They sound the same as the ear pods without the wires. Honestly they would be OK in the gym but I would go with something like the jaybird run (or any other with hooks) the bose Soundsport free are great
That is just not right, mate. The amount of times I've said this....

They are noticibly clearer than the Earpods.

& by recommending Buds with hooks, I gather the Airpods aren't fitting securely in your ears? Well mine are (luckily) a perfect fit & I've been using them at gym for almost 2 years & been running with them.... they've never fallen out once.

A good fit changes ones view of many Airpod elements, such as practicality & sound quality....if they're made for your ears, then they're going to be the best accessory you've bought for your iPhone in a long time, maybe ever.

OP, there's more information in the iPhone Accessories forum btw...

How are the airpods in regards to sound (clarity) and gym usage?

Do they hold up well?

I personally find the sound clarity to be adequate, I think they are loud and crisp for a Bluetooth set up. I also find the AirPods are extremely comfortable in my ear, but that might be subjective to everybody else’s experience, as they will fit differently for everyone. They are Light weight, but it also helps that they don’t have the weight of the wire from the regular EarPods.

As for fitness usage, I use mine strictly for that and they work rather well. Just keep in mind, they do not have a water resistance rating.

I highly recommend them, there is a reason they have been extremely popular since their debut in December 2016.

Thank you kind sir for backing me up and saying that the AirPods sound way better than the EarPods! They also fit me perfectly, so obviously that helps a lot. I am so sick of people saying they are essentially just wireless bluetooth EarPods...so not true. If they were that, then why are they probably the best selling Apple made iPhone accessory ever to this point? If you did not get them at launch, you had to wait MONTHS to get a pair. Even now around Christmas, AirPod stock gets pretty low. So they obviously are pretty darn good!

Have a good one!

I took the plunge last year. Haven’t looked back since. Yeah the sound quality might not be as good as some other wireless headphones but the convenience and ease of use trumps it all.

But just to make a point, the sound quality is definitely a bit better than the EarPods. Definitely a bit more bass and better mids and lows.

I use it regularly in the gym and it has never fallen off off my ears.

That’s false. Even after the first software update the AirPods received, it reportedly improved the sound quality with loudness and bass. So the sound is not the same as the regular wired EarPods that would be included with the iPhone. The Bass alone with AirPods versus the EarPods is quite noticeable for a side-by-side comparison.

I have to agree that the sound quality on the AirPods is significantly better than the EarPods. I’ve tried using EarPods in the past, but could never handle their sound quality. I always used headphones with rubber tips for sound isolation and better sound quality, until I used a friends AirPods. Almost every time I put them on and listen to music, I’m amazed by how well they sound for their size and the fact that they’re Bluetooth headphones. The W1 chip is great, and makes it super easy to switch the AirPods between devices pretty quickly. While they aren’t perfect, they’re fantastic for the price in my opinion.

Still sounds like garbage. The bose Soundsport free is still the best sounding true wireless Earbuds flat out.

Now You’re saying they are close enough, but prior you said:

I Question your overall usage with the AirPods with your inconsistency.

Regardless, you’re saying their _garbage_, but I think most consumers are not looking for the best sound quality with the AirPods, they’re looking for the convenience without the wires and the simplicity with the extended battery life.

I like my AirPods but personally find them useless at gym, zero noise isolation. To hear my own music over the gym garbage I had to turn them far too loud.

Been using Gear IconX 2018 at gym for a while now, find them a lot better for this purpose due to noise isolation.

They sound like garbage period. Just like the ear pods. Like garbage. You can find better similar headphones with the same amount of convenience. Sorry I don't count the "annoyance" if syncing Bluetooth the first time worth the apple tax. The jaybird run (Meh) sound way better for $30 dollars more, and there is countless others out there that sound better

People need to stop buying cheap or overpriced horrible sounding headphones. The air pods would be decent at $100

Right, you have posted this multiple times in this thread. But again, I don’t think most consumers are looking for the most superb sound quality, when they are wanting the convenience and simplicity of features. That aside, I would say most will disagree with you that they sound like garbage, seems a bit exaggerative.

You can find better similar headphones with the same amount of convenience.

What is considered better? If you’re referring to sound, we already know that there are other products that might sound better than AirPods, but with all the technology embedded with the AirPods and the battery life, sound isn’t everything.

That said, are ‘Those other products’ priced where the AirPods are? Seems to me that the AirPods are actually priced quite competitively, but there are some fairly unique features to the AirPods like removing one AirPod to pause your music, and then when you re-insert the AirPod, the music plays again.

. More Apple blind love right here. You're spending over $100 dollars for basically overpriced ear pods with no wires. The 5 hour stated battery life is achieved by others ( 5 hours plus 2 charges will last you the whole day with other ones). I'm not spending 150 for convenience. People need to start using better headphones instead of going to the cool factor like they did with beats

You’re extremely dismissive of a product because you don’t agree with the sound quality, that’s your whole argument in this thread. But how many times does it need to be said not everybody cares about the sound quality, given the iPhone and the AirPods are a perfect match.

