Files will be replaced, just backup will be easier than the likes of Vortex. No mod folder requiredView attachment 2407422
Memory serves all goes into DATA, each mod will give you specifics on their respective pages. AI's game engine is not that common so mod managers may not play well.

Q-6
I'm going to try the AI Shooter Mod, the Improved Alien Mod, and the 2K Upscale Textures. The good thing about Vortex Is that I can dump them into Vortex and if I don't desired outcome, can remove them hopefully. 😳

The bad thing was that Vortex (Mod Manager) which is usually excellent, and has an extension to make it compatible with AI, did not add the texture upscale mod.

So I reinstalled the game from scratch and the vanilla data folder was 30 GB. I made a copy of the data folder to easily revert back then I took the 2k upscale mod data folder and dragged it into the game’s route directory. It asked me if I wanted to replace duplicate files and I said yes. After the copy was complete the data folder grown to 33.9 GB, so this seem to work. I did the same thing with the Alien Shooter Mod, and the AI behavior mod.
Yes, the Environment looks better! 😀

If you add in the Enhanced Graphics Settings - Link you can improve the look of game further.

Alien Isolation (October 2014) remains to be the best Alien game produced and one of the best of its genre. Now closing on it's first decade, while still looking great there's always room for improvement thx to the modding community...:)

Install in the order below;
  1. Configure Alien Isolation in launcher of choice to not auto update, clean install of the game is recomended.
  2. Intro Videos Removed - Link
  3. Alien 3 Variant of 20th Century Fox Intro Video - Link
  4. Improved Alien A.I - Link
  5. 2K or 4K Cutscenes & Title Screen - Link (look at the mod's file archive for the Title Screen)
  6. 2k Textures - Link
  7. Enhanced Graphics Settings - Link
  8. My Enhanced Graphics Settings - Attached, Shadow Maps redefined with increased granularity (512-4K) as there are almost no noticeable differences above this value. Increasing shadow map resolution to very high levels (8K,16K) may introduce shadow flickering in some areas. if you opt for this setting file step 7 can be disregarded.
  9. If any audio glitches during cutscenes lock FPS to 105. This is a limitation of the game's engine on modern hardware not the mod.
  10. The game engine has some limitations on newer hardware, so best to lock the FPS to 100 via the Nvidia Control panel or AMD alternative.
The mod results in a greater level of graphic fidelity with expanded graphic's options. The Alien is far more organic in nature, being much closer to the original xenomorph in the 1979 film. All images are taken from the film based DLC's as I have no intention of spoiling the main game for those who have yet to play...

Max graphics setting, full film grain.

Note, as the game's difficulty level is raised the Alien becomes an increasingly dangerous & very significant threat to the player, however the A.I. remains fair throughout. "A perfect organism" with a "structural perfection matched only by its hostility."

All links have specific instructions. This is a very easy mod as is just a matter of unpacking the archive's and copying files in place. As the mod is modular you can opt out of parts that dont interest, although as a package a solid improvement on the retail game. All credits go to the creators who are listed on the respective download sites (Nexus Mods & MODDB).

n.b. Nexus Mods requires an account to download files, however all mods can be downloaded for free with no payment necessary.

Stock A.I. gets tedious as the Alien is too closely tethered to the player and is predictable. As it's ever present it breaks the immersion and the illusion of horror. The Alien can also far outstay it's welcome and have you pinned down for up to 30 minutes at a time which just becomes boring and slows progress and Alien Isolation is a big game at well over 20 hours.

The Improved A.I. corrects and enhances the behaviour. Note the A.I. is also tied to the difficulty level. As you will have weapons try Hard it's a far more interesting play as the Alien will be more inquisitive.

btw there is now a trainer on Nexus that disables all enemies for those that just want to explore.

It's ever present and they expect you to spend the game hiding or on the run I guess as a challenge...🤔

The kind of interesting thing about the Alien Shooter Mod, is I'm not exactly sure how how accessible weapons and ammo is. It can be crafted, but at this point, I'm not sure with what and there is no console (as far as I've seen) to give yourself items or materials to craft stuff.

So hard, makes the alien more aggressive?

What's the difference between a "mod" and a "trainer"? 🤔

I've played Alien Isolation numerous times with and without mods. The Improved A.I. makes the Alien far more realistic IMO and a much better play. While the Alien's hostility is dialled up it's balanced by the increased tether range and the reduced attention span when suspecting the player is close.

On ModDB page the author of Improved A.I explains in greater detail what's changed, in short;
  • Alien is attracted more by player-accessible vents
  • Alien naturally searches in a bigger radius around the player
  • Alien, when thinking a prey is there, will abandon its intuition much quicker if nothing confirms it
  • Alien will search the player actively (out of the vents) a more often
So yes the Alien will be more aggressive & tenacious, but with mods giving weapons that effect the Alien it should be no problem. From the Shooter mods comments most seem to think is fairly easy and you can always change the difficulty if you want :) Currently I'm looking at the opposite end of the spectrum and want to further dial up the Alien's hostility or have more than one in game...

