Hide the stupid address bar down the bottom when scrolling and I’d give the new safari a 10/10, only thing I don’t like about it, we’d get even more screen real estate with it gone.

You don’t understand why people don’t like having to go through more steps than before to do something? Generally the intent for introducing change is to make something more convenient, not less, and if others don’t care about the new features being added, then it’s easy to see why they wouldn’t like having to do more steps for old features.
Let me rephrase myself:

I don’t really see why it’s such a big deal. Like, I get it if you have limited mobility because an extra tap might actually be a pretty involved process, but for able-bodied people, some individuals have a lot of emotion about an extra tap.

It’s an inconvenience, sure, but it’s such a minor one that I’ve already stopped thinking about it.

I don't understand why people defend every 'Apple feature' like a sheep. A reload button is not mini led which has several pros and cons over oled so one may find it better or worse for his/her use case. It is just a reload button. Removing it will make experience bad for some. Adding it won't make any difference for the one who are okay with its absence so what is the problem in adding it?

Just because you adapt to change doesn’t mean it’s better. You’re basically saying nobody should be allowed to criticize something because they’ll eventually get used to it.
not saying any of that, am just pointing out that whining about something won't change it back. and it's worth noting that most ios users will adapt, and get on with their lives.

if you don't like a change, or a feature, or whatever... you can say so. and i can make my point too. we're all entitled to our opinions.

I don’t really think anyone was saying “No! Adding a refresh button is bad!”

What I’m trying to understand is why it’s such a big deal to people to the point that they call people who don’t have an issue with it “sheep”. 🤔

Pull to refresh what? If you are at the bottom of this forum, you need to scroll way up to refresh instead of clicking a simple refresh button…
You can just tap the status bar to go all the way up.

But I rarely ever refresh a page when I'm already at the bottom. I refresh it because it doesn't load. So it's a non-issue for me.

Seems to be a change for the hell of changing something. We have literally been living with the search / address bar for 20+ years always being on top, no matter which browser or operation system you use and now I am supposed to tell my mother how to use the internet again? I wish it was optional. Also the stupid thing keeps messing with cookie banners

what I don't understand is why is there a button for panels when the panels are literally one swipe away? I would prefer something like pic related

I can see changing things in an attempt to improve functionality and use.
Why add new functions and features that add to my work flow? This does not help Reachability at all and adds steps to basic functions. If anything I want "simpler", not more complex.

would love an option to put the address bar to the top.

Who’s whining? I haven’t seen a single person in this thread whining about the changes. Just people voicing their opinions.

He’s not saying people who don’t mind the change are sheep. He’s saying the people declaring that it’s the best option for everyone and nobody should be complaining about the change because Apple decided this is the way things should be are sheep.

I wish it was optional.
I bet the new Safari is designed in SwiftUI, so it would be extremely easy for Apple to make it optional.
It would probably take them like 15 min of work or something to tie it all together. (it's basically just a VStack, a Spacer and an if condition).

i hear you; if i skip the whiny threads, i also would not see a 'single person in this thread whining". really, tho... opinions are great, as long as people understand the difference between 'opinion' and 'fact'.

I really don’t understand why you’re being like this. I only mentioned this thread because I’m not scouting the forum looking at everyone’s complaints. Our conversation was limited to this thread so I based it off of that, but if you want to quote or link to people in other threads whining to back up your point, be my guest. I’d really like to see that. I’d like to know if what you consider whining is really just critiquing or people actually pitching a fit.

Also odd that you mention opinions vs. fact when you’re the one acting like everyone that doesn’t like the Safari changes is wrong and shouldn’t be upset because it’s not a big deal to you.

I will be honest, it is going to take some getting used to. I won't go as far as saying I hate it, or it is terrible, but realistically, any major change like this will require some form of "user retraining" until it becomes familiar and natural.

One could say the same thing when the iphone X first launched. A lot of people missed the home button because they were used to a button. Personally, I thought the swipe was 100 times better than a button but that was just my opinion.

you put me on the defensive; i defended myself. other than that, am not claiming anything more that what i'd originally said; am not referencing 'everyone', just... following the thread, and posting my thoughts; that how this works, yes? so let's move on. i mean, i will if you will... 👍

I’m always tapping the top of my screen, but there is nothing there.

Also, if you want to refresh from the bottom of a page, you need to:
1. Scroll up to the top; or
2. Open the web settings

which is not very good in term of accessibility.
No, you’re not. It’s unintuitive and the design is confusing and sloppy.

Sadly, this is the first time i’ve ever said this about an iPad, or really any iOS device: If I handed it to my “not elderly but getting up there” mother and asked her to look something up in Safari, she might struggle with it, or get frustrated.

I hope the big drop in September/October isn’t like this. It almost feels…Windowsy. Lol.

But the iPhone X made sense: they got rid of the home button, so they needed a new way to navigate.

(Just to point out, I’m talking below about Safari on iPad OS 15, not regular iOS.)

What is the benefit of this Safari redesign? What problems does it solve? I mean, out of all the things I hear people bitch about with iOS devices, it’s never Safari.

I have a feeling that’s about to change in a few months.

Is the only way to get to bookmarks menu with one touch at start page?

If i select the web address at very bottom the bookmarks menu shows on top left which is kind of a pain when using one hand.

The menu using the ellipsis button doesn’t have an option to view bookmarks either. I can add bookmarks and favorites and many other things but not view the bookmarks menu to select. I went to edit menu section but nothing there.

Is this by design or a bug or just my install? I will look for a shortcut to add to menu (ellipsis) if possible, but i prefer it like in 14.

Another problem. Now just scrolling up too much is make the page refresh even if I don’t want. I sometimes refresh pages like 5 times in a row because I don’t know what I’m doing!

PS: plz people report feedback in the feedback app so Apple can see them.
