The content blocker stuff works the same as before. In iOS 14, you tap the ‘AA’ button and then ‘Turn off Content Blockers’. As far as I know, holding the reload button to reload without content blockers was never a thing in iOS 14, and I doubt it changed in iOS 14.7. (Just tried it on my iOS 14.6 devices and nothing happens when I hold the reload button.)

Also, the ‘Turn off Content Blockers’ option only applies to that page. It’ll turn back on if you reload normally, tap a link, or go to another site. This is exactly the same in iOS 14 as well.

Nothing changed here either. You swipe left to close tabs in iOS 14 too.
No, you swipe up on the tabs to dismiss them pre-iOS 15. Just as you would close out apps.

Scrolling down thru all of the options and selecting “Turn off content blockers” on iOS 15 turns off content blockers all together. Not just for that site and session.

Tapping and holding the reload icon in the Address Bar pre-iOS 15 gives you the option to reload the page without content blockers, and it stays that way just for that page/session. This option does not exist on iOS 15. Nearly everything you replied to me with isn’t true.

I love the new Safari but there is one and one thing I hate is the bar at the bottom I liked it on top where it was it was perfect I could just click on it and type a website now I click on tons of other things by accident. 🤬
It wouldn’t be the new safari with the address bar staying at the top. 😁

once you click on the Scroll down and select website settings, you can turn off content blockers for the site that you’re currently on.

You’re welcome 😃😜

Yeah great. And then I have to go back and adjust settings again when I’m done with that session. If you’re just wanting content blockers disabled for that session only, and not permanently for a site, that option does not exist anymore.

It’s either turn off content blockers all together by selecting “Turn off content Blockers”, and leave them off permanently, or going thru manually and configuring settings for that session and then returning to those same settings when you want them back on again.

I’m referring to the option when you tap & hold the reload button on iOS 14.7 and below and select “Reload Without Content Blockers”, and the page you’re on then only loads that specific page without blockers and only for that session. When you come back to the page later, Content Blockers are enabled again.

It’s still early days in the beta life when it comes to iOS 15, maybe Tim Apple will bring it back in a upcoming beta.

Use the feedback app to tell them you want that feature added back.

I’ve used the Feedback app. Trust me LoL 🤣

But again, This is what iOS 14.7 (and earlier) looks like:

Two taps. Boom, done. And doing so here only turns off Content Blockers for that current session. It’s temporary. If you want Content Blockers off all together, yes, you go thru Website Settings and turn them off there.

This is what you have to do in iOS 15, and it’s NOT temporary like iOS 14.7 (and below). It stays enabled as if you’re configuring Website Settings.

Again, I get why people would want the Address Bar at the bottom. I don’t like it, many others don’t either, but whatever. It’s an aggressive change in the name of “Accessibility“, and should just be made an Accessibility Option:
“Location of Address Bar: Bottom(Turned Off) / Top(Turned On)”
THAT I can get used to, and only because my only other choice would be to use another browser…

But hiding SO many useful and often used options?? Apple makes one major change (Address Bar Location) in the name of “Accessibility“ and then makes everything else harder to get to?? … In the name of ”Accessibility“? Tapping an icon once to get to the needed option is great! Tapping and scrolling down to tic that option and then having to go back and undo changes when done… Oh yeah, that SCREAMS “Accessibility“…

I’m on 14.6 on both my iPhone and iPad. On both devices you have to swipe left on the tabs to dismiss/close them.

Tap and holding the reload button does nothing apart from give an option to copy the website address. To turn off content blockers on a site you have to click the aA button and then choose the option “turn off content blockers” (which you show in a later post).

I agree. There’s plenty of screen real estate, why bury options and make things more taps and scrolling to get to - in other words, less user friendly? (But it seems to be the current thinking / “in thing” - Microsoft are just as bad with Windows 11…the File Explorer ribbon has been replaced with a selection of icons and then other options are hidden behind the “…” button despite there being plenty of room to put them on the rest of that bar 🤷🏻‍♂️.)

Well, I don't know what to say. I just tried these again on both of my devices, and both versions behave exactly the same as I described. In iOS 14, turning off the content blockers is temporary, and tabs are closed by swiping left...just like you're seeing in iOS 15. I've made a video on my iPad to make sure we're talking about the same thing. I can do the same on my iPhone if you'd like.

Since it can be hard to see where I tap, things to note are:
- I tap and hold the reload button, notice the reload button dims temporarily but nothing happens other than showing me 'Copy'. It doesn't even reload.
- I tap the 'AA' button to turn the content blockers off, notice the ad loads.
- I tap the the 'AA' button again to show that the option is to turn the content blockers back on (I don't tap anything here).
- I tap the reload button, notice the ad doesn't load.
- I tap the 'AA' button to show that the option is to turn the content blockers off again.
- I swipe up to attempt to close my tabs (it scrolls instead); swiping left closes them.

Yes, this is how iOS 14.x / iPadOS 14.x and lower behave. And yes, swiping to the left on iPad to close out tabs is normal. ... Annnnnnd I stand corrected with the Tab behavior. I had to go and grab my wife's iPhone and check. Yes you do still swipe to the left to close tabs, but the rolodex style on iOS 14 as opposed to the new grid style on iOS 15 threw me off. I think because, IMO, it just doesn't seem very fluid, felt wrong.

