As heavily as the 8GB M3 has been discounted, I'm not expecting a price increase. I don't think anyone was buying it at retail price. It's been 1299 lately, the 16GB version of it was 1499 at some retailers not long after it launched, and the 18GB M3 Pro has been available for 1699 (even dipping to 1499 itself recently a few times).

To me, these heavier-than-normal discounts indicate that Apple could easily stick with the 1599 retail entry price for a 16GB M4 model. I'm not sure what that means for the M4 Pro base model, but we'll see soon enough.

16GB of RAM: It was previously rumored that 16GB of RAM could become the minimum for all future Macs, and the alleged packaging indeed suggests that the next 14-inch MacBook Pro would start with 16GB of RAM, unless it is somehow a built-to-order configuration that will be offered on Apple's online store.
Why can it only be a base config or BTO config? Why can’t it be a higher standard 16GB config?

I'm hoping for 24GB on the base Pro chips but I'm not holding my breath for that.
They went from 16GB on the M1/M2Pros to 18GB on the M3 Pros. I could see them keeping it at 18GB or bumping it at an equal chance. It would be great to start at 24GB for the pro models, but that sounds very generous of Apple. They didn’t differentiate between the 14” and the 16” when it came to base RAM on the M3 Pros.

A base M4 with 16gb ram and 3 thunderbolt ports would be extremely tempting.

Also makes me wonder if we would be getting 3 ports on the upcoming Airs which would be HUGE. That would make the airs a viable alternative.

I’m skeptical of this because I don’t think Apple has ever kept the same wallpaper on the box between generations. Apple always has new wallpapers. Otherwise this seems easy to fake if it basically looks exactly the same as the M3 Pro or Max versions (black, more ports).

Also: Russian.

That could be dangerous. A MBA with 3 thunderbolt 4 ports. I’m a skeptic at them starting off with 16GB of RAM this year, but that would be bold.

I have very little knowledge of this, but are margins higher on profit with MBPs or MBAs?

Who's using the box art to determine the MacBook generation?

MacBook Air M2/M3 use the exact same box art with no change at all. The box doesn't even show a wallpaper.

I too share that skepticism, but they could have not had access to the new lid and just used whatever was in stock (this isn’t an official release yet after all, and we shouldn’t be surprised something unofficial doesn’t really match Apple’s approach).

Benchmark test have shown the performance and the chip inside that MBP. We should remain skeptics but also understand the evidence presented

It wouldn't be boxed at all if it wasn't meant for sale. Not sure why there's an obsession over the box art. We've already seen clear evidence of Apple reusing the same box art on several products including MBA.

Nah this Russian bro isn't even showing the About This Mac window nor is he showing benchmarks or other system information.

Red flags everywhere.

EDIT: He shows a benchmark results page but that could easily be faked.

? The base M2 MacBook Pro also came with 8 GB RAM and 2 Thunderbolt ports. Yeah, it was the older design, but it's still a MacBook Pro. Base M3 MacBook Pro buyers got a screen upgrade and more ports.
The video is about the base 14 inch MacBook Pro and that is what I was referring to, not the discontinued 13 inch.

I guess Apple won’t be able to sign any NDA with Russians. They may be actually legal to do the review. What a time 🤣
Tbh...leakers should just leak or give physical leaks to Russians.

Who's gonna help any of the companies from Russia? Not that I support the country to any degree.
