New imac runs hot...Also has...

My new imac alum one year old now, has always run hot... but the last 6 mo.
a new grey area is occuring in the upper left cornner, where it is always the
hottest... it started out a grey glitch about the size of a quarter, & now its the
size of a mighty mouse. i have apple care and im still under warrenty but im
concerned that it cannot be fixed and the whole unit will have to be replaced,
and that means alot of data transfers yada yada not to mention headaches...
anyone else hear of a ghostly grey area on their screen ? kinda looks like a
photo negative, Oh yea, ....its hard to see it when its on but its there...
when it goes to sleep mode its hard to miss the grey thing in the cornner
my hunch is that this has been caused by the imac overheating!!
Thanks, talkindrum

That sounds like a new one. I'd take it back.

Is the heat problem on all iMac units or those made before or after a certain date? Is it on one size or all?

I don't know about any problem, but my toasty, but stable, iMac was bought on the day they came out on 7th August 2007.

models and stuff

From what I have seen after doing some internet searching is that heat has been an inherent attribute to the Mac for some time now. I've seen a few threads, even one here somewhere, about the G5s and notebooks running "like toasters".

With the 24" screen, which is what I have, one must consider that it is a Hi Def screen and will produce a good amount of heat on its own. I have a friend that has a 20" screen alu iMac and he said his runs an the hot side but again no probs.
