Regarding the difficulty removing the APP from the case, just pull them towards you with a finger and they roll out.

A further listen showed a much larger gap with respect to the PBP and APP. The APP have a much smaller case, ANC, transparency, and no ear hook, but SQ-wise I feel the PBP are vastly superior.

I just received mine and. I am not sure I like them. I tried all three pieces and I got a „good to go on each“. I can also „feel“ them like I know something is in my ears while on my first gen AirPods it’s like I don’t even have anything in my ears. I am not quite sure how deep I am supposed to push them into my ears tbh?

i am slightly disappointed in NC like I heard people claiming it even cancels out airplane noises and I am highly doubting it since I can perfectly hear my bf doing the dishes in the kitchen right now.

Are they supposed to make some subtle static buzzing when I am not playing anything? Little annoying

Hmm.

From what I understand with ANC (experience with 2 headphones: Beats Studio 3's ANC & WF-1000XM3's) ... a constant sound signature and volume is usually easier to cancel out.

Your BF washing dishes:
various sounds of water splashing, washing with sponge/cups/dishes/cutlery/pots/pans/etc all will make various sound signatures and volume even though the rate of flow of water out the nozzle is the same. ANC will have a bit of difficulty here. Same with public transit bus ... engine revs up/down, wheel squeak, tires, doors, ppl chattering ... you get the point. In this latter scenario my Sony's kill the Beats (same bus route, various bus models but many the same).

I'm not expecting the same level of quality ANC vs the Sony XM3's or the higher end over-ear headphones from various brands, but it should be sufficient and better than the Studio 3's.

humming/buzzing noise .... from all reviews and posts in this long thread = NO! I'd go back to Apple and mention this for a swap!

Can anyone else hear a slight, slight noise/"buzz" when ANC is on and no music is playing? I hear this in most other ANC-headphones as well (Ive tried 1000X from Sony and some other cheaper ones). Im also pretty sensitive to these kind of noises, so it might just be me as I ANC usually comes with some kind of "noise" from what I can understand? Or is this faulty?

To me this kind of sounds like it could be caused by the "anti noise" described here?
"Feedforward active noise cancellation (Mic outside the ear cup)

In a feedforward setup, the microphone is placed outside the ear cup. The mic hears the noise before the person does. ANC then processes the noise and creates the anti-noise before sending the resulting signal to the headset speaker."

So I just got mine about a half hour ago. So far, so good....I think....

Something weird is happening to my body though after putting them in. After firing up some Dance Gavin Dance, and the sound was great, I started sweating heavily. My hands also became very sticky. I'm at work so I grabbed a paper off the printer and it was literally stuck to my hand. And after grabbing it with my other hand, it stuck to that one too. A coworker just asked me why I'm sweating so much.

Other than that, these fit really well and the sound is really good. I'm just not sure what's going on with some of the side effects. I'll keep you guys updated.
I've read a few random comments like yours. Its most likely an anxiety response from the noise cancelling. Its like when people walk into a sound /recording studio that is dead silent and start feeling really uncomfortable.

So not to sound rude. It's not the Airpods, its you ;)

Not sure if you read my update, but I realized that my symptoms were the result of being bitten by a radioactive spider.

It’s been an interesting last 72 hours to say the least.

any If you is experimenting a red exclamation mark at the lid opening? Everything works fine and the charge, but kinda weird.
Hope it’s something about the firmware.

PSA: if you were using one of the EQ settings on your iPhone with other headphones you need to turn it OFF. I’ve tested all of them and none of the EQ options sound as good or loud as the default for the APP.
I previously used Late Night EQ as it boosted the sound significantly but it’s the opposite now with the APP.

This depends on the type of music you’re playing. While turning it off makes the music louder, it softens the bass in a lot of the music I listen to.

For me it was quite the opposite. It made the bass louder and stronger.

I’ve been playing around with the tips and tried on the small tips and the ear tip fit test also tells me they’re a good seal.
So I’m gonna stick with the small tips as they feel more comfortable.

