You guys are all haters. Just because you paid too much for your Air you think anything less is a scam. Please..... Not all GREAT deals are scams. I got all my Macs and almost everything A/V gear off eBay and not one has failed.

With that said, you still have to be very careful. MacBooks are HOT and scammers know they can make quick cash. IMO, the listing you mentioned is a bit fishy. Too many MacBooks and no recent history (at all). I look for recent feedbacks on MacBook sales. If no MacBooks or only one or two, I stay away. There is a listing now on a MacBook Pro 2.5ghz (MB471LL/A) for $1950. Seller has high feedback numbers (1602 @ 99.9%), BUT no MacBooks. All sales under $500. Hum....

Just do your homework and you'll be fine. There are good sellers out there. You just have to find them.

"you can call me at 3054918278 my name ruben z , also you can hold with your buying till youll see some other happy costumer , thanks and best regards!"

Is that the number others got? I also asked him how he gets them so cheap because I "was worried its a scam" but he didn't answer. Possibly this is understandable as we know there is some loop hole which people have to get cheap iPhones and sell them at $500 etc on ebay(one guy here does it actually but doesn't say how)

That doesnt really mean much, my friend was scammed on ebay last year really badly and the scammer gave him a number and even spoke to him on the phone to reassure him that his package was on its way, and that they had delays with shipping. It was something similar to this where the person was selling 25 ipod touches. He even had positive feedback on some of the ipods which i assume were some of his other accounts or his partners in crime. anyhow at the end of the day it turned out he had hacked into someone else's account and sold a bunch of these mass auctions before he was caught. back then paypal insurance was different, you only got your money back if they were able to recover it from the seller. And as you can probably guess the money was taken out of the paypal account and dissapeared as soon as it was deposited, with 50+ people submitting claims only a few got their money back. I see things are different now and paypal will refund your money at their loss i guess, I dont know how tedious the process will be though.

That being said there are alot of good deals on ebay so i'm not one to jump on the "its a scam" bandwagon and if the OP comes back and says he got his machine as promised and i see positive feedback from a few people i will definitely get one. I mean at that price you can buy it, use it for a while and sell it used for the same price :D

Wait a minute. We're not hating.

You just said yourself that the deal sounded "fishy". OK, well that's what we are saying....

Cheap Airs in Austin

While we're still on topic about most deals being too good to be true.

If you are in the Austin area, you might want to consider this "too good to be true listing." I am in no way promoting this ad:

I'm pretty disappointed that I just bought an Air for 1400 thinking I got a good deal. I'm a student as well, so that was a lot of money for me. Do you guys think this is a scam?

I'd never trust craigslist if there was shipping involved. But if that dude agreed to a local meetup where you could see the machine in person and look it over for problems before you bought it, that would be an amazing deal.

Obviously you'd need to take the necessary precautions. Don't just arrive with a wad of cash or you're setting yourself up for a mugging, heh.

I'm waiting for my rev b air to arrive off ebay today. Should be here, seemed above board, and for £880 on ebay.co.uk!
Not sure how he got the air? Hope its not stolen, as I want to register apple care, just in case it got those dammed lines or lose keys!
Cross my fingers it's factory sealed as he stated! Looks it from the photo. However, the thought of it originally being bought on a stolen credit card scares me, slightly. (I doubt it, but judging on the info in this fred, you can never be sure! Of anything!!!!

All though he did say original prof of purchase would come along with it :)

Well, it sounds like when you call the guy he is a foreigner, as you can tell in his emails that he sends. He said one to two business days. I guess we will have to see what happens. He does answer the phone though, so thats encouraging. Just wanted to give you guys an update as to what someone is going through.

Yeah, Austin has a large following on craigslist though. I use it for a lot of electronics purchases, and I can usually filter out the scammer. But this guy posted his phone, and that's a local number. Quite an anomaly why he would sell it so cheap.

Agreed. There are many of us, ME INCLUDED that paid way too much for an MBA. Had I not needed it as a business computer, I may have gone the cheap route. For me, I couldn't deal with any nonsense... but, there are great deals to be had for those willing to take the time. And if you go the eBay and pay via PayPal, you're not going to be out money in the end as long as you follow the guidelines for safe shopping.

People think everything is a scam, when the truth is there are just a lot of good deals from honest people who need to sell and just wants to make a few bucks.

I would NOT send any product/money to a Craig's List sale/purchase. Those scammers have all of the tricks there. It is much more difficult to scam on eBay and the end result is a loss to PayPal or eBay and not you as the safe buyer. My rule is PayPal and eBay together is safe. PayPal by itself is NOT safe. Way too many scams there.

I would skip that CL deal.

I brought my Air on eBay for $1100 new! So not all killer deals are scrams.

Yup, my gut says it's most likely a scam or someone trying to unload a bad deal from that website he mentions on some poor fool thinking theyre getting a great deal. Many "too good to be true" deals on CL are bait and switch types - and the very least they'll get your email addy to sell to spammers if you respond via email.

He may just have a cr*pload of money and not care he is losing almost half the retail value of the MBA when selling it, or just needs the cash fast. LOL. Buyer beware!!

I'm really not worried.. I paid via paypal with a credit card.. I'm doubly protected.. I won't lose a cent.

That's good cuz this is a rip-off

THe 'red flag' that the obove poster said isn't there is there.......the MULTIPLE LISTING.

There's no incentive for a crook to hijack a account and sell just a single laptop

They will invariably sell a bunch.

This is a hijacked account. How do I know?

the cliche...that's how.

What cliche you ask?...........;)

As you can see from my sig, I'm currently selling a Rev. A on ebay.

I got someone asking about shipping to Indonesia. I told them it would be $50 and they'd have to pay before I send it. They have I think 12 feedback and member since 05. They sent me back and offer for $1500 shipped, I said yes(we'll do it through ebay, not straight paypal)

It seems like I couldn't possibly be scammed or anything if they clear their payment and the monies sitting in my PayPal..but Im still suspicious of anyone over seas haha.

Any input on this? I know its a bit off topic but I don't want to make another thread just for this.

last time I entered a credit Card, PayPal makes you confirm that using a CREDIT CARD with PayPal, you lose the right of the Credit Cards recourse to recover payment. Might want to check into that.....

is everything!
Well..I woke up to a USPS click & ship notification this morning as well.

So the question now is will a "new and sealed" macbook air fit in a USPS large priority mail flat rate box?

I guess we'll know by Monday.. I hope its not a phone book or a box of rocks. :D

If he actually goes through with shipping a box stuffed with phonebook then this guy is a pro lol, Most scammers dont even bother to ship anything.

Just keep in mind that even Nigerian 419 scammers will give you a phone number so you can speak to them and they will reassure you your money is safe.....
