[Edit] - What's the best process for copying over what folders to ensure I can continue to sync my iPad and iPhone?

I don't want to copy anything over that may cock it all up!

For me the best thing was to turn on Home Sharing. It should enable you to be able to copy everything from within iTunes itself to the different libraries. However, once you sync to your PC then when you plug it into your wife's laptop it won't be sync'd there. Really if you are doing manual sync-ing instead of automagic sync-ing it won't matter, expect with apps, then you are just screwed no matter how you do it.

Sorry, perhaps I should have been clearer.

I copied my profile (C:\Users\Me) over to a folder on my D Drive.

This has the "App Data", "My Music" etc folders in it.

I want to copy them back so that iTunes has all my iPhone and iPad sync data and I can continue syncing as if the format never took place.

Done, now what about my iPhone and iPad backups-what do I need to copy back?

They're stored in:

C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

on Vista/7 installs (obviously "user" = your user name).

Excellent, thank you.

Slightly weird thing-I can't get iTunes to accept/recognise my library.

I added it by clicking File>Add Folder to Library and browsing to/selecting D:\iTunes, but nothing happened after that.

Ok, nearly there! :p

I've set up both our libraries on my iPad and my iPhone (will do SWMBO's later) and can access either library and select "Living Room" as the speakers! :D

However....

It's a long time since I connected anything to/configured my amp (Onkyo 606).

The amp has 2 x Optical ins and I have my Sky HD box in input #2.

So, I plugged my optical lead into the other port (#1) and configured (or so I thought) the CD input to use Optical #1 for it's source.

However, my phone shows that the music is being streamed to the "Living Room" speakers via Airplay, but there's no music coming out.

The lead from the AE to the amp is a standard optical lead with an adaptor on the AE end, as the AE takes a 3.5mm connection.

The adaptor was £5.99 from Maplins: TOSlink to MiniTOSlinkConverter : Connect Digital Audio : Maplin

Is the adaptor wrong (all it does is go over the "square" end of the optical cable, to give it a 3.5mm connection)?

All help/advice gratefully received. ;)

I just use a single 3.5mm to red/white splitter cable as my optical port is being used by my TV. Works fine.

I hadn't thought of that, so maybe I'll get a lead/adaptor.

Although the optical lead "should" work, it may be the lead has a fault?

I changed the CD input to Optical 2, turned the Sky box on and I could hear the adverts on Sky.

Set it back to Optical 1 and silence.

I then left the amp on the CD input and moved the optical cable from the Sky box from Optical 2 to Optical 1 and the adverts were still coming through (which says the input is all good I guess).

I suppose the next step is is try the lead that currently comes out of the Sky box for the AE?

Sorry, I meant to ask-is that a single cable, or are there adaptors involved?
It's a single cable. I actually bought it 2 years ago to output sound to my TV from my PC while the video went through the monitor cable/PC in.

Now I have ATV2 :)

I tried the lead that was in my Sky box and that worked perfectly, so the other lead must be faulty.

Just picked myself up a new lead for £5!

Well and truly sorted now, and I'm so impressed with the AE I'm thinking of getting others for other rooms!!

If you have TV's in the other rooms consider apple tv's. only about £20 more and you get the video cabability and photo streming as well.

We don't have any other TVs in the house and I have a Popcorn Hour A200 in the living room connected to my projector, that will play pretty much any file in any format and with HD audio too if needs be. ;)

The AE's are definitely addictive once you get them working, I'm now trying to think of places that I could put them! :D

[Edit] - Photo streaming you say.....? ;)

Sorry to resurrect this thread....

I just have a simple question! ;)

All is still good with the AE in my living room and SWMBO loves it too!

What I'm wondering is whether I can change it from it's current "Join a wireless network" state to "Extend a wireless network" without effing anything and everything up!? :D

Cheers all.

lol, to do this I think you have to have an airport extreme.

Really-why does it offer the option to extend during setup then?

NB-I'm not doubting you BTW, just asking the question as I'm so new to the world of Apple streaming ;)

Anyway, are you saying that I need an Extreme As well as, or instead of my Airport Express?

Thanks again.

From the apple support site.

Question: Can AirPort Express wirelessly extend ("repeat" or "rebroadcast") the network of a third-party access point?

Answer: No. But it can wirelessly extend the range of a WDS network that is being hosted by an AirPort Extreme Base Station or another AirPort Express.

Thanks Gaz, that's the end of that then!
