Yup, needs to be a more current AFP version now.
Don't ask me which one, but it's the one that introduced integrity checking of the transfer to the network storage device.
(A good change, because what's a broken backup worth? Unfortunately, many NAS and server software manufacturers are reluctant to upgrading their AFP protocol versions they implement )

Do you actually know what Quicksync is?
It's the hardware encoder in Sandy Bridge CPUs for lower quality speed encoding.

What you want is GPU-accelerated (regular hardware accelerated) encoding combined with software encoding in as many threads as your CPU can handle.

Quicksync and movie file encoding are two entirely different worlds!
Different usage scenarios (one is for on-the-fly conversion mainly (at least in OS X) and the other one is for quality conversion of video with FILES as output)

What "I actually want" is for Quicksync to work as Apple claim it should under Mountain Lion (and has worked under Windows for ages!).

Safari Notifications are not working nicely with Gmail... apparently some Google Apps accounts work, but standard Gmail accounts are not triggering Notifications (nor registering with Safari to support it).

Anyone have any luck?

After I make a dictation and I want to edit something that is underlined in blue, nothing will pop-up allowing me to see additional choices.

AirPlay, 1080p, over wifi doesn't work very well. High expectations never fail to yield disappointments... :(

Why the hell do I get a "1" on the icon for "App Store" as well as the Updates icon, when it clearly says there are no updates available?

Is it not accelerating encoding in Quicktime Player? I transcoded a 6:30 video file to 720p and it took about 3 minutes to complete.

Are both the Apple TV and the Mac using wifi? Are you close to the router?

I've fixed this one...

For everyone having issues with something in their new Mountain Lion install - Post them all in here and let's see how many we can find and fix.

To start you all off here's mine:
My Dashboard does not work properly - I can see the previously installed widgets [well most of them] but I can't add any new ones, as when I click the + button "the grid of icons" that is now supposed to be there is just a blank space with a find field at the top!

Tried restarting Dashboard from the Terminal and restarting the Mac - still busted. :(

I started the Mac holding down Command and S (single user mode) and then did the /sbin/fsck/ -fy once it was all done (took a while) I typed exit to get back into the system and it worked. As soon as I clicked the + button in Dashboard, Loading Applications started and now its all OK.

Tip: If you want the Contacts widget to work you'll need to allow it under Security/Privacy in System Preferences. (Would be better if there was some mention of this in the widget!).

Now just need to figure out why Game Center will not work - probably going to be another permissions thing.

My Safari won't keep bookmarks on the Bookmarks bar...everytime i either import them, or move them manually, as soon as i quit the app and relaunch it, they are gone again... :(

iCloud tabs also not working, iPhone is on 5.1.1.

This iMac has been spotlight indexing for 9 hours....almost finished.

I seriously hope thats the single reason the machine is laggy, generally quite slow...

Preview 6.0: NO hand tool?

Hand tool disappeared in Preview 6.0!!! This is extremely frustrating! I used to scroll through multipage PDF documents with my Wacom pen. But now I can't!?
Thinking of get back to Lion...

I can't seem to find the option to disable chat logs with the messages program. I figured out where they're saved to and can manually delete, but I just want them disabled...

Damn, I was looking for this thread since yesterday, lol. I already made a thread for the big issue I was having, losing multitouch gestures. But I wanted to post in here to make it easier for me to spot it if I come across any more issues.

Mountain issues that really bug me

1. Lost the "stretched" displays... 1440x852 stretched was perfect for me...

2. the "notes" sync still asking for me.com address... WTF!! And enabling it behaves differently in different places. Sometimes just need to confirm that the notes will be merged (but doent stay enabled) , and other places doesnt allow to enable unless you have a me.com email.... WTF!

3. powernap not available for macbook pro ? again, WTF!!!

Can't help on #1.. I run in the native display size.

Not experiencing any issues with Notes here. They're syncing perfectly between all my devices via iCloud.

As for #3.. I don't have an SSD drive so its n/a.

#2

isn't iCloud requiring a me.com address?

I created one only to enable icloud.

No, it doesnt. And apple killed me.com, so how can they ask for it ?????

#1 - running in native now as I dont have any other choice... I find it a bit small but i guess i could use to it...

#3 PowerNap has nothing to do with SSD...

Don't know if this is down to Mountain Lion, but it was OK this morning.

When I click on "News" in the toolbar, then one of my news feeds, I get the following message:

"No RSS Reader is Installed."
Safari cannot open feed://news.com.com.....because Safari can't display RSS feeds. You can search the Mac App Store for an RSS app.

Any ideas?

I am having the same problem. I have 2 different readers installed now and it still happens.

Airplay Mirroring Wierdness

I have a early 2011 13" MBP, a 3rd gen AppleTV, and a 720p TV.

Airplay mirroring works, but my screen is shrunk in the upper right corner of the screen. From looking at display charts, I would guess it's displaying a 720p image in the corner of a 1080p window, which is then scaled down to a 720p image by my TV.

The AppleTV works fine in regular use, and airplay from my iPad works correctly, but no matter what I set as the resolution in on my MBP (including "best for airplay") the image is shrunk in the top left corner.

quicklook of canon dslr footage results in the occasional dip in exposure, or slight flickering. doesnt happen when viewed in quicktime player.

I can't get Mail.app to work with my university email. I'm at UT Austin, and we use google for email with a @utexas.edu address. Never was a problem on Lion, as I could just add it as a gmail account and it worked fine.

Attempting to add this account in Mail.app will not work, and gives me an error saying it cannot log in to the mail server (neither incoming nor outgoing). This happens if adding the account from System Prefs or from Mail.app itself.

Any ideas?

i can't seem to add a custom avatar to my login!

I found a work around for this:

Go to Messages > change profile pic and it will let you add and edit a custom one.

Then go to systems pref > accounts and click on the avatar. Click on recent and it will show the one you selected in messages.

After you can change back the one in Messages if you want it to be different from the system one.

I would try adding it as an imap account.

The issue with following those instructions is that the process of adding accounts in Mail.app changed when the Lion version was released, such that you have to enter your name/email address/password in a pop-down drawer window before you can even get to the details pane to change the servers etc. This first step is where it fails, so these instructions aren't very applicable, unfortunately.

That said, if you just continue past the error, it allows you to change the server names and other options and try again, which I've done with various combinations and server names, none of which work.

I'm following the instructions given by UT's IT dept. for Lion, which are simple and worked perfectly for Lion. I really can't figure out what could have changed to break functionality, especially given the very minor update to Mail.app in ML

anyone having mega wifi issues? i cant stay connected for more than 2 mins

1. Delete the "SystemConfiguration" folder located at "/Library/Preferences." Follow the prompt, and put your password in.

2. Empty Trash.

3. Reboot.

If that doesn't work, boot into your installer-- and re-install the OS over itself.
