I already knew that if I buy Threadripper I will get a cooler optimized for it:

Maybe the 1900X will come with an air cooler? There would seem to be room in the box for a small one like that in the MSI video.

ASRock said Coffee Lake will be incompatible with current motherboards but they deleted the tweet.

1900X at $50 more than 1800X.

3.8GHz base.

Very good.

Now let's wait for the 1900.

I'm hoping the 1900 will come in at $450, and will overclock (in a similar manner to the r1700) to the same level as the 1900x overclocked. ...and hoping that performance is quite a bit better than the r7 chips.

I think 1900X and 1900 will be both better and worse than Ryzen 7.

This would suck - what would make it worse than Ryzen 7?
Instead of having 8 cores on one die, you have them spread in two, probably in 4 CCX instead of 2. It is uncertain how much slower it is for two CCX to communicate if they are on different dies as opposed to the same one.

It is quad channel, but there is near RAM and far RAM. Although you can configure in the BIOS in which mode it should operate.

Lower core clocks, than for example 1800X.
I think the 1900X is actually faster than the 1800X because the cores are not so closely packed.

From I've read/heard about threadripper - the two dies isn't supposed to affect the performance (in theory). Always heard quad channel memory was supposed to be a benefit.

Quad channel would be a benefit but how it performs depends for TR4 on mode chosen and eventually application optimization.

BTW, is Windows optimized for Threadripper already?

Any pics of the X399 Strix ?

The MSI is looking quite good for not being so expensive.

But TR4 still has a way to go compared to X299.

Maybe AMD should release a 4-core Threadripper, they have an 8-core Epyc after all.

Ryzen Threadripper 1550X and 1550?

Although maybe there are enough bad dies for octacore Epyc but not for quadcore Threadripper or dual core Ryzen.

FreeBSD exhibits similar problems as Linux with Zen.

Apple was probably right to stick to Intel for now.

An octacore Ryzen laptop would be sweet, but without Thunderbolt it would suck. And Thunderbolt but no DisplayPort 1.4 also does.

But there's actually no acceptable laptops at all, or it is difficult to find all which have DP 1.4 .

Well, even not going into such detail, I cannot find proper laptops up to 3.3kg featuring 4x DDR4 that are not Quadro.

Raven Ridge tricore could be a good idea to minimize waste.

Maybe it would perform as well as four cores in games.

The 1900x will have a base clock of 3.80GHz, not sure about the 1900 - hoping the 1900 is priced around $450. If these are anything like the Ryzen 7 series, then they both should overclock to a similar frequency - would love to get about 4.3-4.5GHz (dreaming, right? :D)
So I don't see this being a negative. ...but it's still a wait and see once the testing is done.

I'd be giddy if it performed as well as the 7820x in Adobe PS and Capture One Pro.

It seems the 1950X is the first CPU over $350 to be in the amazon.com top ten.

Micro Center:

1600: $190
1700: $270
1700X: $290
1800X: $350

You can save another $30 if you also buy a motherboard.
