Seems rather ironic, does it not? You’re saying people need to get educated on good quality headphones, yet; you don’t have any or hardly any knowledge about the AirPods at all. So I think you would be the last person I would accept advice on from good quality headphones or even the AirPods in general.
I have owned a pair of air pods for 14 days and returned them. They sound like trash and that's all that matters.
I'm just no slave to Apple.

You don't have to be a slave to a company for appreciating a product.

Insulting people for that reason doesn't do you any favours.

Time to ignore this useless account.

You can appreciate whatever you want. I'm just calling them garbage and there is way better options out there.

The fact is plenty of people buy Apple products because of the Apple.

This is a completely asinine statement. That’s not a fact. No one purchases the AirPods or just any Apple product because it’s Apple, it likely serves their needs for convenience, work-related purposes or simply for enjoyment, but there is a purpose. I’m a hundred percent convinced all of your posts in this thread are anti-Apple in general and are mostly worthless in nature to the thread . It has nothing to do with AirPods, you’re strictly just disparaging Apple because it’s your agenda.

And for anyone else interested, you clearly don’t have experience with the AirPods as others indicated certain features about them, you didn’t even know the answers to them as further proof.

Agenda? I have a Macbook Pro 15 inch (2017)and love it. Just no love to particular company

There is plenty of people who buy iPhones because it's Apple and the precieved notion they are the best. If that wasn't true you wouldn't have Android ripping off the notch which wasn't even started by Apple ( the essential phone). You also have countless knock offs in China.

They have completely replaced my use of 3 brands of workout headphones and any wired. Backbeat fits, Bluebirds and some off brand Bluetooth headphones.

Slip them in your ears, no wires, away you go.

Does anybody use Spotify with the AirPods? If yes what settings do you use to get the best sound quality? Do you set Spotify to extreme quality etc????

I have read people complain that music doesnt sound loud enough etc...?

If you’re using Spotify for music, you’re kind of just going with general “acceptable” sound input and AirPods aren’t really rated to be an audiophile accessory. Just for normal use it is fine.

Had a couple of people ask me about them while using them in the wild. I usually tell them to consider two things:
#1 how do the standard earbuds that came with the phone work for you. I kept track of how many times my earbuds came out over a two week period, not counting getting the wire caught on something. That provided me with an idea of how often the AirPods would fall out and it, for me, was very few and far between. I don't run and I don't do much jumping up and down while exercising, which I believe would create more fall outs.
#2 do you want noise isolation or do you want to be able to hear some things around you. I use them a lot while walking in my neighborhood, stores, waiting in offices, etc. so I want to be able to hear other things around me. If you want more noise isolation, AirPods are probably not for you.

Another thought, using them in conjunction with the Watch is a real plus for me. I keep my phone in my pocket so I am not required to dig in out to control the music, volume, etc.

I use them with Spotify every day.

I use extreme sound quality, but initially it didn't sound as good as Apple Music.

Then discovered a setting called 'Normalisation' (enabled by default), which softened the sound (it evens out the volume of a song, so those recorded badly don't go loud/soft suddenly), but I found it just lowered the volume/clarity in many songs, so I disabled it.

Spotify then sounded closer in detail to Apple Music, but I still think Apple Music's codec sounds slightly better.

I think you need to have the correct expectations for the AirPods. I have had a number of other headphones, from Bose, Apple, Jaybirds, JBL, etc. At this point, unless I need noise cancellation or I am seriously sitting down to listen to music, the AirPods are the headphones I use.

Why? Because they are quick, easy, sound pretty good, and allow me to hear things going on around me. If I am shopping, going for a walk, riding my bike, driving my car, or sitting in a restaurant and listening to music, AirPods are perfect. I don't want to be isolated from the world all the time. In these use cases, I am not actively listening to the details in the music anyway. Don't get me wrong, when sitting in your ears correctly, the AirPods sound much better than EarPods (which really aren't as bad as they are made out to be). There are much worse options for sound quality.

Now if I'm in a loud restaurant or airport or on a plane etc, I want to block outside noise so I can hear without turning the sound up too high. Then I use my Bose QC30 active noise cancelling headphones. I also use these when I want excellent sound quality and am actively listening to the details of the music. The QC30 are great for this, but not cheap. Also they are horrible for making calls, and the AirPods are pretty good at that.

AirPods are good for the gym or running/biking outdoors because they stay in my ears and allow me to hear anything coming up behind me.

