Was that camera lens on the back of the Xr ridiculously large (in terms of sticky-outy-large) or was it just the way the photos were taken?

I'm not disappointed... just relieved that I'm not tempted to upgrade my iPhone X! :D

Actually this was a pretty significant announcement for certain demographics: Those who can benefit from dual SIM, those who want a larger Plus-Sized X, and those who desire the performance improvements for things like gaming and AR.

Now the Apple Watch S4 on the other hand... that stole the show. I will definitely be upgrading my 3-year-old S0.

You know, I could not put my finger on it but I am also now relieved that I do not have to go through the whole process of replacing my phone! Someone in my family is going to be very disappointed as they "thought" they were getting my X!

The major hardware advances start with the display. Naturally, the 6.5-inch iPhone Max has a resolution of 2,688 x 1,242 with the same pixel density of the iPhone Xs. They both have HDR, Dolby Vision and HDR 10. There's also a 120Hz refresh rate, same as the iPad Pro. And Face ID is getting a speed boost, as well -- Apple didn't give specifics, but few will complain about unlocking their phone quicker.

Nope. Nothing new design wise. No Airpods. No improvement as a music player.

At this point I think it is wise to stick with your phone until Apple stops supporting it.

This is probably the first year I won’t upgrade. The amount of difference for the price and storage you get is simply not worth it.

Same here. I have an iPhone X and I see no compelling reason to upgrade. A little bummed out that I will (most likely - unless I buy it just for the sake of have the latest) be missing out on the pre-order madness this year!

:apple:

Has this been confirmed?

Also, any word on the included charger? Are they finally giving us a quick charge option out of the box or same ol', same ol'?

I will probably get the Max, I use a stylus on my iPhone X and I know it will give me a bit more room....

One thing I noticed Apple took down the iPhone X from the store.

Just buy yourself an iMac with the money you'd spend on a new phone.... :)

Not sure why anyone is disappointed unless they wanted a smaller phone. It was pretty well known the upgrades would be a 6.5” phone and a small spec bump. What were people looking for that are let down?

Sounds good, but still not going to come close to the SOT capability of many of the top android phones. Does it say how many mah the x plus battery is?
They've actually changed this a bit from what was said at the event. I've updated my previous post so it's accurate with their website specs listed.

EDIT: Not sure about battery size in mah. Back when I was still an Android kid, the most disappointing thing about them was how fast they died... so not sure what you mean there lol

No I was disappointed with the announcements as well. $750 for a 720p display on XR is absurd. $1100 with 64gb as base storage is nuts. I need a new phone and I'd much prefer iOS if nothing else for steady long term OS updates but the specs vs price ratio was a big let down and at the very least makes my decision harder when you get such great hardware with some Android phones (long term OS updates is a problem though).

And while a minor thing I had kind of hoped we might see the XS Max come out of left field with support for Apple Pencil or maybe a new "Pencil mini" stylus.

My iPhone 8 at $699 - now $599 - seems like a positive BARGAIN and suddenly seems completely sensible.

Skipping this year, but I'll be blowing 4 figures next year I'm sure. Might tell my wife she should dump her SE for a 10s now and I'll pay off my 8 now so we can stagger upgrades since I'll be doing it next year.

The keynote clearly said 120 Hz touch-sensing for all models. Apple's website also doesn't say anything else. Apple would definitely make a big deal about if it was 120 Hz refresh rate. Maybe next year.

I'm honestly so confused with so many features. Some I feel are all carried of from last year iPhone X.

Can anybody lay down the features that are new on iPhone XS compared to iPhone X

So at least we all have a clear idea if we should really buy this or not?

So I'm watching the keynote right now and I'm very disappointed that there's no new major feature...

If you're disappointed, you weren't being realistic. For an S upgrade cycle, then new features were better than expected.

It seems like pretty subtle improvements, better camera, better cpu, better modems, faster FaceID. It's not anything groundbreaking.

It's basically just faster everything which you will mostly notice as a bit faster FaceID, a bit faster photo processing etc. New size option, new gold color option.

I missed the keynote and am currently waiting for Apple to make it available for replay (looks like it’s starting now), but from what I’ve heard so far, I’m not that excited. I have been doing the upgrade program for 2 years now and for the X last year (received a day after launch date). I went from the 7+ to the X and the only thing I’m somewhat excited about right now is the bigger XS Max as I liked the bigger size of my 7+, but I’m not sure it’s worth the stress of dealing with staying up to order on Friday as well as paying an extra month’s payment to be eligible to purchase through the upgrade program. Unless the keynote blows me away, I think I’ll likely wake until demand dies down (I expect demand won’t be as high this year) to decide to eventually upgrade.

