Seems there’s a new solution out there. $249 though... 😂

Switched to Powerbeats Pro a while back ... but glad to see Apple finally moving away from one size fits "all". Hope this doesn't hurt 3M's Nexcare business too much. ;)

I guess it's just me but thinking about putting somebody elses ear buds in my ear gross's me out.
Me too. If you ever really look at the grill, it can get pretty nasty. It's almost like selling used chewing gum. ;)
But hey, if you got a buyer, good on ya!
I use my AirPods with the covers discussed in this thread so when my wife gets them, they will be nice and clean.

I returned my AirPods Pro after a few days because despite coming with three different size tips, there wasn't one quite large enough for me. If they did an XL tip, I'd be happy.

Incidentally, the exact tape originally linked to in this thread is now available from Amazon in the UK here.

Mine fits perfectly with the medium size, but I'll bet once the aftermarket replacement tips are out, there will be great options for you. I'm specifically holding my breath for Comply tips... Apple made a really good product, Comply will only make it better. It will improve the passive noise canceling, which will improve the active noise canceling.

Comply make some tips but they are not good. They don't have the mounting mechanism so they have instead a silicon sleeve to hold them onto the bud. Also they won't fit in the charging case.

Thanks, I meant for the Airpod Pros.

Other earbuds that are easier to clean, I don't mind, but the regular AirPods are particularly gross because they're basically impossible to clean.

Mine are over two years old and you won't find a spot of dirt or earwax on them. They're easy to clean!

I use blu tack, my Airpods 1st gen were about to be thrown in the trash, because the volume was gettinf lower and lower, because of dirt I could not clean no matter how much I tried.

It made them brand new!

Since then, I clean the airpods and the case every day with blu tack and they still are like brand new!

Try it and you'll be thrilled

Yes it will.Case will close fine. I use white. Got them on ebay. 20 pairs for $1. I just use small scissors or nail clippers to cut a tiny section near the sensor. Works great. Otherwise I can't wear these.

I think these will get cruddy quick. Are they washable?

There is no way to clean the inside of the screen on the original Air pod design. I clean mine as well as possible, but I agree with you, there is no way to thoroughly clean it.

There is one way to restore full function. Clean it with a Sonicare toothbrush. I did this and afterwards it was 100% as loud as new. The bristles with the sonic action can clear the grate and break up the wax.

While I agree this will do a better job of cleaning than simply cleaning the outside of the screen with a cloth, there still is no proper way to completely clean behind the screen.

A true test is, would you buy and use someone else's airpods with any preferred cleaning method?

My answer is no, short of disassembling and cleaning the components, I would NEVER put some random persons Airpods in my ear, regardless of how they are cleaned...

I have my original Airpods sitting unused, I haven't even thought of selling them, because I just assumed people wouldn't want them.

I sold my Gen 1 AirPods to a friend. He had no problem with them being used. He might think twice about buying them from a stranger though.

Hi guys

Posting this in case anyone's having the same issue and wants a simple fix.

Love my AirPods. Maybe I just have freakish cavernous ears though, because the left one kept on falling out (and the right one could be precarious at times too).

I tried everything. Foam covers (okay but not super comfortable), silicone covers (too slippery and made it worse). Didn't want to go with Earhooks etc because I still wanted to be able to pop the AirPods back in the case without having to remove anything first.

Then it occurred to me that actually what they needed was enough grip in a couple of places to stop them falling out. What I tried then has worked a treat, and now you'd need a crowbar to pry these things out of my lugs. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but they don't fall out anymore.

What you'll need:

- Nexcare Absolute Waterproof Tape

https://www.nexcare.com/3M/en_US/ne...roof-Tape?N=4326+3294529207+3294631805&rt=rud

- A hole punch.

The Nexcare tape is soft and spongy. Punch out a couple of little dots with the hole punch and experiment with placement on the AirPods. To get them to stick properly just hold them down for a minute or so and the adhesive will warm up. Placement might be different for each ear. I was able to fix my fit with just two dots per AirPod. And they're completely invisible when I'm wearing them.

You'll end up with something that looks like this:

Hope this helps someone out! Enjoy :)
Dude you need cookies?
Coz you sure as hell deserve some.

I dig the tape idea for a "quick" fix. But if anyone is still looking at this in 2021. You've moved on to AirPod Pro's. If you're like me. You haven't upgraded because the original Pods sound better than the pros in my opinion. The pros sound dull to me and have a different sound profile. It's more of a "Downhill" shape profile on the sound. Anyway, I dig the V shape sound profile the original AirPods provide. With just enough bass and just enough treble. Anyway! If you take an old pair of headphones that have rubber tips. Just flip them inside out and cut the thick part off and about half of the center piece. It should leave you with a solid O shape to slip right over your pods. They will lock in nice and tight. Improve sound quality by keeping sound in and not leaking out due to poor fitting. Experiment with different tips. I find the largest tips available work perfectly to slip over the Pod and with just enough *give" they snap onto the plastic and aren't stretched out either.
