To me, this year was all about carbon neutrality for Apple while still trying to point to progress & make more profit. It was emphasized with the AW9, but no more leather cases for the phones was a huge step towards this effort. I would expect more of the same next year until Apple can sustain carbon neutral status with the phones.

Of course Apple wants to use more plastic for profit lol just like how they don’t come with recharger and call it saving environment.

I have been updating my pro yearly but this time it’s harder than ever to motivate. I never plug in my phone, I never play games. I was looking forward to the new lens but as the max is too big in my opinion this was also a let down. As I see it there’s no difference between my 14 pro and the 15 pro other than some smoother edges for my use case. This must be the smallest step ever in the yearly update for the regular pro model.

Yes just different case metal, for most people use case then we all feel exactly the same as pro 14.

And...the 5x zoom is not a periscope. It is a fixed focal-length 5x folded prism lens. So the years of hype about finally having an optical zoom were false. It seems the 1X-4.9X zoom range will still mostly be crops of the main lens/sensor rather than a pure optical zoom from what should have been a periscope system.

I'll go out on a limb and say they couldn't get a periscope system working for this year and simply stuffed a prism lens in the same space. Next year we'll see a dramatic new invention - the periscope lens!

EDIT: A couple folks have pointed out the S23 Ultra uses a similar cropping system rather than a variable optical zoom. Apologies! Sony uses a true variable focal-length zoom.

Not next year for sure, this is Apple, may be after 3 years.

I bought one as a second device. Sometimes pictures taken with my my 12PM looks better but Xperia photos are more close to the reality. As a point and shoot device, iPhone, Samsung and Pixel does much better job. I had a Pixel 7 pro and that took excellent photos at night. Sony’s camera app has almost same UI as their popular mirrorless but sometimes I felt like taking photos with my Nikon DSLR is easier than Xperia 1V.

Of course Sony photos are much more real since Sony knows almost nothing about AI, Sony just gives you whatever sensor gets.

Yes everything was worse than rumored. This is why we shouldn’t trust the rumors. I’m sure the majority is day traders planting fake rumors to pump AAPL and then sell day before the keynote

With such a disappointment, APPL future is not positive. Who really want to upgrade when they provide almost exact same phone as last year except really rich.

Boring update. The presentation was embarrassing to watch. Hope iphone 16 will be worth buying.
Heck, there are somethings that are a lot worse than boring (butterfly keyboard anyone?). Sometimes it just take a boring square or boring cubed until you get something kinda of interesting 🤪

Yes, that’s why you didn’t get your ultra mega fast A27 chip because they had to pay Tim Cook’s salary 🤦‍♂️🙄
Apple earns about 55% per iPhone sold. Are you such a fanboy that you believe that is in any way required for them to survive? Increase the base RAM in the iPhones, or including features of the Pro models into the lower models, such as camera upgrades, battery sizes, or display technologies, would just by Apples sheer scale, result in a price increase close to zero.

You could just saying you make an excuse to yourself to justify an upgrade, because you could just replace the battery at this point. Overheating at every turn? I'm wondering what you really do with your phone for triggering this so often. My 13 PM never overheating since I have it (2 years).

My battery is still at 90% and even with iOS 17 the battery is still very strong and my phone easily last for a day or 2. It's fine if you want to upgrade, but no way the 13 PM is an obsolete phone. In fact, I don't find much difference between this and the new phones.

Both my wife's and my 13 Pros seem to overheat quite easily. It's ESPECIALLY bad when it's hot out. My #1 biggest issue with the 13 Pro is that the damn screen dims like crazy when it overheats. My wife and I will both be sitting outside by our pool in the Summer, in the shade, under an umbrella, when it's 85-90 degrees outside and we can barely see the screen of our phones because they overheat and Apple dims the screen drastically to help cool down the phone. This happens on both of our phones while we're simply browsing the web or using social media on a strong WiFi connection in the shade. It's completely unacceptable IMHO.

I'm really hoping this doesn't happen with the 15 Pros.

Funny thing is that we never had this issue with 8 Plus.
My wife would say that her iphone 8+ is better than my Xiaomi, until we went outside and finished a movie on a phone - Iphone was significantly brighter than budget android phones. That was when I was sold on the screen brightness outdoors.

There likely no more major upgrades for a while, everything is incremental at this point

Yeah, phones aren't much different than laptops or TVs in this way. Each year will include a small spec bump and some minor improvements, but most people don't upgrade their laptop or TV every year and I can't imagine most people needing/wanting to upgrade their phone each year anymore now that the technology has matured a lot.

The days of major phone upgrades each year are gone. I used to upgrade annually (most years) back when phone technology was changing quickly, but now, every 2 years is more than sufficient for me.

The same can be said backwards. Iphone 5 and 6 were long used in our family until 8 plus and 12PM. Back in the day there was also not so much to change for - it could be said that any iphone can get your years of good use.

Yeah, back in the early days, there were bigger changes every 1-2 years however. 2G to 3G. 3G to 4G/LTE. Small screens with huge bezels and low resolution to much better screens with much higher resolution. There were a lot of improvements in like a 5-6 year time span.

Now, it just seems like every year is basically "slightly better camera", "slightly faster processor" and a bunch of other crap that 99% of iPhone users would never notice or care about except for extreme power users.

Like, is a faster processor or 5% better camera going to be noticeable to 99% of the world who only looks at pictures on a small screen and who primarily uses their phone for social media, texting/messaging and emailing? Of course not.

The typical iPhone user would notice no practical difference between the 13 Pro, 14 Pro and 15 Pro. The other 1-2% of super users? Sure.

we're not even at a point where things get better every year. just look at the battery life, the 14 was worse than the 13, and the 15 may be even worse than the 14..

Honestly don't see how that would be possible.
Slightly bigger battery, 3nm CPU, more efficient qualcomm 5G modem, more efficient display driver (supposedly), ...

Hopefully the reviews will show us what is what.

But then again, i'm coming from a Mini 13 and never have battery problems. It will probably feel like i have endless battery lol

One more GPU core, higher frequency, more Ram, more transistors… everything needs power.

- Better battery life : Nope same as last year
- 6x Zoom! - Nope 5x
- Huge chip improvements with A17: Nope, no numbers given on efficiency, CPU and GPU seem only up to 10% better
- 256gb base storag: Nope
- new telephoto and ultrawide lens: Nope
- Faster wireless charging: Nope
Etc

You are off on some of these

There are bigger batteries (just not as big as expected)
A17 latest benchmarks are seeing about 21% increase and we don’t know how much better efficiency will help here

256GB is base storage on the pro max which was correct

Where are you getting new ultra wide from? That’s always been expected next year

Thinner bezels were correct

Like Every year more were correct than false

Big disappointment. Will be holding on to my (now paid off) 13 Max.
At least the 13 series still had a physical SIM in the US market. A big reason I've not upgraded from my 12 Pro yet. Of course, other than battery my 12 Pro is still in good shape.

For me, everything about 15 pro is positive as expected. Apple has been doing a great job on iPhone. 👍👍👍 This makes sense because iPhone is the major revenue and profit contributor for Apple success so they have to do it properly.
For some, the 15 pro might not be satisfactory. I hope future release might satisfy for them. ;)