I have small ears and initially went with the medium tips, but I could feel them too much in my ears. Not to mention that the left one would fall out occasionally. I switched to the small and they are perfect for me.

I received my APP yesterday.
Setup was easy and I kept the default medium tips on for a proper fit.

So, compared to the AP 1st gen I've been using for a while, these new APP are awesome. They FIT !!!
No more falling out of my head when I move around. That's probably the biggest concern I had.
As for the sound, they do sound better to my non audiophile ears. I would say the sound is fuller and a little wider in range - likely due to a decent seal in the ear. I'm not a loud sound level listener so that's not an issue.

ANC works as far as I can tell. The real test will be at my work - noisy office and too many people. Next week I'll have a proper experience.

I'm pleased overall. Good upgrade !

Thumbs up for the Dance Gavin Dance. Think I'll fire some up here, too ...

After using these for the past few days I can say 100% the Sony’s have better sound quality and better ANC. Sound quality it’s not even a contest but the AirPod pros do sound good as well. The Sony’s have better clarity and a better sound stage imo. Bass is better and more punch. If SQ is what you want along with better ANC get the Sony WF-1000XM3. The ANC isn’t bad on the AirPod pros but it’s a tad worse then the Sony’s which isn’t a bad thing. The AirPod pros have a better Bluetooth connection and are louder. I had this issue where the Sony’s would go lower after a bit at max volume.

That being said I prefer the AirPods because of better connection and the smaller case

there hasbeen updates to firmware on both earbuds. Curious if you’ve updated both?

When you have the seal can any music be heard outside in the outside world? ie.. if I cranked these up in my office, would colleagues be able to hear?

I can get a pretty good seal on the Beats X and they sound amazing, I can crank up the volume and nobody in the office can hear anything, I love them, but if I can get comparable experience without the thick black wire I'd jump all over these.

I did a quick test with 2 colleagues, they heard a tiny bit of sound when the volume hit ~70%, but that volume level is 10-20% (depending on environment) higher than I can handle. Im usually at 35-55% or so, and by that level I cant hear anyone around me and no one can hear the music.

I caved!

I purchased a pair of APP and I'm VERY VERY impressed!

ANC seemingly almost as good as my XM3's! comfort worlds better, volume is about 10-15% lower than the XM3's but it's in NO way that big a deal for me all my tracks are at a VERY great volume! The Mids and Bass (say bass guitar in funk, disco, hip-hop, or Motown or even 80's-90's Rock and Metal are EQUAL to my ears ... again the slightly lower volume).

I've experienced 1 issue:
the right pod for some reason will not 'chime' indicating it's detecting my ear and will not play music Grrrrr. going to test again tonight.

I'm impressed. If I can permanently resolve this ... the XM3's going for sale or as a backup until Apple starts selling the individual APP L/R as replacements. Here in Toronto, Canada cost was about 100 more than the XM3's which I'm not thrilled about but seamless pairing and playback with my S4 it's worth it.

Lately I've been finding that the APP sound better when the ANC is set to "off." Not transparency, not noise-cancellation, but "off." In this state, they sound warmer, the bass is a tad punchier, the treble is wider. Generally the sound quality seems to be best in the off state.

Anyone else finding this?

In my relatively quiet work building, the silicone tips isolate enough noise that I don't really need ANC. So I listen in "off" and it just sounds better. During my commute, noise-cancellation must be on obviously, and there are times for transparency mode too. But if just listening in an otherwise peaceful environment, off seems to be the way to go.

Yes I totally agree. Music is more alive with ANC and Trans off.

I was worried about this. When the XM4 comes out with wireless charging and smaller case, I'd be all over that.

First impressions - the increase in versatility & improvement in every other area make these a replacement for the OG Airpods, unlike what Tim Cook says.

I say with a little bit of sadness that I don’t see a need for the OG Airpods any more.

Yeah, I found that quote a bit baffling. I'm sure if someone happens to own both, they can find certain uses for the originals, but I can't see much actual need there.
