Sorry not for me. Without H2 it’s not worth it. I’ll just get another set of APP2 and give my 10 month old ones to the spouse. What a disappointment

So ... What I want to know is, can it do audio over USB-C? If I plug a USB-C cable from the headphones to a laptop, will it deliver audio that way? (Couldn't do it with the lightning version using USB-C to lightning cable. The only wired audio option was using their expensive lightning-to-3.5mm cable.)

My guess is they didn’t enable this with the DAC because it still lists the USB-C as charging and nothing about line in Auido

I saw that, but the old version of the spec sheet (looking in wayback machine) said exactly the same thing about the lightning connector and didn't mention line in either. Though obviously it was supported via their 3.5mm/lightning cable.

Presumably they must be listing a "USB-C to 3.5mm Audio Cable (1.2m)" or else these are not as functional as before?
Exactly... They still have the lightning version on their web site (https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MXK22AM/A/lightning-to-35-mm-audio-cable-12m-white) but I found it via Google, I can't find it via the catalog itself under "audio adapters" or "headphone accessories", so I'm not sure where I should be looking for a USB-C version (if such a thing even exists).

Even so. I'd rather see it support audio over USB-C directly, so I could run audio out to the headphones from two laptops, from my phone, or from my Nintendo Switch — all of which support USB audio output — 3.5mm would actually be more cumbersome (phone doesn't have it, Switch "Genki covert dock" doesn't either).

Probably have to wait until next week when someone can actually have these in their hands and mess with it directly.

Seems like it, which is a shame. I'm not upgrading just for USB-C.

Apple is lucky I just don’t like my orange ones and having USB C is cool. Starlight and a fresh battery will be nice. The price hurts $499 wouldn’t have killed you Apple.

I bought a pare of refurbished ones from Best Buy in August for only $349
They came in the original box and like new! Thank you Apple for being so lazy making me feel even better about my purchase 😂

One can hope they quietly solved the condensation issue and maybe strengthened the headband w/o mentioning these things to keep from highlighting the poor engineering that needed fixing 🙏

Glad I got my brand new pair on sale at $349. I’ll deal with lightning for what I saved. No real features I missed out on.

They still sound amazing. And now I feel happy that the ones I bought years ago are still relevant.
They were amazing at launch, they remain amazing now. I will only upgrade if my current ones die.

Same story for my AirPods Pro, I bought them at launch in 2019 and I still use them today. No real reason to upgrade despite gen 2 having better performance.

What would a new chip do for them though?
It would make a real Max 2 be a harder sell, when they release it. Even if it comes with H3 or H4, people would still compare to the latest. This way the gap is wider.
I honestly don’t mind. I’m happy that products we buy last longer and stay relevant.

I purchased them for $449 just over two years ago and I have been happy with them. No problems, they still work and look like new. Unless they break I doubt that I would replace them even when Apple comes out with an updated version.
hey Bruce, have you in your time of ownership compared the noise canceling of the AirPod Max with a Bose unit? I have the Bose and really would love them to do a better job at NC during aircraft take offs. The Bose work so hard to cancel the noise that they distort causing a whole new set of noise problems.

Give the features which the AirPods Pro gen2 have at the very least.
I suspect Apple envisions fairly different use cases, which is why they didn’t add the H2 chip - no need for adaptive audio because you aren’t going to be changing environments very often; no Conversation Awareness because you’re probably in an environment where you don’t expect to talk to people, etc. Who knows. I wouldn’t mind them adding the chip, but it isn’t a dealbreaker for me. All I really wanted them to add was USB-C.

So there is a chance there is no way to get audio in via USB-C? I thought you could just get their USB-C to headphone jack adapter, but that works the other way around, doesn't it? May have to cancel my order, because I do need wired input.

Yeah I get the feeling that this is something that Apple would do very quietly. I don't think they are keen on highlighting their product errors!
