You should be able to see your iTunes library from your wifes iTunes.

I think that is "Library" sharing, as opposed to "Home Sharing"

Library Sharing is Edit>Preferences>Sharing and then you can tick/untick "Look for Shared Libraries" and "Share my Library on my local network"

Both of mine are unticked and my Wife's iTunes also has them unticked (although "Look for shared libraries" is ticked on my laptop).

So I guess if you use the Remote app on your Ipad you dont see your library either, only your wifes.

EDT: Actually, if your wife can see your library then Remote should too. Therefore your PC is blocking requests to other itunes/airplay devices.

I can access my library and hers from my iPhone.

One weird thing I've always had with this PC is that I never see my iPhone/iPad in the list of devices in the left window (after you get offered the 4 digit pin).

I've just added her library to my iPhone, the phone gave me a pin which I then entered in her iTunes.

I can see my library using the Remote app and then play a track that comes out of my PC's apeakers.

Her iTunes can see my library.

I've just clicked on it (on her laptop) and it asked me for the password.

[Edit] - But now it's not showing under her "Shared" icon, so I think you're right about my PC/iTunes denying access somehow...

can you confirm this is how you have your wired pc configured

I can:

At this point, on your desktop PC I'd:

  • Move the iTunes library folder to a safe location.
  • Uninstall iTunes.
  • Uninstall Bonjour.
  • Reinstall iTunes.
  • Reinstall Bonjour.
  • Move iTunes folder back to previous location
  • Start iTunes and see if that's fixed it

Bit drastic maybe, but it will probably fix it and we could mess around for weeks trying to sort it otherwise!

Yes, I think this may be a firewall/anti-virus issue. have to go do some work now but will follow on my ipad.
What firewall software is it? In that thread even if the firewall was turned off it was blocking airplay. If he uninstalled the firewall and iTunes connected. Might be worth a try. Other than that my brain is empty.

The Windows firewall is completely off.

I'm thinking that a quick format/rebuild is the answer here.

All my data is on the D partition, so I only need to reload W7, iTunes etc.

Got to be quicker!

I think just unistalling iTunes and a re-install should do it. Less hassles so try that first.

Nearly there azzin.

Doing this now....

Well that made no difference whatsoever and my iTunes looks exactly as it did before.

It's obviously looking at something in My Music>iTunes or maybe Users>Me>App Data>Apple Computers?

I really want to get a "fresh" install of iTunes, but I don't want to cock up my iPhone or iPad backups.

The actual library is on my D Drive (D\iTunes), so I think what I might do is uninstall iTunes again and empty the My Music Folder and rename the Apple folders in "App Data" (add .old to the end of the names), so that it creates new ones and see what happens.

Ok....

I've just fired up iTunes (having done what I described above) and it's now doing a search for music and I can see a "Home Sharing" tab on the left!!

It looks like we may be on to a winner!!

Stay tuned! :D
