My understanding of the way eBay operates, is that NONE of that money gets released to the Seller, until the item is received and feedback is issued by the buyers upon receipt of said merchandise. So, many of you may be jumping the gun with regards to "having lost your money" when in fact the money is still being held in eBay/PayPal accounts...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm thinkin' the money has never arrived to the seller, b/c the seller hasn't received feedback.

That happens with new sellers and low feedback sellers.. (it doesn't happen to me). I'm pretty sure its happening with this guy though because the account has seen a flurry of activity very quickly.

I'm sure "consultant" thinks he knows everything, but that whole paypal system is automated and locked all that money down.

I'm still about 99% sure I wont be seeing an air by the end of the week.

ya i'm 100% sure of this, like i had said before a friend of mine sold multiple items totalling about 3 grand and they froze his entire account until feedback was received. It's just weird to me why this guy would refund me part of my shipping cost when i asked for 3 day shipping instead of 5, he could have easily lied and said he got me the 3 day shipping as i ordered saturday. Half ass scammer??

The only other way i think we could find out if the account is hijacked is emailing a couple of the people that left him feedback and ask them if his english was bad...the only link to the seller, haha

BTW one of his macbook Pro listings is off ebay, he used to have 2, now there is one...

I'm about 99.9% given up. I emailed the dude this morning and he hasn't responded.

I'm a little disappointed but not surprised at all. I already have the rev A macbook air so it's not like i needed it anyways.

Appreciate the support of some of you guys. But i'm a little annoyed by some of the self-righteous proselytizing in the thread. Most of us knew exactly what we were getting into.

Now that it seems to have fallen though, certain people (aka consultant) feel an urge to go to their podiums to rant about the system. You don't realize that you are preaching to people that know as much, if not more, about the system as you do.

he had 2 such listings, now only one.

This morning, 1 of those 2 listings only had 2 of the macbook pros left.

He sold that 1 whole batch of macbook pros

just click on "sellers other items" then "completed listings" on the left They're all still there..

Here's the thing i don't get though, if this guy is indeed a scammer why would he use Paypal as the payment method? Is this guy that careless and stupid and did not do his homework before pulling this? did he really think paypal would release all that money before any feedback? I would think that before running a scam of this proportion you would do some homework and research beforehand to cover your bases. I mean we're not talking about some guy selling one $500 item and requesting western union payment here, we are talking about $50k+

I'm just a little baffled, maybe he was hoping that paypal would release some of the money at least the first few sales and he would be content with that. Or maybe he just blindly gave it a shot hoping to get lucky.

I could understand why he is answering calls and still trying to reassure people in order to avoid negative feedback, but once he saw that paypal is holding the funds until positive feedback is received you would think he would realize that positive feedback is not happening so the gig is up.

I'm a little baffled by this and very intrigued, cant wait to see how it turns out.

No one here really knows why the MacBook Airs are priced so low, but even Apple has been known to unload some merchandise through unconventional channels.

Even if we're not being scammed, everyone knows the ’Air costs less than a MacBook to manufacture,... an iPod hard drive, slowest processor in the Mac line-up, no built-in anything, so a steep price cut on the MacBook Air is perfectly possible. The profit margins on this one must be huge. I'm aware that Apple's sitting on a pile of cash, but can they afford to look like a boutique manufacturer in this economy?

I'm not saying my logic proves that the seller is legit, only that $1199 is certainly a price point in which a MacBook Air could be sold. The ’Air repositioned as an affordable MacBook wouldn’t be a bad move for Apple.

Ya, i'm baffled too, i emailed this morning asking for my tracking and he hasn't responded, it's very strange, either this guy extremely smart (i.e. has figured out a way to get the money to himself), or extremely stupid (didn't know paypal would hold his money), or just not a scammer (praying to god this is the case).
I have a feeling i'll get an email from this guy late at night stating tmr he will ship

:eek:holy crap so far in the 4 auctions his total sales have been $95,938
LMAO! if this guy gets away with it he will be sitting pretty. not bad for one weeks work. and he still has 6 macbook pro's left. I really can't see how paypal would release that money, unless he hijacked a verified paypal account with a business reputation or something and had the money released that way.

My vote is complete idiot trying to scam. Too many things don't make any sense.

He probably lost his job at the car dealership and is trying to make ends meet in this economy.

LOL =)

Just read up on some of the scams. It's possible to get money out. Scammers have been working since the beginning of time, and they have quite a few tricks.

I am just warning people against the obvious.

Don't try to analyze these scumbags. Once your foot is in the door (the object is not to step in ) All their behavior is going to be either inexplicable or full of contradictions.

You just have had to deal with a few of them to see what I mean.

LOL at the OJ pic. Good one.

Hope everybody gets their money back. I don't think the scammer's grammar and especially the different types of spelling mistakes he makes matches up with "Ruben" the car salesman. I think the guy's account got hacked and this scammer is just trying to pass himself off as Ruben. Giving out the phone number to his previous car dealership so that people could call in and find out Ruben hasn't been working there for months should have been a dead giveaway that this guy isn't who he says he is.

What is the seller's Pay Pal ID? usedsnoopy is not the whole ID. I need an the Pay Pal email ID to look him up.

I sent him an eBay message. It reads:

I am very interested in buying 5 units. Can you please post a picture of the laptops with an apple or fruit on the box? This will assure me that you actually have the laptops.

Thanks!

I don't know his phone number, but for those that do, is it the same one as in the car ads?

His paypal email also has car ads associated with it on google with a phone number.

It'd be nice if we could compile this info so we can figure out who this guy is.

If his ebay, paypal ID, and phone number are the same as in the car ads, then you guys are assuming that someone stole "Ruben"'s ebay account, stole his phone number, AND stole his paypal account?

i think it is more likely that Ruben really is Ruben.
