It isn’t that I don’t agree. It’s how they’re designed to work. I hate it. There should be an off button so there’s never any drain when in the case, but that’s just not gonna happen, and what made that more clear was when they released the AirPods Max without a power button so that they’d be consistent with all the other AirPods. And just like all the other AirPods, they eventually go to sleep but still drain their own battery, thus necessitating the case to top them off. It’s not an opinion. It’s an objective irrefutable fact.
It’s literally as simple as them behaving far worse and different to APP1, I can make a direct comparison. You cannot explain that difference and haven’t so far.

There is a bug in the APP2 for sure and this can’t be by design unless they claim it’s inferior to APP1 in marketing now?

With Find My on, mine are noticeably worse than my older iterations. By a lot. With Find My off, they’re mildly worse than older AirPods I’ve owned, but I chalked that up to the case broadcasting its battery life now, whereas in the past it only did that via the AirPods when they were in the case.

I got my AirPods Pro 2 on release day and I have suffered from this extreme battery drain issue the whole time. I would charge them up to 100% at night, and by morning the case would be around 60% without any actual use. And now, despite no (recent) firmware update being issued, they have suddenly started to perform perfectly normally as of the past week. I can charge them to 100% at the end of the night, and they still show 100% in the morning. I have no idea what happened. I hope me posting this doesn't jynx anything. haha

Yes, but they started working normally 7 or 8 days ago, it wasn't anything related to 16.2. I had tried everything that everyone had been suggesting on here and none of it ever worked so I just gave up on it and was just waiting for a new firmware update to hopefully fix it, but then suddenly they just started working normally without any sort of software or firmware update or anything at all. And I'm not one of those people that just thinks things have changed when they really haven't. My battery drain was super severe and it has literally just completely disappeared out of nowhere. Super weird.

That's how it was with me. For no apparent reason, the battery drain suddenly stopped.
I had tried all the tips before without success and nothing worked. And yes, I have now also turned on find my.

Just to make sure. Earlier you said:

40% during the night is excessive! What do you consider therefore as normal? If it is a drop of 1% per hour I would not consider that as normal. I still have turned the find-my feature off and I'm just loosing no more then 1 to 2% in 12 hours.

Every single night for the past week they have shown the exact same percent in the morning as they did when I went to bed. No drain at all whatsoever. I usually charge them to 100% before bed so that they're ready to use in the morning, and every day they've still been at 100% when I woke up. And the one night that I went to bed with them at 90%, they were still at 90% in the morning. It has been a real life Christmas miracle. haha Because before this it was a massive inconvenience with how dramatic the battery drain was. Whenever I had long flights I had to leave them on the charger until right when I was about to leave, otherwise half of the battery would be gone before I even got to the airport. It was ridiculous.

Just bought the new pair of Airpods Pro 2's. Battery drain today, on case that is shut. Is absolutely nuts, i think i lost like 20% over the last 5-6 hours or so, without as much as having touched them. I am thinking of returning mine, is it normal? Firmware in use 5B58

Yea unfortunately this appears to still be an issue across all APP Gen 2’s. It’s primarily the biggest issue if you don’t use the buds for that long between case charges. Eg putting the buds back in at 97% will use 3% of the case just to charge back up. But if you use the buds to 50% and then put them back in the case it won’t use anywhere near 50% of the case to charge them.

No known fix yet that I’m aware of.

Could it be related with individual airpods seems to be always charging (lightning shown) ??
It is related to that because everyone’s AirPods are always draining battery, even in the case. But losing half the case in two days is evidence of a problem. While in the case, the AirPods enter a sleep mode and drain much slower than out of the case, and then the case tops them off so that when you do use them they’re at 99 or 100 percent.

I had/have this exact same issue (battery draining). Even if my AirPods (the actual ear pods themselves) are fully charged, they still show as charging when resting in the case. There is a lighting bolt in the battery widget. This drains the actual AirPods case of battery life.

I turned off the Find My feauture in AirPods settings and my battery life is back to normal (case battery doesn’t go down by 25% overnight). Suggest you do the same until there is a fix.

Everyone’s AirPods are constantly draining and charging in the case. That’s normal. What’s not normal is losing 20+ percent over night. Normal is closer to 5-6 percent.

They should not be charging if they are already at 100% and if you turn off Find My, they don’t charge any longer and your battery case lasts much longer.

That’s not accurate. Just like the AirPods Max and every AirPods that came before these (with or without Find My), they’re constantly draining battery, but when in the case they drain less because it’s more of a sleep mode. Back when I first bought AirPods 2 years ago, I was confused about the battery drain when not in use as well, but I was set straight on the Apple forums. The only way to kill that drain is to remove the AirPods from your account and then hold the reset button on the back of the case.

Green lightning = fully charged/not charging but in case
Black lightning = actively charging in case

There is a difference. Green lightning bolt is nothing to cause concern and is expected behaviour… what is not normal is the excessive drain on the APP2’s case when in this state or when the AirPods have to charge up small %’es which uses heaps of the case capacity. (Eg put AirPods at 95% in case and uses 5% of case to charge which definitely should not be normal but is happening)

Hope that makes sense

I guess Im blessed. Purchased yesterday 1-2-23 APP2 and charged up last night from 62% out of the box and it took about 3 1/2 hours, finish at 9pm. It's now 12:30 pm the next day 1-3-23 and my case is still at 100%.
Original FW Version 5A377 Case 3.64.0.
This morning the FW Version 5B58 and the Case is 51.11.1 model number shows A2698

After reset, mine actually stopped acting up. Stay as they should, don't drain really.
Guy at Apple Support, suggested firmware may have not gone in "right", which reset can fix. TIme will tell.

After reset them, battery case is full after 12h without use. It seems that things are going better here.

Has someone had the problem repeated after some time of use after reset?

From my experience: Use them once and it starts again.

I have a question that might belong here. I charged my AirPods Pro 2 case up to 10pm percent last night. I have been using them off and on today, always with ANC turned on. Each time I finish using them, I put them back in the case until the next time I need them. I have been using a stopwatch to time my usage.

I have used them for 3:11:05. Right now the case is at 73% and the AirPods are at 83%. Product info says that I should be able to get 30 hours of listening time off of a fully charged case. I don’t see how this is possible Given that I have only used them for a little more than three hours and the case is already at 73%. Do these seem defective?

I bought them at Target and have up until 2/15 to return them but I have an unopened pair from Verizon that I have to return before 1/14. If the target ones are defective, I’ll want to return them and give the Verizon ones a try.
