How is the sound quality and what other earphones, including wired ones, can you compare them to?

Thank you.

My first impression is the Sony WF-1000XM3 sound way better if you’re looking for more details and a EQ. Bass I am still debating but I’m leaning towards the Sony’s. That being said the ANC , Bluetooth stability and fit I feel Apple has done a better job with. The tips out of the box for both fit quite well but the AirPods you don’t notice they are there and more secure imho. I didn’t run into stability issues much with the Sony’s but if you’re in a real busy area sometimes it could cut out. 98% no issues. If you’re an iPhone user get the AirPods otherwise I would stick with the Sony’s if you have Android or care for more battery life and better sound.

Thanks dude. Yeah, I'll definitely keep both. I like the convenience of AirPods as I have lots of Apple gear and they're much more seamless in terms of switching, for example, between my Apple Watch and iPhone, iMac, etc. I'll probably continue to use the Sony WF-1000XM3 more though, because they have much better bass and slightly better ANC. The AirPods Pro are great too, but I'll use them more for exercising, phone calls (haven't made any calls with them yet, but my v1 and v2 AirPods were great for calls) and 'Hey Siri' is really convenient when walking to the station, etc.

If you only want to carry one device though, I'd probably recommend the Sonys over the AirPods Pro, because of the better ANC and bass. If you don't care too much about LF bass, the AirPods Pro do sound good, though. Hope that helps.

Hmm I find the ANC to be better on these tbh and I have loved the Sony’s WF-1000XM3. I have so many headphones though I might sell the Sony’s because I have the AirPods pro , Sony’s , Powerbeats pro and the Bower and Wilkins PX5

Question to all the early owners, and what I'm a bit afraid of myself: currently I can keep the AirPods in my ears pretty much all day long without any kind of irritation, since they naturally fit really well. What is your experience so far with the silicone tips that create a seal?

According to specs the vents should equalize pressure, but I guess with these tips there will always be more physical pressure on the inside of your ear than with the regular AirPods that just kind of sit/hang in your ear opening.

Good to hear! I'm a big fan of the original ones as well for the same reasons. I personally find them great for movies and most types of music as well, so I guess I'm lucky to not really hear too much of a difference with higher-end earphones and even headphones. The convenience factor of the AirPods is just so great. Can't wait to receive the AirPods Pro later today.

Question about the controls: I currently often fast-forward through a podcast by quickly double-tapping a whole bunch of times. Is the tapping option completely gone? How easy/comfortable is it to quickly double-press/squeeze the stem of the AirPods Pro many times in a row?

As far as comfort goes I find these to be just as good as the AirPods.

Controls is pretty meh I prefer the taps tbh but it’s easy enough with enough use you’ll get used to it

Just got mine, came from OG AirPod
No doubt Sound is a step up from OG, much richer and bass is just about right for me
Most surprising is the fitting, I always have issues with in ear headphones as they fall out easily. With this one all three sizes fit, I just use medium size tip so it sits perfectly and wear comfortably for 2 hours without discomfort.

This AirPod deserves the “Pro” name more than the iPhone 11 Pro

The sound quality is comparable to my first gen AirPods - it's okay, not great - but the originals are terrible outside when there's noise present. I like to listen to music at low volumes (1/4), and that's impossible with the first gen. I'll see tomorrow if that's possible with the APPs, and how transparency handles an office environment.

To continue on the topic of outdoor performance I've now had a chance to use the APPs during a commute. Here are my findings:

1. Outdoors the ANC mode could just as well be called EV mode - it makes passing combustion vehicles sound like electric vehicles. Only higher-frequency tire noise is audible. Notably it does very little to actual EVs or bicycles, as they emit mostly those same frequencies

2. Train humm is filtered out, but I can hear announcements (softly - I'd want to turnon Transparency for announcements I'm not familiar with). The rustling of other passengers' clothing is audible, as are conversations (both softly). Once again I'd want to use Transparency if I wanted to actually listen to someone. Since the tracks are in good condition we don't get that "clack-clack" sound as the wheels pass over track joints, but I imagine they would not be filtered out

3. Walking outside, I can hear the thump of my shoes which is normal for in-ears. The sound conducts through the body so there's nothing ANC can do about it

4. As I was hoping, though, the APPs allow me to listen to music and podcasts at 20% volume while outside! With the first-gen AirPods I would have to set volume above 60% to do that, and that's too loud for my tastes (fighting volume with volume is just dumb for your health)

So far so good. Oh, and I'm using the small tips. I got good seal indication on both small and medium, but the medium felt uncomfortable initially.

Now to see how these work at the office.

The BT range is insane with the pro, i am going 15m further outside than my AP2 from my iP11 pro at home, and they are not dropping out at all, can go all around my house now. Brilliant.

I noticed better BT range at home, too.

thank you! if you have your airpod pros turned on and ANC turned on but no music playing, do you hear any background hiss/white noise? that was one annoying thing with studio 3 beats, i would hear bakground white noise a little when ANC turned on
Not the case. Spookily silent from a White Noise point of view.

Oh this is great news. Mowing the lawn won’t destroy my ears like they do with OG Airpods. :)

Came to use mine this morning after a full night in the case and the left AirPod was dead. Anyone else any ideas?

The sound is AMAZING, and so is the ANC. makes riding the subway 200% more bearable!
My only issue is that walking around gives me a bit of slight nausea outside honestly, because I feel like my balancing senses are kinda knocked out by the ANC. Very strange actually. Might have to turn ANC off for these occasions. But the light squeeze is a nice gesture to do so.

Report from the office:
I‘m using over ear Sony WX1000XM3 against the annoying coworkers, and it definitely shuts them out more effectively than the in ear AirPods. But for outside I definitely Prefer the small ones, just because I‘m not that kinda over ear headphone guy.

Have you updated the firmware? If not, i would definitely do that and see. Also ensure the airpod is seating correctly in the case. Can you try taking both out then just putting the low change one in and see if it starts charging?

Everyone keeps talking about ANC and also sound with music, but I use my old airpods mostly for phone calls and not sure these work as well yet. Need more testing the next couple days to find out. I notice with these the fit is so tight, that when you have phone conversations, it seems like your brain thinks your voice is muted our more shallow. Can't explain it, but not the same as original airpods. I hope more people speak up that use for phone conversations to compare to original airpods.

I couldn't care less about gimmicks such as ANC. I want to hear about the SOUND QUALITY, specifically the bass. Anyone please? Apparently it's as crappy as the "non-pros", right?

Yes it is.

Apple had released in-ear wired headphones in the past. That sounded much better than regular headphones inside phone boxes.

Expected something similar.

Phone conversations: not good – very distracting with NC and even distracting with transpar. on: own voice like… numb.

Yes - that is the word I was looking for. On phone conversations your own voice does sound numb compared to orginal airpods.

Was this mentioned? I didn’t see it glancing through. These are a pain in the neck to get out of the charging case, nothing to grip onto. I keep dropping them when I finally get enough grip to get them out of the case.

Place your index finger behind the AirPods and ‘roll’ them out towards you
