They switch automatically between iPhone and Apple Watch; you have to select them manually for iPad and Mac.
I'm having problems playing music directly from the Watch to my AirPods. The Watch says to check they are turned on and in range (both of which are true). I'm in a Series 0 Watch running 3.1.1 (14S883).

I can use the 'pods successfully with my iPad, for example.

Any suggestions?

I've tried unpairing and re-pairing my Watch, which meant I then needed to forget and re-paid my AirPods.

Still not working...

I believe you need to first switch the AirPods to your iPhone. After that your Watch can "take" the AirPods from your iPhone. Switching between iPhone and Watch happens pretty much seamlessly.

Hmm, that's interesting. I would try to make sure they're connected to the iPhone and can play from it. Then, open the music app on the watch and switch the source to watch. When you play your playlist, it should automatically go to the AirPods as long as you're still wearing them.

If it's still not working, maybe remove them from the Bluetooth menu, open the AirPods case and hold the button on the back for 15 sec or so until it flashes amber a few times before going back to white. Then, re-connect them to the iPhone and try again.

If you still have problems, you may have to contact Apple.

Good luck, I hope you get them working.

Seems several people already got them, but no one has posted pictures of them and I am curious to see the main reason why I haven't ordered any it because I think they may look silly but maybe I am wrong maybe they will grow on me...pics please

They don't look silly imo. For me, the chunky, 80's-style headphones look less attractive.

These buds are sleek, minimalist, practical & decent quality.

Agreed. It's a different look, to be sure, but they're simply earbuds minus the wires. There's nothing clunky or obtrusive about them. Apple did a great job.

Has anyone else had issues with using AirPods on Mac? I find that sometimes they'll just cut out constantly but it only happens on Mac.

Exactly!! In my opinion it actually looks even more ridiculous with the cables coming out of the ears. It's only
because we are so used to the look...

The cables look like your brain is connected to something whereas the wireless plugs can look like some sort
of jewellery...

Btw: HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!! (sent with Fireworks)

And you know, these guys are not even getting any sound out of it (probably!?)...

I'm not sure what exactly did the trick, but the AirPods are now working correctly with my Watch (phew!). I unpaired then repaired my Watch with my iPhone, and this caused the Watch to forget the AirPods. So I then unpaired and repaired the 'pods with my iPhone. I could then switch smoothly between listening to music from my phone and Watch.

I'm having same thing.

I'm actually having the exact same problem and am sort of relieved to see I am not the only one. (I know that sounds bad, I'm not actually happy people are having issues!)

I have a new Series 2 Apple Watch and I've had issues with it connecting to Bluetooth headphones before I even had AirPods. I initially thought it was my BT headphones, since they were cheap and didn't think much of it. But then the problem was there even with my AirPods so I figured something had to be wrong.

When the AirPods are connected to your iPhone, they should also be connected to your watch at the same time. The quickest way to confirm this is mentioned a few pages back: swipe up on control center on your watch, and tap the battery percent. You will see the battery status of your AirPods at the bottom. If you don't see it, they aren't connected to your watch. When I don't see them, even manually trying to connect to them as an Output like danmart did, gives me the same message. "check they are turned on and in range."

The only fix I have found for this issue is to simply toggle airplane mode on and back off on your watch. It seems to fix the problem until it happens again.

For my issue, I actually took my watch to the Apple Store last week and it was sent out for repair. I got a note saying its on the way back to me and they didn't do anything to it, which is rather frustrating to say the least. (The email says I will get more details with a note included with the watch when it's returned.) Now I don't know what I will do, except for the fix I mentioned above.

Seeing a few more reports of the same issue on different series watches makes me wonder if it's more a software issue and hardware. I had the same problem with my old BT headset when I first got my Series 2 watch, and that was on 3.1.0 I believe.

I tried to re-pair my watch to fix the issue, and reset my AirPods, but the issue has remained. Also in my case, my Bluetooth connection between my phone and watch are fine. It's just BT headphones/AirPods that seem to have the issue connecting/reconnecting and only a quick toggle of Bluetooth off/on seems to fix it.