I also still have a first gen Apple Watch and it still completely meets all my needs. I used to be a big watch guy with lots of watches (especially Fossil), but I started selling them on eBay as my Apple Watch is the only one I wear. The new one looks cool, but at least on this keynote it doesn’t look so different that I feel I need it and most of these added features aren’t attractive to me.

I am disappointed too - but I was prepared for that. So on my iPhone X I use the Bamboo Fineline - it is decent.

Correcting you because you're wrong. It said 1.5hrs more than iPhone 8 Plus
You're mixing what they said up.

iPhone Xs gets 30min more battery life than iPhone X
iPhone Xs Max gets 1.5hrs more battery life than iPhone X (corrected from Xs)
iPhone Xr gets 1.5hrs more battery life than iPhone 8 Plus - (this one will have the longest battery life ever on an iPhone easy, no contest)
Not sure how anyone could make that assumption, it's based on what test, specifications, notation by Apple...doubt that.

In terms of pure stamina, iPhones continue to stagnant and the iPhone 8 (1821 mAh) and iPhone 8 Plus (2675 mAh) actually have smaller batteries than the iPhone 7 (1960 mAh) and iPhone 7 Plus (2900 mAh). The iPhone X has a 2716 mAh battery, but its battery life falls closer to the iPhone 8 than iPhone 8 Plus - aka not great.

By the 1st to specs above, Xs Max gets 2hrs more than an X, for the above to be true, ip8+ must get more than 2hrs greater than the X. Andriod are going well over 3Ah batteries, near 4aH now...lotta energy if they catch fire :). 4GB ram...uh, typical Apple, they had accesss to Samsung's 8GB ram, as some Andriod now have, and I'm guessing the 2019 update will also skim on the newer/faster 8GB LPDDR5 spec...2x the bandwidth of LPDDR4 used in the ip8(faster LPDDR4X in ip8+ & X).

and so, Apple prioritized not on battery life, which they could have done with the 7nm SoC efficiency over prior A11, but on needed performance enhancements instead.

"Larger phones usually offer longer battery life, and that holds true when it comes to Apple’s new iPhones. But Apple’s claims sound a bit like a riddle: The company says the iPhone X lasts two hours longer than the iPhone 7, but the iPhone 8 Plus offers about the same battery life as the iPhone 7 Plus. So to really understand how the iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus compare, you need to have an idea of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus’ battery life. That’s when things start to sound a bit like a math problem: If the iPhone X’s battery life is two hours longer than the iPhone 7’s, and the iPhone 8 Plus’ is equal to that of the iPhone 7 Plus’, but the iPhone 7 Plus has longer battery life than the iPhone 7, which iPhone has the longest battery life?"

Xs Mas has https://www.gadgetsnow.com/mobile-phones/Apple-iPhone-XS-Max "2985 mAh", just outdoing the 7+ as the largest capacity battery ever in an iphone...time will tell whether or not Xs Max is better or worse than the 8+, and by what margin, if those are simply minutia in actual use for those who don't focus on specs all day :)

Oh ios and the custom this n that are more efficient that anything possible on the Droid side...some proof/tests? And the massive amount of foolish power consumption of 8GB that no one needs, correct, that's what Apple PR would say. Remember the debaucle over the 32GB in MBP, truth came out, just about all the massive rework that needed to be done to get 32GB in MBP without massive battery runtime losses, was a battery capacity increase of how much, anyone? anyone? Don't buy into Apple PR/marketing campaigns...don't drink their koolaid.

For how much more would it cost Apple to put in 8GB of RAM over 4GB...few dollars? On a $1000 luxury item, give me a break. Too bad there is not an 'activity monitor' for ios as there is on Mac OS X. 2019 update with faster LPDDR5 at minimum 8GB Ram is more than needed, if higher video recording/higher quality codec's 10bit raw in video, all types of these new neural/GPU/CPU mixin it up...drop in 5G cellular with near 1Gbs theoretical? can you say excessive bandwidth requirement to stream every expanding use of 4k, even in video ads in ios or Droid browsers...don't get started with 8k now<silly to be true, but it's coming.

Safari 10 under Mac OS 10.10, AM shows each tab as a separate process being controlled from the main Safari app. There is no 4k or anything I could find for motortrend's website, just many images & *ads* *ads* that can stall in loading (this on 100Mbs connection that was speedtest.net at around 120mbs) causing a type of excess RAM consumption of 7.17GB. one single tab under Safari used up almost the entire 8GB installed ram on my old retina MBP. Was shocking to see, now what's going to happen on 5G cellular if ios mobile versions of video streaming and stoopid a** sites that are set up like motortrend? Going to mean sluggish internet surfing u can't figure out why...come on! you scream at your new X++ 2019, why with even 5G is this so unresponsive. Just to be clear, FireFox in image below, it's tab processes are not individually listed, but they are noted as generic FireFoxCP Webcontent that comprise several tabs each.
