey headphones and it’s a life saver if something happens to it.

Hopefully they fix the bluetooth problem. Mine were great until about 15 days after the warranty expired. Then... no way to connect. No way to fix it. I discovered that I was not alone... many people had this issue. Super annoying.

In my frustration, I bought the latest and best Sony headphone. They are very good, but I really really miss the amazing connectivity between all my apple devices. Not the end of the world, but I believe the flawless connectivity between as many of your Apple devices as you want is underrated. Also, everyone complained about the lack of on / off switch on the Max and the carrying case. I miss both of them. Having an on/off switch is such a hassle compared to the Max. I also believe that the carrying case for the Max is perfectly minimalist and super fast to use.

Device breaks right after warranty ends, I hate it when that happens.

Sorry about the Bluetooth issue. It stinks they won’t let us renew the AppleCare on the AirPods Max.

I mean, I'd like to get rid of all Lightning ports but not at this price. Personally, the current model is plenty good for me, in a way, I'm fine with them riding on the same build for a couple more years.

But that's just me.

Any owners with the originals are fine, I agree. Most likely the Gen 2 is coming next year and the Gen 1.5 will probably be discounted to sit between the Beats and Gen 2.