Curious thing I discovered right before I sent the watch off to be fixed: If I toggle my iPhone's Bluetooth off and on, it also fixes the issue on my Watch and it connects to my AirPods...

So that's where I am. Really anxious to get my watch back, even though I feel I sent it off for nothing.

Hi all, been using the AirPods three days now. Noticed the following:

When I set the equalizer in Spotify to "dance" the music through the AirPods start to "distort". They start to crackle a bit (if this makes sense).

I get the same experience when I choose another preset and set the lower tones (60Hz and 150Hz) above 80%

Is this normal behavior?

Has anyone else had issues with using AirPods on Mac? I find that sometimes they'll just cut out constantly but it only happens on Mac.

I did initially with my iMac - in my case it was caused by a Logitech wireless mouse adapter I had plugged in (I sometimes use a Logitech mouse for playing games). As soon as I unplugged it, the AirPods worked great

The strange thing is that it didn't cause any issues on any other devices even if they were close to it and it still caused interference on the iMac even if I put it on a long cable away from the Mac so it could have been a driver issue rather than a signal interference issue

Just finished forgetting and repairing. Double tapping does not seem to bring up Siri except immediately after initial pairing. Is there a trick to this that I'm missing? Double tap is definitely set to Siri in settings.

Very unreliable for me, too.
Most of the times I need to repeat the double tap till it works.

Make sure you're tapping above the stem/the microphone on the stem; it doesn't seem to work below that.

Question about AirPods use on pre-Sierra Macs:

I have (manually) paired my AirPods on my El Capitan Mac, and the proximity sensor doesn't seem to work - when I take one out of my ears, music keeps playing - I have to manually hit Play/Pause or double tap to get music to pause. Is this the case with everybody? Other devices I've manually paired to (thinking about Apple TV in particular) still Play/Pause when I am taking them out of my ears, and it works on my iPhone, so there isn't a problem with the sensors.

Not sure why the proximity sensor wouldn't work, since all it is sending is a play/pause command which the AirPods can clearly do...just wanted to see if I am the only one experiencing this.

How do you know when the charging case is fully charged? By opening the lid and checking the light?

I just plugged mine into my new MBP for the first time, and they don't appear on the desktop or even in the dropdown portion of the Sound menu bar (which shows battery strength when AirPods are being worn).

Between the lack of visual charging feedback on the new MBPs' power connector and the AirPods' lack of an external charge indicator, Apple seems to be going backwards when it comes to power management. Thanks.

The touch point is at the top of the AirPods.. two solid quick taps (not light not super strong) brings it up for me efficiently . I use to have this problem till I figured this out now it works fine .

I don't think you'll get that feature when connected to vanilla bluetooth. (pre-Sierra or pre-iOS10)

Personally, I flip the lid whilst holding the case near my iPhone. A card pops up showing the level of charge in the case and both 'pods.

Thanks. This seems suboptimal. I can't believe I need to open brand new $2,800 and $160 devices to see if they're fully charged, when external indicators were common a decade (or more) ago.

(I have not read this entire thread, so excuse me if this has already been mentioned.)

I have had my AirPods now for 2 weeks, and I still am loving them. I am back at work today (for the first time since getting them) and am discovering a few minor annoyances when switching back and forth between my MBP and iPhone. First off, which isn't a huge issue and has nothing to do with the AirPods anyway, it is annoying that the AirPods are mixed in with the other airplay devices when you click the volume icon on the mac, so you have to search for them in the list. (I am on a network that has many airplay enable devices, so the list is long.) There also does not seem to be any way to turn airplay off.

More importantly, when switching the AirPods to my phone, after being connected to my Mac, and then switching back to the Mac, it is raising the volume to 100% no matter where it was before the switch. This is slightly irritating as my ears have almost been blown out a few times already just resuming what I was doing on my Mac. Hopefully this is fixed in a software update, because it definitely seems like a bug.
