I tried to look on the Apple app to see what the Monthly upgrade loan payment would be for the XS Max 256 but it kept wanting me to go through more windows and I was nervous about accidentally committing to it. I pay $56.16 a month currently for my X 256GB. Anyone know what the Monthly upgrade loan payment would be for the XS Max 256?
about 3.50 more a month for the XS Max 256...

Not that bad TBH

XS Max is $60/month.

I am upgrading from an iPhone 8 Plus and it is $15 per month. $60/month. Not sure where you're getting $3.50...maybe the trade in value of the X makes it less?

Yep! It was so boring overall! No wonder they went as far as creating that expensive video intro!
Haha, I missed the intro. Got home just a few minutes after the keynote had started... gotta go watch that :)

They knew they had to offer something extra, as basically there was nothing exciting on the iPhone side. I couldn’t believe how much time they spent on the whole Bokeh thing! I already use this adjustment feature a lot in Dark Room and I was like seriously?! Is that your best marketing card here?! I mean, I got it, it’s a new feature, but don’t treat it like it’s hardware related! I can’t believe they’ve made it exclusive to the new iPhones only!

They seemed to be feigning excitement but mostly came across at times as desperation or anxiety, especially when announcing the “starting” prices for the phones. Personally, (for the first time) I was so bored (I watched the replay) that I forwarded two or three times, especially during the gaming segment and when they discussed the technical hardware stuff with the graphics of the iPhone guts in the background. It seemed more in-depth than usual as if talking about things that go over the heads of laypeople like me would distract us from the lack of “there” there. Serious misfire!

So I'm watching the keynote right now and I'm very disappointed that there's no new major feature... I mean it feels like they're just milking last year's iPhone X.

What do you guys think?

It's an 'S' year. A spec bump.

And these spec bumps are pretty sweet.

I'm soooo looking forward to getting my 512GB Max. :D

Dual Sim IS a good feature if you need it.

Sadly, my work phone is a Galaxy that loses 4% battery if i breathe on it. Can't BYO.

Use my X all day at work, hits about 35% in the evening.

Only ever use work Galaxy to answer calls, 3 a day maybe, read, not reply to, work email. Have to enable power saving mode by lunch time lol.
Do what a lot of people I know did, forward all the calls and add work email to their personal iPhone and not deal with Android at all!

They’re saying it’s about 3.50 more a month if you upgrade from a X 256GB to a XS Max 256 GB. Not bad at all, but not excited enough to stay up to order it Friday night. I’m sure some day in the next 3 to 6 months I’ll be at the mall and bite the bullet.

Does anyone know what happens if you upgrade after you pay more than 12 months of your loan? Last year, I had paid exactly 12 payments. Does that mean I just start my new rental agreement whenever I purchase which would put me off the fall upgrade cycle?

Not sure how anyone could make that assumption, it's based on what test, specifications, notation by Apple...doubt that.

In terms of pure stamina, iPhones continue to stagnant and the iPhone 8 (1821 mAh) and iPhone 8 Plus (2675 mAh) actually have smaller batteries than the iPhone 7 (1960 mAh) and iPhone 7 Plus (2900 mAh). The iPhone X has a 2716 mAh battery, but its battery life falls closer to the iPhone 8 than iPhone 8 Plus - aka not great.

By the 1st to specs above, Xs Max gets 2hrs more than an X, for the above to be true, ip8+ must get more than 2hrs greater than the X. Andriod are going well over 3Ah batteries, near 4aH now...lotta energy if they catch fire :). 4GB ram...uh, typical Apple, they had accesss to Samsung's 8GB ram, as some Andriod now have, and I'm guessing the 2019 update will also skim on the newer/faster 8GB LPDDR5 spec...2x the bandwidth of LPDDR4 used in the ip8(faster LPDDR4X in ip8+ & X).

Um, I hope you don't mind that I snipped your post. It was rather long winded and I'm not so sure that all of it was even in reference to my post which you quoted. What I will say in response is that you're just looking at mAh for some odd reason and not considering the entire package. For example, you have to remember that the new iPhone XR doesn't have to push nearly as many pixels as not only the X, XS, XS Max but also the 8 Plus. This takes a very large toll on battery life.

Regardless of me trying to explain logic, other sites have already posted similar thoughts after I made my original post. I've made an assumption due to my knowledge of the different technology used, what Apple said at the event as well as the actual listed specs that now everyone can see on Apple.com where it specifically says under Power and Battery for the iPhone XR and I quote "Lasts up to 1.5 hours longer than iPhone 8 Plus". The current iPhone battery life champ is the iPhone 8 Plus...

So... you have an iPhone 8 Plus LCD with a resolution of 1920x1080 with a now last gen chipset on a larger wafer. It would be quite easy to assume, just from that information, that even with a larger LCD the iPhone XR would achieve a much longer battery life when just looking at the fact that it has a 7nm wafer and has to push less pixels. But hey, don't take my word for it. In fact, I'll do you one better...

