If Apple increased the base price of each phone by $30 and included the charger, would there still be this same amount of complaining?
This is Macrumors.

Apple can’t do a one-cheek-sneak without a bunch of people complaining. Even when they’re not on the same room.

:p

It's a pathetic, scummy business move by a greedy company that is at PEAK greed under this leadership.

Under this leadership? Got news for you, Apple has always been a greedy company under all leadership. Damn near every company of any size on the planet is greedy. That's what it's all about. It's codified in law that a publicly traded company has a fiduciary duty to its shareholders, that means making the most amount of money it can. That's the way things work. You want non-greedy companies? There are a few small one or two person owner companies that are about more than bangin' out the bucks. The rest? Stop treating them like they are supposed to be some paragon of virtue. Apple cares about ewaste because the people who buy its products care about ewaste more than they care about how much money Apple is raking in. I'd rather step up with all the other consumers who care about ewaste, and give my money to a company that at least pays better lip service than most.

Notice how many threads are discussing that the iPhone12Pro has 128GB storage vs the iPhone11Pro's 64GB storage - without a change to the $999 price. Or that the iPhone11Pro added a third whole camera system the XS didn't have, yet the $999 remained the same... :p
It’s still £999 though. It’s not it’s cheap and we’ve been offered an amazing deal. Apple have just increased the price and people have gotten used to it.

So you’re saying Apple knew full well most people would likely never use this new cable anyway because they already have wireless and USB-A chargers??
I always pull the cable out of the box, because I can always find a use for a cable. But the charger and earpods... well, the only time they see daylight is when I open the box to take out the phone and cable.

Read countless posts on here and Reddit from people defending Apple's potential move of not including the power adapter with the 2020 iPhones because they had plenty of them lying around at home already. And yet not a word from anyone now that we know the new iPhones will ship with a USB-C Lightning cable that is incompatible with all previously included iPhone power adapters (except iPhone 11 Pro and Max).
I have 7 usb c adapter. 3 ipad Pros, 3 mac, 1 switch, 1 anker lol oh and 2 usb c car chargers. So yah. I’m ready.

I usually pull the cable out too but this time around I don’t have anything to use it with so it’ll probably stay in there for the duration of my ownership. I use the EarPods too as I tend to break them after several months so that is a bit of a loss this time around for me. I’d rather have EarPods than a cable I can’t use to be honest.

You are right. The iPhone 12 should not have shipped with the charging cable either. Just the phone in the box and nothing else. Because Apple is just going to get criticised either way.

Make no mistake Apple did this to save costs not to save planet earth. It’s just another way for them to make more money and a lot of Apple fanboys lap it up.

My wires are always breaking so the fact I now need to spend even more money when I’m already spending £1000 is farcical. But idiots that lap up everything Apple does means they won’t go back and start adding the accessories back in the box.

I have two 30w USB-C bricks in my house and my partner has an 18w USB-C brick, but she always uses a Qi charger. I also have a couple of 12w USB-A. Of course a draw full of old 5w paperweights But I don’t count those 🤓

I also just give away EarPods to friends because I’ve not used them since 2001 when I thought white iPod earbuds made it look like I was wearing a hearing aide 😂

...I’m just bitter my FireWire charger is obsolete!

If anyone has EarPods unused I want them lol. Los Angeles area! I need them for zoom calls. Mine are all lightning EarPods. I need 3.5 mm EarPods. Dammit.
I wish I had the too many headphone problem like many of you claims. Jeeez I can’t find any in my house. I have a ton of usb chargers through.

I agree and absolutely warranted as they’ve claimed the whole philosophy is based on environmental reasons. If they had left the whole charger out, they’d look less like hypocrites.

20w power adapter included with HomePod mini...

Let me guess: Apple set up a focus group and determined that owners of HomePod mini don’t own MacBooks nor usb-C chargers.

Well the HomePod mini does not have a battery to my knowledge so it needs to always be plugged in so it requires a dedicated charger. An iPhone doesn’t require to be plugged in at all. It can charge wirelessly and it’s meant to function while not plugged in. Different use cases

After reading countless posts about Apple not including the adapter and headphones in the box.

Firstly the headphones, do many people actually use these anymore? Mine have just sat in the box for the past three iPhones I have owned. Plus in all fairness this is a phone we are talking about not an iPod or MP3 player, at what point was a pair of headphones an essential part of a phone, it was mainly introduced as an accessory to help the sales of a new phone (something which Apple doesn’t really need).

Secondly, the power adapter, from the consumers perspective I can fully understand due to needing USB-C which hasn’t been as heavily adopted as standard USB, there will be a lot of consumers needing a USB-C adapter so I can understand the frustration.

BUT in apples defence they have done quite a lot to ease this frustration for their customers:

-Not increasing the prices of the phones this year.
-Reducing the price of both the power adapter and the EarPods.
-Giving their customers an alternative charging method (MagSafe).
-Ensuring they are becoming more eco friendly.

PLUS we have to remember when the iPhone 13 comes along... guess what... most if not all of us will already have a USB-C power adapter and the vast majority will at that point agree with the move made by Apple.

I have to laugh at people saying they are going to switch to Samsung or other competitor because of this, and guess what, they will start doing the exact same thing

This is just a new normal, and at no point was it going to be a welcomed transition but overall this will be how tech will start arriving and ultimately will have a huge impact on our environment going forward.

Plus let’s all be honest here, if your buying such an expensive phone I very much doubt that £20 for an official adapter or less than £10 for a third party one should really be a deal breaker.

you do have a choice .... nobody forces you to spend £1000 !

Ok good point. I was not familiar with that aspect of the HomePod.

Because most would just use their current cable...

My Mama ain’t had no charger or cords or ear music till I bought her a Phonei SE. She good now. But it was just luck. They ain’t a comin no mo.

So, Apple. How are your new customers going to charge their * phones?

It’s just another way for them to make more money and a lot of Apple fanboys lap it up.

Fanboys = shareholders.

Apple reached $1 trillion in 2018, 41 years after its founding. And then $2 trillion in 2020. Just two years later

Apple is not stupid
Apple is not here for anything other than making a fortune for all who invest
Apple is perhaps the most successful company at doing this

Their company management use to be called evangelist. Their excitement about them being excited about “seeing what we will do” with the new technology is a calculated show.

It doesn’t hurt one bit that what they sell is freaking cool. The team responsible for coming up with this idea will receive great personal rewards.

They even calculate how many will go to Android because of this, and how many will come back. I did twice. (For other things)

Let’s not all be stupid. Many, many people are buying their first smartphone. I know of dozens of elderly people who need a smartphone and they’ve not had one before.

So what do they do? Call up their sons and daughters or grandchildren for tech support because their phone stopped working?

Major tech support issue.

No effing charger! Sorry, grandma. Your window to the world is closed.

Or if they had decent sons and daughters, let alone grandchildren, then they’d already have a mobile phone if they needed it. Why are loads “all of a sudden” buying their first smartphone?!

Besides, they’d likely not buy it online, old people go into the shops, and then they’d be told they need a charger, which they’d just think was normal if they’ve never owned one before. Right?