I tried the Bose Soundsport Free and I agree they sound better than the AirPods. However, they are more expensive, they don't have noise cancelling or blocking either, they don't have auto pause when you remove one (a favorite feature), they are big and bulky, they fit in a bigger and bulkier case, and they don't rapid charge as well as the AirPods. They also suck for phone calls. All in all, the AirPods are the better compromise.

So I have found I need two sets of headphone - one for 80% of my day to day use (AirPods) and one for better listening and noise cancellation (Bose QC30 - but a wired set of in-ear noise blockers would be fine for this if you don't have the $ to spring for QC30's).

Oh really

You know when you download songs offline...does it actually store on your iPhone? Like does it take up your storage space?
[doublepost=1524833052][/doublepost]So basically the Powerbeats 3 wouldn't be a good choice and the AirPods are the way to go? Looks like I'll order the AirPods tonight!

When you download songs, it stores them on your phone.

A benefit of this occurred to me recently - If you've got an overseas trip coming up, then you download the songs prior to the trip, so you don't stream them whilst overseas & incur ridiculous roaming data charges.

Can you only download playlists? You can't download your entire music library?

How are the airpods in regards to sound (clarity) and gym usage?

Do they hold up well?

Sound is pretty subjective. Others’ opinions will differ greatly and every ear is different?

Apple offers two weeks return in most countries. I recommend you make your own experience.

I own the AirPods and find them very convenient to use. Sound is slightly better than the regular EarPods but not much to shout home about. Sounds isolation is pretty non-existent with the open Hang-from-the-ear design that these have, so if you like to really dive into music these are both rather bad choices for that.

For gym use I would likely get a headphone with a more secure fit and sweat resistance.

I want sound isolating earphones for the train

I was close to buying the Powerbeats 3 today because they were on sale but the reviews scared me lol?

What just keeps flooring me is how fast these charge. I'm at work today, listened non-stop (took a few calls) from 6am - 10pm. They had 39% battery life left (had volume really low). Popped them into the case and just like 3-5 mins later they're at 59%. I type to my wife: WOW these things are charging so fast. 2 mins later they're at 70%.

I think the sound of these things are better than the wired headphones but the liberty to be without a cable is worth every penny. Sound isolation is poor (same as wired that come with iPhone) but I prefer that otherwise I wouldn't be able to wear them at work. So I'll probably have to bring my in ear (sealed) Anker bluetooth ones for my work flight tomorrow (doesn't bother me).

2 days after I bought my AirPods - Anker announces these: https://www.theverge.com/circuitbre...e-nc-flare-spirit-liberty-speakers-headphones

Can't imagine ever going back to wired "wireless" bluetooth headsets. I can't STAND the wires on my LG "wireless" HBS760 headset or my Anker SoundBuds (what I'm going to be using on the plane tomorrow).

Edit: By the time I typed this... 96%. LOL

Yea for probably about a minute. Probably less. :)

I was just saying I wipe them down with the 91% isopropyl alcohol after I have sweat on them to kill the germs before putting them in the case. I do not do it every time I use them, but isopropyl alcohol does kill bacteria and isopropyl alcohol is great for wiping down electronics.

*Unless more bacteria is introduced (obviously) the isopropyl alcohol will kill basically all the bacteria that would be on the AirPods, and for more than a minute.

Why do you think we in the medical field (well nurses, I am a M.D.) wipe down your arm with isopropyl alcohol before poking you with a needle for blood work, or use isopropyl alcohol to wipe down an IV injection port before putting medication in your IV?

-Sometimes I prefer using pure liquid 91% isopropyl (you can buy it any pharmacy for super cheap) over the ethyl alcohol based gel hand sanitizers. Now in some hospitals they are using hand sanitizers for visitors and staff (hanging on the walls) that do not use ethyl alcohol, but instead use Alkyl Dimethyl Ethylbenzyl Ammonium Chloride and
Alkyl Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride (ADBAC) which I personally do not like as much as ethyl based hand sanitizers.

Sorry for getting way off topic there, but hey if you do not work in the medical field you learned something new today, haha. ;) Seriously though, sorry.

I do work in the medical field. But I wasn't expecting a dissertation on my comment but thanks.
Being an MD you should then know that there is bacteria everywhere. So when you remove it from one place until it touches another sure its bacteria free. And nowhere am I saying its a bad idea to do it, its just not really necessary very often in the case of electronics and such.