If you can show me a few reputable endurance tests, once reviews start rolling out, where the majority say the iPhone 8 Plus is still the battery champ over the iPhone XR, I'll buy you one (iPhone XR) 100%. I'm just that confident in my assumption. Cheers :)

Not the most exciting upgrades for the Xs, but it was to be expected for an "s" year. I'll probably dump my X on CL in January. I'm not on a contract and I paid in full so might as well upgrade every year and get an iPhone with the standard warranty. Maybe I'll go with a gold iPhone for the very first time.

Why January?

Apple's latest offerings have all been pretty big disappointments for me:

- New macbook pros: no true keyboard fix, big price bump, still have stupid touchbar. Stuck with intel 14nm chips still which run hot. (Last one isn't their fault)
- iPhone: New size is too big. I don't want a massive phone. No real innovation for $750, and last I read the A12 is only a tiny 10% performance increase over the A11.

I may wait for the next full generation of products to upgrade.

- MBP: Hopefully has a fixed chassis, cooler running 10nm, AV1 hardware decoding, 802.11ax. Man that would be a sweet machine that wouldn't need an upgrade for a long time.
- iPhone: Not really much I'm waiting for anymore, though 128gb base memory would be nice. Also want to see which model gets the high accuracy GPS chip from broadcom. Not sure if the XR or XS has it yet.

I am mildly disappointed. As a 7 Plus owner, I had my sights sets on the Xs Max. I didn't expect any major changes other than screen size/quality. However, I bought into the rumors that it would be priced at $999. I definitely understand why most analysts predicted the Xr would be the hot seller this year. I will probably still choose the Xs Max, but I am struggling with the fact that $350 more only gets me less than half an inch more of screen real estate, a better quality screen, a dual-lens camera (which I already have on my 7 plus), and some increased water resistance. I actually like some of the color options on the Xr, but whatever I get will be covered by a case anyway.

So confession time. I walked into an Apple Store while at the mall today to check out the XS Max. As soon as the display popped up on the lock screen of the display model, I was pretty much sold. Small question: is that supposed to be a planet, moon or (as my sales associate thought) a bubble seen up close? They had plenty of Max models in store especially for Apple Upgrade members. I got the Gold XS Max 256 GB. It’s the first time I haven’t gone for Space Grey or Black. Liking it a lot so far. I bought an otterbox case and also bought a screen protector for it which they now have a cool contraption they use to apply in store. I didn’t want a pastel colored case and the Otterbox was the only black one I saw that they had in store. My only quibble is that while it will provide plenty of protection to my average of three drops a day, it added a lot of weight and thickness. Not sure I’m liking that. I do like that the case is mostly clear on the back so I can see the gold.

The lock screen is a bubble. Glad you like your Max. I got the gold Max, and I love it. :)

What case did you get for yours? I’m thinking of returning my otterbox. It is so bulky and heavy. It provides protection, but the rest kinda defeats the purpose of buying an iPhone. I had a Tech21 (is that the correct name?) on my X and it was okay, but Apple isn’t selling those, at least not yet.

I use a black Apple Silicone case: it’s relatively thin, and it’s grippy. In my quest for a minimal case, I got a Torras Slim Fit last week that is very thin, indeed: I like it. I typically use a case only when I’m doing physical activity (running, at the gym, working outside), but I usually go caseless most of the time because I love the look and feel of the bare iPhone, so I avoid the thick, super-protective cases.

For me, the 2018 iPhone was disappointing. So much so that I am holding on to my X for another year. My X is super fast now. My display is gorgeous now. My pictures are gorgeous now. Just can not justify upgrading for a larger screen and slightly better camera and speed.

Midwest City! I have some extended family there. :)
Thanks for the link. I just ordered the black Torras Slim Fit. I’ll have it by Friday so I’ll see if I like it. I drop my phone more than I’d like to admit. It looks very slim which is attractive. I’ll lose the clear panel on the back of my otterbox, but I’ll trade showing off my gold if it’s a couple pounds lighter.

I was very disappointed with the new iPhones this year, since I own an iPhone X and there was just no "it" feature to make me want to upgrade. The new camera features are nice, but I can control depth of field with apps like Focos and I am sure someone will make an app that has some sort of "Smart HDR" feature for the iPhone X if there is already not one out. Plus, for what I use my camera for, the iPhone X camera is more than great!

This comes from someone who has upgraded every year since the original iPhone in 2007 as I have pointed out in some posts in this thread earlier.

However, if you own anything earlier than an iPhone X (or 8/8+) they are worth the upgrade for sure.

Question for you since I have not seen the actual gold colored phone in person yet. Is it rose gold or gold, because in some pictures it looks gold, but then in others it looks more rose gold? Maybe just in certain pictures it is the lighting? Thanks for your help, enjoy your new iPhone!