Hard makes the game a challenge and the recommended difficulty for Alien Isolation. With the Improved A.I the Alien plays out very much like the first film (Alien 1979). If the Alien see's, hear's or senses you you have only a fraction of a second to react. Hiding under tables, in lockers will only work for a very short period as it will actively hunt the player if it senses your presence.

The trainer allows you to play & experience the environment safely. In this case all enemies are disabled. Is just another type of mod.

Do these mods work on the Mac version?
If the file structure is the same they should work. They are just texture files, improved videos (cutscenes) and expanded/improved settings. I dont remember anything standing out as Windows specific such as dll files etc.

It's entirely possible as I run Doom 3 natively on an M1 MBP via a Source port with a vastly better graphics package and it plays perfectly. Nor was the graphics package ever envisioned to run on a Mac, let alone Apple Silicon.

Also the same for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, again plays well on the MI :)

Alien Isolation should be easy enough to mod on the Mac. You just need to locate the games DATA folder then copy & paste the mod files in. Be wise to back up the DATA folder first so you can easily revert. The DATA folder will either be in the games bundle or I think more likely Library/Application Support, probably the folder you want will reference the games name or Feral Interactive.

And my past experience looking at both Mac and PC versions of a typical game, there's a high chance the structure will be the same, especially for something like textures. And the behavior mod, that's just a couple files that replace other files.

Same here, just that the application (bundle) and data tend to be in different places on macOS. The graphic setting mod is just an xml file. I dont have Alien Isolation for the Mac, but I'd reckon I could mod it same as the PC.

Ok, why are’nt there door locks? Or a door recognition system that discriminates and works on more than movement or mass? I’m not that far into the Sevastopol, some halls, an access vent, a luggage area, to a central large space where in a control room, I start a generator, and 3 frantic people sprint by, not in a way where I can get their attention. Anyway, everything auto opens. not good if you want to live. This is where I was the first time I quit the game. 🙃

Once doors are opened, well they are open to all. As you progress you will find some doors that can be locked/overridden for short periods of time use them wisely...

Don't these mods contain Windows scripts (.bat) or other executables?

No, just; textures (.pak & .bin), replacement cutscenes, title screen & intro (.usm), graphics settings files (.xml), game engine settings (.bml for A.I.). So all should run on macOS.

If you backup the DATA folder you can easily revert as all mod files are copied into DATA or it's sub directories. This is the games root structure on Windows;
1724331144648.png

On macOS I would expect DATA to be in Library/Application Support in a folder referencing the game or Feral Interactive. If I had the game on the Mac I'd certainly be looking to mod it the same way as the benefits are apparent.

n.b. the mods will overwrite the original files, so backup or be prepared to reinstall the game.

The "coach" mod just contains a .exe file and I don't know what to do with it.
(I downloaded the mod from GitHub, to avoid registering to nexus).

If not wanting to register on Nexus, just create burner email address then DL as needed. As for the "coach" mod no idea as have never looked. I want the game to be harder, not easier so have never looked at coach or trainer mods

What I want is to avoid the Alien at a challenging & high skill level...
ALIEN #2.jpg

If you see this in game your ****ed, more so with improved A.I. no second chances...

The stock A.I. the Alien always on you, but rather dumb. The modified A.I. changes everything as it now acts very similar to the 1979 film. Avoidance is the only way, if the Alien see's or sense's you...

n.b. I play on hard with mods and have completed the game numerous times.

Anything with an unexpected .exe is likely to be a malicious payload. All mods I recommend do not include .exe or .dll files.... If you go off range that's on you.
I ended up registering to the site.
The .exe is not the mod itself, it's the installer. This is expected given what's on github for this mod. It's not the only one that requires Windows for installation.

I installed a couple of others that are supposed to increase ammo and shouldn't require Windows, but it didn't make any difference in the game. They are supposed to give you all weapons as soon as you get dressed, but nothing changed after starting a new game with these mods.

I only have experience of the mods I've listed which do not require an installer. From my time with OSX and now macOS they will work. The rest you have to figure out for yourself, once your more familiar with the game engine it's fairly straight forward...

I made it to the the Nostromo’s transponder on the Sevestopol and found a pistol. I’m not sure that the shooter mod is working. I do see a pistol in the crafting menu and it shows 30 rounds I think, so maybe if you are full, you can’t make more?🤔

The thing is it’s not like you are overflowing with scrap to make bullets, you might prefer other things like flash bombs, smoke bombs, or med kits. And by accounts online, the pistol is worthless against the Alien. Described as good for blowing up stuff with the hope of catching the alien in an explosion, or to call the alien so it will take care of human obstacles for you. Now the shotgun is described as another story.

I was 3‘ away from a guy who gets an alien tale through the chest and then he and it are gone. It was above, and in first person view, I only saw the tail, burst from his chest… this was a cut scene. 😳
