The whole point of the EarPod design was to not create a seal. The Airpods continue on this philosophy.
I wonder why this choice. Comfort is the only thing I can think of.

Majority of wireless communication happens over 2.4GHz. So if you have wireless routers (WiFi) or other wireless transmitters near by those can cause interference with each other. Also devices like microwave ovens, USB hard drives might send 2.4GHz frequencies causing interference with 2.4GHz devices.I picked up two pairs yesterday, and last night I have noticed terrible connection issues on both pairs. While sitting at a table with the phone laying either to the left or right of me, there will be stuttering and occasional complete dropouts for several seconds. And then they will work fine for a few minutes. This is super frustrating
Safety would be an other major reason. Driving while having your ears plugged isn't the smartest idea in the world and the same goes if you are walking/biking among other people/traffic.I wonder why this choice. Comfort is the only thing I can think of.

Judging from the video, the non seal was important to bring up bass performance (allowing air to move easier than compared to a seal).Safety would be an other major reason. My guess, you're dehydrated and unaware of it.Has anyone ran into issues with slight headaches after using? I've used them twice now, first for an hour and the 2nd time for 30 minutes. After both times of using I've started to feel a pressure on my head and a small lingering headache for hours.
I've never had any issues with the wired EarPods, so I'm a little surprised that these have caused me issues. It feels like the Airpods might be a little bit bigger, which might be causing my issue, but it's hard to tell.
I'm hoping that it's just a coincidence that my head has hurt after using, but I doubt it. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Btw it's not the volume, as I have specifically made sure to listen to them as low as possible.
I may be mistaken because I never go anywhere near max volume, but the Airpods are definitely louder than I can bear, not sure how that compares to the wired versions however. How is the volume on the AirPods for those of you that have them? I just got a set today and they don't seem to be as loud as my Lightning EarPods from the iPhone 7.
I like how they sound at around 85% in my quiet home but that doesn't leave much room to increase the volume when I'm in a loud environment.
Yeah, same. I usually max out at 75% which is why I'm thinking there's a problem with these.I may be mistaken because I never go anywhere near max volume, but the Airpods are definitely louder than I can bear, not sure how that compares to the wired versions however.
Owners, are you finding these a better fit than regular earpods? Meaning they don't just kind of sit in your ear, they more "fit" in your ear and are somewhat secured? I wish they included covers to form a seal.
I don't yet have them, but some have had trouble with the double tap gesture. Do notice that the double tap gesture is not double touch gesture. It's accelerometer based gesture, so you must hit the AirPod hard enough for it register the tap. I guess a better wording would be to call it double hit/punch gesture.Anyone having issues with double tap not working at times? Especially when only wearing one at a time.
I'm sorry to hear that, I knew I was taking a risk getting a first run of these products but I'm going to be on a worksite in Louisiana for the first week of the year and I really didn't want to have to deal with wires while building a house.Yeah, same. I have the same exact problem. My phone is sitting right next to me at work, and the connection drops constantly. Either stuttering or a few seconds of pure silence. The left AirPod actually stopped working for like 5 seconds while the right one was working just fine. It ended up just kicking back in a few seconds later.
I have a second pair of AirPods coming in the mail today. I will test those out to see if they have the same problem.
This is my experience as well. It's not a "holy cow" difference, but there's more "presence" to my music without it just being louder. I can hear the highs better in live concerts I'm listening to and there is a significant amount more "oomph" (please, don't take that as these being overdriven bass monsters like certain Beats) to the punch of the bass. And they DO sound a lot better, anyone who doesn't think so can't distinguish the difference. There is more base, they get louder, a fuller sound. It's not like putting on a pair of Sennheisers or anything, but it's much better than my other BT headsets, better than the earpods and certainly very good for BT.

But he said he currently sleeps with earpods, so it's reasonable that for him, he wouldn't have an issue with the airpods, even though you might.Glad you're happy with them. But I would think trying sleep with these would be uncomfortable or cumbersome. But I haven't received mine yet to contest to this.
Or buy a black silicon case.
some of the small gel caps are very thin, and would probably go over the head part of the unit. one would have to cut some holes for the prox sense and the air vent. Someone will have version for airpods soon enough though. For the outside of the airpod? Then it wouldnt fit in the case and in my ear. The weight and thickness would be different.
