Do Apple really need a driving license or passport to pick up in-store orders or is the confirmation email/text and a bank card enough?
Just a heads up, Tekshop247 claim to have 4 pairs of AirPods left (was 5 but I've taken a punt to see what happens. Apparently my order had been dispatched less than half an hour after placing it so we'll see. That's good going if accurate, there supposed to be here tomorrow.)
They are a bit over the retail price at £182, but I thought what the hell, just over £20 or wait 6 weeks, I'll pay £20 at least they're not like the eBay scalpers.
Here's the link
Thanks for the tip; ordered mine at 3pm yesterday and just recieved them today (at my office in central london), in a very big box but well padded / packed. Listening to them now, all good thus far.
Nice one, thanks again
Turns out they really do want driving license or passport for any in-store pickup. Guy selling didn't know and spoke with his manager who in the end was happy if I could login to my iTunes account in-store to prove I was the account owner.
The manager was saying the rules are the rules and they apply to any item, not just new popular stuff like this and if I'd been in to pick up something more expensive they wouldn't have let me do it. Hey ho, lesson learned.
Covent Garden Apple Store seemed to have plenty today - or at least it was showing in stock for a while.
I ordered for pickup. If you are getting someone to collect for you put their mobile number and email address in the pickup bit when you order and they just go to the store with the QR code on the email - or added it to Wallet. Was simple and they didn't get asked for ID. I'll have a pair later
Well the person who collected mine walked in. showed the email and got them. She didn't even know what she was picking up!The whole email, text and Wallet thing also made me wonder what the risk was if the salesperson checked them correctly.

The "rules are the rules" ... except when the manager decides they don't apply to cheaper items!
Regent Street had most of stock but is probably also the most visited.
Stocks are really dry in Europe, and UK didn't see any refill in the last Europe round.
We just added notifications for Currys, John Lewis and Carphone, consider this experimental, but should be ok. Feedback appreciated (here or twitter).
Should other stores be considered ?
We skipped Argos who seem to make them available without stock, do you confirm that ?
You'll find the new stores at the bottom when you create a notification.
