There's nothing magical about $999 - we're well past that psychological threshold. The majority of consumers buy Pro Max ($1,099 or $1,199) or the regular model ($799).
So… from your own data “majority” is 41%. Got it.

What if this is actually a foldable? Would need to be as thin as possible to fit comfortably in the pocket. I feel like most people don’t want a foldable but Apple is missing out on the ones who do and Apple will most likely be the ones that get it right..
Foldables are not ready for Apple prime time yet. Foldables is a niche. Apple is not a niche company, except arguably the Mac Pro (which is more or less kept for nostalgic reasons at this point). Apple is mainstream luxury, not niche. I’m still not convinced foldables will ever reach the point where it’s mainstream enough for Apple. But it’s a very smart move to make a super thin device which can be the bearer of tech that could be used for a foldable if it ever does reach that level of public interest.

I like the idea of this new Air phone. I barely ever use the UW lens so could easily live without it.
Having more choice can only be a good thing , but I would have considered a 17+ if it had 120hz … now I might not be able to if this replaces it. Let’s just hope the battery is ‘good enough’.

Will be an interesting iPhone. Single rear camera is not very enticing though.

Pu expects the slim iPhone 17 model to have a noticeable new design compared to previous iPhone models.
So the slim iPhone 17 will be first new design since the 2019's iPhone 11. (The iPhone 16 is really the iPhone 11sssss.) That is Tim Cook-style innovation.

This will be my next iPhone if it has AOD and 120hz.

The telephoto camera is massively overrated and actually average.

The pro phones are utterly pointless for 95% of buyers and I’ve stupidly always bought one.

I’m also pretty sure it’s going to have a new mechanical Lens to switch between two but hidden in a pixel 9 style camera bar which many leakers have alluded to.

6.6” is perfect for me as 6.9 is too big and 6.3 isn’t big enough.

Of course this new design will trickle down to the rest of the line in 2026 but I won’t be buying the same design for a 7th year until it changes.

Lazy greedy Jeff Williams.

Apple product have always combined 2 pillars in their products: UX/industrial design and technology.
Apple customers sit closer to either of these 2 pillars and might care little about the other.

This iPhone is obviously made with the "design-centric" customers in mind. They are used to over-pay for designer clothes / watches / dine in designed restaurants and so on.

Also, even with one less camera, it might be expensive to manufacture since it might require higher accuracy and miniaturised components.

I really was tempted to get this when the phone had two camera lenses in a similar fashion to the Google Pixel. and the specs where much better than the latest rumours.

The phone now feels like a glorified & pricey SE with plenty of trade offs at a higher cost.

soo many phones next year coming?

SE4
AIR
17
17 pro
17 max

crazy why not just merge the se4 with air ?

Maybe the Future of smart phones is one big slab of a sensor with 60mp and one Lens? Like the Leica q3? Back to digital cropping, but done right.

I still believe the pixel style is what’s coming.

I don’t believe the renders of thin SE being the final design.

This “air” is meant to be a total redesign and will lead into the next few years design language with the Pros in 26.

I'm dying on the foldable hill here. Not saying I want it, but the product as described just doesn't make sense. How do you fit an adequate battery in something this thin unless it was only half the battery for the device?

It almost feels like they're trying some kind of refreshed design, kind of like iPhone X at the time, but also weird that it'll be below the Pro in terms of specs.

Something very odd about it, especially having just a single camera.
I agree. This seems like a very odd decision. Hasn’t Apple been pushing the ability to record videos for the Vision Pro? You can’t do that with just one lens. Why would they release a budget phone with just one lens then? Really strange.

That would be interesting but you’d think if this were a foldable there would be rumors on that already.

It’s almost like cell phones are a mostly mature platform these days. Until the last of the kinks with foldables are ironed out most phones are going to be same variation of “glass and metal slab with screen” in the vein of the 16 et al. Even this is going to be a refinement of that, and people like you will complain

What major new design features do you actually want? Or do you just want change for the sake of change
