Hate it!.. really want the more functional URL bar back. It takes way too many clicks to get to just REFRESH or to close a tab. getting to all open tabs again, often too many clicks. I know the pinch on screen works, but it doesn’t work on a screen where there is pinch to zoom in and zoom out setup. Switching between regular tab/windows and private tab/windows used to be just a simple click. Not, it’s several steps through one of two different paths. Nobody ASKED for any of this, I’d be fine just giving it back.

My god, what an absolute HOT MESS.. windows and tabs closing just randomly. I’m going to have to go through the headache of doing the full downgrade and restore.. this just ain’t going to work for the next couple months. I may NEVER upgrade to iOS 15 if this is what we can expect, usability and reliability.

Uh oh! Sounds like the dissappearing tabs bug from iOS 11 & 12 might be back? My safari tabs would intermittently but fairly frequently just dissappear with no way to get them back. Same thing would happen with my reading list - the entire list would disappear each time I tried to add website. It was totally unusable. It wasn’t until an iPadOS 13 release that this bug was partially fixed and tabs now only disappear if I merge all windows instead of just randomly. Obviously I don’t use this feature unless I wish to close all tabs!!

Instead of breaking functionality, I wish they would focus on fixing these ongoing bugs!

I agree - it is a complete mess. What Apple designer felt like they actually made Safari better with this beta. Apple is easy fix, just go back to the old safari as nothing is improved in the new one.

It’s not a COMPLETE mess. The new Start Page is great IMO. Having all of that content syncing across multiple devices and in the same spots has been great. I‘m also a fan of the new Tab Groups. If they just put the Address Bar back to the top, or at least provided some kind of accessibility option to have it at the top or bottom, I think most people would be happy. They took away direct access to certain items, sure. But they did that in Mail back in iOS 13. Remember when there was an option for Delete All in the Trash and Junk Mail folders? Those were good times…

Browser choice isn’t a big deal to me because for work I use multiple browsers on multiple platforms. Browsers change all the time and I always adapt so I had very little opinion on the new Safari. But after a few weeks I have to say… I hate it.

I’m going to continue trying to adapt but overall these changes seem so unintuitive, my workflow is much slower and I just dont get what Apple is going for.

What Apple seems to be going for is “Accessibility“, in having the URL Bar at the bottom. But for what little that gains, it makes it seem like a lesser browser. Like someone clearly made a mistake in putting it there and then they forgot to put it back. There’s far too many web sites out there I’ve been to since using Safari on iOS 15 that behave very wonky. Many times on various sites I’ve managed t inadvertently press a link or something.. And again, the bar at the top is still there. You can still press it to quickly get to the top of any page.

This last point is this thing for me for Sure. Workflow using Safari for many many things is just slower and it’s not just lack of conditioning to new elements. Why would they move or hide elements, making for more taps/touches or select drags, etc. If you want to make pull down activate refresh, great, but dont’ take it away from the tab or URL bar.

Yeah, this Safari bug in iOS 15 is REALLY bad. It seems to be linked to just closing ONE tab, but only sometimes. I can’t tell if its from a popup blocker or ad blocker site, but closing a single tab with the shockingly hard to see X, often will crash the whole window and it’s a crapshoot if that window survives at all and often it’s just gone. Not even available to be reloaded or spawned via the “show all windows” trick, and then “reload closed windows” which normally should appear if one closed the window purposely. But no, its just GONE. I’m back to making bookmarks of all the open tabs I’m try to track. Great.

For those with larger iPhones... not having to reach up at the very top to access the URL is a huge gain for them (I know Reachability feature helps with that).

But it's one of those gains that if you don't have a certain device you won't see the benefit of it. My significant other has the 12PM... hasn't upgraded to iOS 15 beta, but she's excited to experience the new Safari. I have no horse in the race... don't have an iPhone, I do believe it will take a long period to adjust to the change.

i love the fact they added refresh. But where are the other Safari options now?

edit: nevermind found out it’s all in the share button.

Let's see how long it's gonna take Apple designers to realize that the direction of those Google Search suggestion arrows no longer makes sense.

Beta 4 and counting...

Now that I have my iPad Pro, using Safari is so much better than it was on the Mini.

Loving the redesign overall still. Changing the menu button to the share button was probably not the right move and I bet they’ll put it back, but otherwise new Safari is the perfect browser for me. If they ever end up changing it to the old, I hope they still let us have an option for the bottom bar. I was sad when I was on Android and they removed the option.

I just wanna permanently hide the address bar unless I tap on it. Is that too much to ask? It gets in the way so much that I'd rather just have it constantly minimized until I need it.

You can actually do this. In the overflow menu there’s an option “Hide Toolbar” that keeps it permanently docked. It isn’t a permanent option though so you have to enable it every time you change pages. It is really nice if you’re on an infinite scroll website, though.

Hopefully a future beta will turn that option into a toggle!

Another request to go back to old Safari. To get to my bookmarks is such a nuisance. Bottom of the page and then top of the page. Cripes. What a mess.

Long press on the bottom address bar, show bookmarks. I find it intuitive and I’m liking it. (Only installed ios15 on my iPhone yesterday so still getting used to its differences) So far so good 😎

I’m confused… what do you mean by this? Or you referring to the compact or separate option?

At this point, under the compact option of Safari… they have a Share Button underneath the Menu Button AND have a standalone Share Button that’s outside the Menu Button. And it’s annoying to look at. I enjoy the new redesign, but they are making changes trying to appease the critics.

The idea behind the compact option is to make it compact, yet… Apple adds a new button. The ”Add a New Tab” Button is perfectly placed, but there’s no need for the standalone Share Button (imo).

And the idea behind the Feedback app is to get feedback from people like us. So, they’re making changes, yes, to appease the critics. More changes are needed.

The menu is still the same menu, but they changed the icon to the share icon. I’ve been showing my coworkers and friends not on iOS 15 and asking them to find certain functions and their opinions on the button, and they all agree the older method is a more clear option. They all said they wouldn’t think to access features like Reader mode or Bookmarks from the Share button.
