It seems like pretty subtle improvements, better camera, better cpu, better modems, faster FaceID. It's not anything groundbreaking.

I beg to differ. Each S phone had a major new feature. This one really doesn't have a major one. It does have minor new features like smart HDR/depth control but that can be bundled in the camera improvements that occur annually alongside speed upgrades.

3GS - Video Recording / Voice Control
4S - Siri
5S - TouchID
6S - 3D Touch (meh)
XS - ???

Yes, bigger screen is REALLY disappointing...;)

Why do people think "bigger is better"?
It sure isn't for me..

Am I the only one around who wants a smaller phone? I have a iPhone 4, 5c and 6 sitting here on my desk. Of the three, I find the 5c about the perfect size.

You're not alone - many of us do and they just DGAF about us anymore..

What I am really disappointed about is with iPhone XS Max. It doesn't differentiate at all besides the screen size.

At least it has the landscape mode for iPhone XS MAX but some features like split screen on iPad or something like that.

All of you current iPhone X owners won't find anything all that compelling in the new phone.
On the other hand...
All the holdouts still clinging to their iPhone 6 Plus phones have PLENTY to be excited about (except the eye watering price).
Apple's iPhones WILL excite you, but not if you buy them every year.
Skip a few years, the thrill will come back.

Looks like my upgrade this years gonna be an 8plus lol I wanna keep my home button....!

Apple is the cheapest billion dollar company I’ve ever seen. I get it that android phones need more ram than iPhones do, but come on.

•The 512gb X Plus is a joke. It should pull out all the stops like the 512gb Note 9. Give us 6gb of ram and 3500+ mah battery. The damn thing will be over $1700 after taxes. I paid $1000 for my first MacBook.

•64 gb of storage should ONLY be the base amount on the “budget” lcd model. They need to come back with 128gb as the base storage on their oled phones

•Ram should be 4gb for the lcd, followed by 5 on the xs and 6 on the x plus. I’m sorry, but these phones cost more than a comparable laptop.

This 8 plus might be my first and last iPhone. I’m not cheap, but I also value a good deal. There are no good deals now. The 64gb of storage on the X plus is probably the biggest thing that has me going. I get it that it’s an S model and nothing will be ground breaking, but come on. Folks, the oneplus 6T is looking DAMN good to me right about now. 6.4” with top tier specs for $5XX. Apple is so out of touch it’s mind boggling. How much extra would it have cost to add more storage and an extra gb of ram? Sad, really.

At least on Android I don't feel that split screen is very useful in a phone size device. It's faster to just change apps back and forth. Even on iPad split screen is poorly supported by Google apps for example.

If you already have an X, then yeah it's not a very exciting update. But for a lot of us who are still on plus model iPhone 6/7's and were left out from last year's upgrades, this is going to be a huge update for us. I didn't buy an X, I hated the notch and how narrow it is compared to my plus. The MAX has the plus sized keyboard I'm used to and I'm hoping the larger screen makes the notch less of an issue.

I'm also pretty excited about the watch. I haven't updated my Watch since version 1, there's been little reason to, this is the first significant enough update for me. I'll be up all night on thurs to buy an X S MAX and a new watch for sure.

It is interesting that they didn't have any new XS specific features that they were announcing today. Seems like most of the time they announce the new OS in the Spring and then there is a new feature that they sneak in that is only for the new phones. Animoji last year is one example.

I thought it was also interesting that they only stated the starting prices for each iteration but but not the staggered prices for phones with more GB nor the monthly upgrade prices. Didn’t they use to do that during the keynote? Although at these prices I can see why they’d like to bury that info.

So I'm watching the keynote right now and I'm very disappointed that there's no new major feature... I mean it feels like they're just milking last year's iPhone X.

What do you guys think?

Yes I’m underwhelmed. I’ll wait until the 8 is updated (fingers crossed), and then upgrade my 7. I’m not interested in FaceID or a phone bigger than 4.7”.

Apple needs to address the market share that does not want a brick in their pocket.

Yeah, that was all kind of underwhelming. Looks all nice and good, but I missed the enthusiasm and oohs and aahs from last year. No big leap.

I'm not disappointed, in the sense that it was to be expected that Apple would capitalise on the investment made for the X. The XR colourful lineup seems nice. The Max - too big and heavy for me. I got used to the 5.8" screen. Fits nicely in all pockets.

After all the hype last year - we're back to incremental upgrades for a while. I'll be sticking to my X for now. It's doing just fine, and I really love it. I feel good about keeping it, not missing out on anything, so no urge to splurge on a new device. :D

Can't wait for iOS 12, though. Only a few more days !

I am disappointed in the price, but I knew that was to be expected.

Not sure I want to pay $15 more dollars a month just to have the bigger phone...

The exact same reaction! I literally chuckled when Phil said that!
Haha, me too. By the way, I had the impression the whole gang looked wayyy less enthusiastic than usual (certainly less than last year). The "super exciting" attitude just wasn't there.

“Customers want more”

“How’s 30 minutes sound?”

It sounds negligible. It seems like something worth mentioning just to do it, but certainly not prefacing, and maybe even burying it in the specs sheet. Absurd. 40% efficiency gains in the processor. But 30. Paltry. Minutes.

Yep, That’s what customers have been asking for all along ... sigh

I tried to look on the Apple app to see what the Monthly upgrade loan payment would be for the XS Max 256 but it kept wanting me to go through more windows and I was nervous about accidentally committing to it. I pay $56.16 a month currently for my X 256GB. Anyone know what the Monthly upgrade loan payment would be for the XS Max 256?

I don’t but it’s beginning to sound like a scooter payment. Yikes.

Yep! It was so boring overall! No wonder they went as far as creating that expensive video intro! They knew they had to offer something extra, as basically there was nothing exciting on the iPhone side. I couldn’t believe how much time they spent on the whole Bokeh thing! I already use this adjustment feature a lot in Dark Room and I was like seriously?! Is that your best marketing card here?! I mean, I got it, it’s a new feature, but don’t treat it like it’s hardware related! I can’t believe they’ve made it exclusive to the new iPhones only!

And if you check the specs on their official page, some battery stats are actually lower on the new XS compared to last year’s X! That means that the battery life is pretty much the same. We don’t even know the official battery capacity yet. What if it’s even less than the regular X? Apple has done that before.