.The 5 hour stated battery life is achieved by others ( 5 hours plus 2 charges will last you the whole day with other ones).

Actually, with AirPods, 15 minutes of charging is equivalent to three hours of usage. What other product on the market offers that?

So you’re suggesting that you’re not spending $150 for convenience, but people “Need” to start using better headphones? I’m not following you at all with your logic. And then you interject something about a ‘cool factor’? Who cares what they look like, I certainly don’t. Why do the AirPods have to be cool? Can’t they just be simply used of enjoyment the way they were intended for those who do appreciate the technology, ease of use and simplicity?

Cool 15 minutes for 3 hours? You'll probably never run into an issue where you'll need that unless maybe you're in an office using it between the hours of 9 to 5.

Of people want to spend their hard earned cash on headphones over the price of 100 bucks they should invest in good sounding headphones not garbage like this. The airpods have this cool factor like how beats did. Everybody wanted it. If you want crap sound just go keep on using your earpods and save you some money and stop being blind by the Apple logo.

Your argument seems too subjective to generalise like that.

Eg. I love to “waste” my money on AirPods. It’s my money though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You’re missing the point. It’s giving you the efficiency of actually charging the AirPods relatively quickly and having the battery life when you actually _do need it_. You don’t have to be using the AirPods continuously to appreciate 15 minutes that would be equivalent to three hours of usage.

Of people want to spend their hard earned cash on headphones over the price of 100 bucks they should invest in good sounding headphones not garbage like this.

So by ClosingRacers logic, no one should purchase the AirPods at all because they sound like garbage. Which if they sound like garbage, that trumps everything else that the AirPods are a worthless product. Considering the overall popularity and how they have literally been sold out since their debut in December 2016.

If you want crap sound just go keep on using your earpods and save you some money and stop being blind by the Apple logo.

Earpods? We are talking about AirPods. Regardless, I will be perfectly honest with you, your arguments are really poor and not well thought out. You just seem to want to dislike the AirPods for everything they are worth no matter how much somebody likes them, you think your view should be shared by everyone, and that’s not how it works.

Your contribution to this thread's garbage & childish. Why don't you take your attitude elsewhere. We're trying to assist people here.

If you've read my posts, I'm far from an Apple fanboi, but of course you'll ignore that because we're all enjoying one of their products, which for some reason gets on your nerves.

Grow up.

Popularity =/= good. Beats sell a ton and for the most part specially the first Gen stuff was garbage but sold a ton. Just because the airpods sell alot doesn't mean it's good. They sound like crap no matter how you put it.

As I said if you want to listen to Crappy sound save yourself the money and keep the earpods that came with the phone.

Just for the record, your beats comparison to the AirPods is completely irrelevant. Two different completely products that have differences features and options.

I honestly think you don’t know what else to say except they sound bad for the past five posts, even though others and myself have explained to you we don’t care about the best sound quality. I would say your argument is fairly well exhausted and overly redundant.

No its completely the same. People bought beats because they thought it sounded great and fooled into thinking it. Apple making the airpods sound the next best thing since sliced bread. It's not. Overpriced ear pods without the wires.

And that lays the problem. People want to spend money to hear crappy sounding headphones.

I’m convinced of a few things:

1.) You have some other vendetta against the AirPods, it’s not just the sound you keep refuting, you’re using this as leverage likely because your disgruntled about the 3.5 mm Jack being deleted.

Or

2.) Based off your post history and your discussion with AirPods, I’m willing to believe that you actually have no experience with them whatsoever, because you seem uneducated about them and the features. Which leads me to believe you’re just hating on the AirPods just because you can.

And

3.) Almost all your post(s) in this thread are not insightful at all, you simply keep regurgitating the same information about the sound quality, yet other members have told you they don’t care about the sound, but you have no other argument other than that. Which seemingly, makes your points rather frivolous.

Lol. I use my bowers and wilkins px ($399)which is wireless. The air pods sound like Garbage.

And as I just your spending 150 on garbage. You can do that idc. It doesn't change the fact they sound like garbage.

People need to get educated on good quality headphones. You don't need to spend hundreds for them either.

The bose Soundsport free offers you the convenience of no wires and better sound. Do they allow you to easily connect the first time like airpods no but after that who cares. Turn them on and they connect. 5 hours of battery life, stay in your ears better and sound way better.

Seems rather ironic, does it not? You’re saying people need to get educated on good quality headphones, yet; you don’t have any or hardly any knowledge about the AirPods at all. So I think you would be the last person I would accept advice on from good quality headphones or even the AirPods in general.
