I have a question that might belong here. I charged my AirPods Pro 2 case up to 10pm percent last night. I have been using them off and on today, always with ANC turned on. Each time I finish using them, I put them back in the case until the next time I need them. I have been using a stopwatch to time my usage.

I have used them for 3:11:05. Right now the case is at 73% and the AirPods are at 83%. Product info says that I should be able to get 30 hours of listening time off of a fully charged case. I don’t see how this is possible Given that I have only used them for a little more than three hours and the case is already at 73%. Do these seem defective?

I bought them at Target and have up until 2/15 to return them but I have an unopened pair from Verizon that I have to return before 1/14. If the target ones are defective, I’ll want to return them and give the Verizon ones a try.
I don't think anyone get anywhere close to 30 hours. I get something like 10-12 hours out of the case.

Thanks. I was just wondering if these were defective and it sounds from what you are saying that they are behaving as they do for everyone else. That's a relief. ;)

So I guess that I would likely see better battery life if I wore them all the way down and then charged them. I don't listen to anything for six hours in a row though.

I haven't tried to charged the buds from 0-100%, but it would be weird if that would drain less than if you would charge the buds from let's say 70% 😁 And I don't get 6 hours from the earbuds either, more like 3 hours..Which makes sense since the case holds 3 charges, 3x3=9hrs plus 3 hours from the buds so total of around 12 hours.

There is a lot that may influence the amount of time you get out of them as well - how loud you listen to them, ANC on, or off (on will drain them faster), just listening to music or on phone calls. Apple is looking at the basic use - listening to music, no use of ANC, remaining in close proximity to the connected device - to get their numbers. We have mixed use and so we are not going to see the 30 hours that they came up with.

🤣 We have added amazing ANC to these new AirPods Pro 2 that you will get 30 hours use out of, unless you use ANC. Then it will be less.

Oh Apple...

Yes, I know, all companies do this. It's funny though.

Have tried resetting as well. Still no luck- this morning I took out AirPods, used them till 96%, returned to case, and AirPods are now at 100% but case is at 97%. 3% of case used to charge 4% of AirPods 😂😂

Please tell me you are all also experiencing this?

And now case has dropped to 94% doing nothing… insane.

from the apple website;

Testing conducted by Apple in August 2022 using pre-production AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with MagSafe Charging Case and software paired with pre‑production iPhone 14 Pro Max units and software. The playlist consisted of 358 unique audio tracks purchased from the iTunes Store (256-Kbps AAC encoding). Volume was set to 50% and Active Noise Cancellation was enabled.

30 hours with anc at 50% volume. i’m on my second pair now and honestly just stopped checking the % and use them. granted i don’t get any crazy overnight drain but they last around 10-12 hours max before they need charging.

Got a new case under warranty from Apple Store. Case is still losing battery life but a slower rate.

You’d only get 30 hours if you used them, charged them to full and immediately used them again until both the AirPods and case are completely drained. Leaving them in the case will cause them to drain battery and force the case to keep topping them off, which obviously will subtract time from the total listening time. Your AirPods are working as designed. This is the nature of devices with no off buttons.

Ok so market them as earphones with 30h battery life and then in real world usage you get more like 12h...no way. If I would get like 25h I would buy your argument.

So, I may be a bit unique, I have 3 of them. 2 AirPods 3, and 1 AirPods Pro 2. I usually use the APP2 for personal music listening and the 2 AP3 for (one for work and one for exercise).

I had to turn off Find My on all of them for the cases to last super long. I also turn off automatic switching of devices because I don't want my AirPods switching to my phone if I'm in a meeting on my MBP.

Doing this, I can charge my exercise AP3 case once a week easily. My work AP3 - usually have to charge it every 2 days depending on how many calls I do. But say on a vacation week? Both held their charge for the week+.

My APP2 - same thing - turned off automatic switching, turned off Find My - and these I charge the least, like once every 2-3 weeks.

I just checked my APP2, which I haven't used since mid?early? last week, the case is at 85%, and the buds are at 100%.

<shrug>. Maybe I lucked out? Also to note, these cases spend almost 100% of their time on my desk not moving.

Lol prove it then. You can't though because this is literally how every single iteration of AirPods has functioned so far.
Except the AirPods Pro 1 literally didn’t drain in standby like this not use up so much case % for tiny charges. Once again, wrong.

Bought my Airpods Pro 3 about 3 weeks ago. Already after 1 week I started to suspect that there must be a problem with the battery, because I had very little battery left in the case. I only use them when I workout, which is about 1-2 hours per day, 5 days a week. I charge my 3.5 year old Airpods gen 2 about every three weeks. I charged my 3-week-old AirPods Pro 2 for the second time yesterday. When I went to sleep, AirPods and Case were 100%. Today, 13 hours later, the case was 87% without me using them. Such ********! I have one week left to return them and I think I will. I love the better sound and all. But when my 3.5 year old Airpods gen 2 have better batterylife then my new Airpods Pro 2, thats a problem. I think I will just stick with my old Airpods…..

Bought a APP2 2 days ago. Yesterday evening I had 100% charge in it and in the morning I still had 100%. I used them for a couple of hours today, and the case still has 91% (100% APP2) charge left in the case. Looks like my case is not draining. As I still can see the battery level of APP and case, they are connected to my iPhone though I'm not using them.

does anyone know the current firmware?

optimized battery charging was not working for me, so i toggled it on and off. now it works, but the battery drain on the case is insane

APP2 is basically the only device that didn’t got the new update (for headphones) last week.
I like to think that they are trying to fix the battery drain. Or maybe not, we’ll see..

For me, turning off Find My fixed the case drain issue. It sucks because that was a big reason I upgraded to the new version, but the case drained way too quickly with it on.

Without Find My, the case drains at the same rate my original Pros case did.

Yeah, mine are also related to find me. Unpaired, they don't drain at all. So it's not a hardware issue.
I unpaired and repaired twice, and now it suddenly stopped. And I have an applecare case replacement coming next week. Oh well