The Content Blocker issue still remains, though. I checked on my wife's iPhone and tap & holding the reload icon brings up the option to reload without Content Blockers, and then the page reloads with them off while Content Blocking overall remains enabled, and once again loading the page w/ Content Blockers again enabled in a new session of Safari. For me, on my iPhone 12 Pro on iOS 15 b2 (second beta 2 LoL), tapping the ... icon and then scrolling way down to "Turn Off Content Blockers" just disables Content Blocking all together for any website I go to. It still remains enabled within the 1Blocker App, though. Turn off Content Blocking? Sure, tap that option I guess. But I'm still not seeing a way to quickly reload any web page without Content Blocking temporarily in Safari on iOS 15.

This has me intrigued. Can you confirm if your wife is actually using iOS 14? The method you described is how it worked prior to iOS 13, and turning off the content blockers moved to the 'AA' button in iOS 13. Maybe we'll never know what's going on here.

She’s also on an iPhone 12 Pro, running iOS 14.6. And again, that ‘Aa’ icon isn’t present in iOS 15, only on iOS 14.7 and below’ish.

Right, that's what I'm saying. iOS 13 & 14 has the 'AA' icon where you turn off the content blockers. iOS 12 and below is where the content blocker is turned off by holding the reload icon. I really have no idea how/why it's working that way for your wife then. None of my iOS 14 devices (along others on here) let them be turned off by holding the reload icon.

Maybe I’m being misunderstood here. Yes, we both recognize how the ‘Aa’ icon is there in iOS 14&13.
I’m saying that icon is not present in iOS 15, and the only available option to quickly reload a website in that session without Content Blockers is to turn them off for Safari in general. Not just in that specific instance.
iOS 14 behavior= Perfect
iOS 15 behavior= nooooooo

I have had the same type issue with the < > controls at the bottom of Safari. Almost every other APP even Apple one such as messages, etc. have those controls at the top.
At least Apple should offer us options - top or bottom

iOS 15 beta 3 has solved my problems, it seems. I wasn’t aware you can long press the Address Bar and see things like reload, copy, and share. I guess it’s the same as tapping … and any of those options. It just seems easier to me. Also, keeping the Address Bar docked to the keyboard is a nice touch. It still doesn’t change the fact that we’ll all lose just a little bit of space at the bottom of a large number of “endlessly scrolling” style websites, considering the space at the top will always be there due to the notch.

it’s better than beta 2, so that’s good.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I agree it’s much better. I still don’t like the tab thumbnails. The old stack style was more useful, especially when you have a lot of tabs open.

My thumbs still instinctively go to the top of the page looking for the address bar.

Yeah, I agree the old style stack of cards seems better when you’ve got lots of tabs open. I don’t really want the iPadOS style on my iPhone. I do like the macOS style on my iPad, though.

Yeah, it’s fine on the iPad. It has the screen real estate for it; the iPhone doesn’t.

According to John Gruber iPad OS is going to change back to having a discrete tab bar and one URL address bar. He also says folks at Apple told him more refinements are coming. I’m curious how much of this is a reaction to criticism and how much is just betas changing over time as engineers keep refining things. My guess is it’s probably a bit of both.

That's good news if it does happen.

The moving address bar sucks and the inactive tabs are way narrower (barely has 4-5 letters) compared to iPadOS 14 making it harder to see what's in the other tabs. Feels like minimalism just for minimalism's sake.

Considering the toolbar auto-hides once you start scrolling, I really don't see what the big deal is with it being fully functional with easy access to the tab previews, etc. when it's visible.

Given the fact macOS Monterey saw an overhaul change, Safari on iPadOS will get the same treatment. And in addition to that… they brought back the share button/icon in Safari on iPadOS 15 beta 3. For which it is baffling me that they have the button/icon in two separate location.

If anything, I’m hoping they give us more customization in terms of if users want a unified address/tab bar or separate one. I’ll choose the former, but I’m fully aware that most want the previous design back.

That's good news if it does happen.

Knowing how much you value having a lot of tabs open… I can understand how annoyed you can be with the new design.

I think the new design doesn’t take into consideration of those that utilize a great number of tabs.

I really would love to know their internal discussion and thought process behind moving the address bar to the bottom. Literally every browser ever has had the address bar on the top, it is just weird trying to force a completely new workflow onto people for what? Reasons unknown. People like my mother will open the new Safari thinking they "deleted the internet".

It also messes up a lot of pages and does not really give you more content on a page either because the top is still empty, matching the notch. I hope they change it back to the top on one of the upcoming betas or at least let us have an option.

Generally speaking, why does Apple hate visible buttons so much? How is anyone supposed to know you can press on invisible space to trigger menus or actions. "It just does not work anymore"

I heartily concur. It's one thing if they migrated the address to the bottom across all platforms (which I hope they never do), but to have it at the bottom while every other browser and platform has it at the top is bonkers. I instinctively reach for the top to access the address bar. Now I have to change my behavior only on iPhone.

And it does frequently get in the way, even when you auto-minimize. I often have to force it out of the way.

From what I’m reading here, it seems like they might move the Address Bar to the top again, or at least provide an option to do so. I specifically submitted Feedback requesting this and it says there’s a potential fix for this in iOS 15?
