FreeBSD exhibits similar problems as Linux with Zen.

Apple was probably right to stick to Intel for now.
AMD confirmed the problem and said Epyc and Threadripper are not affected.

There's a potential solution.

AMD has a very high competition especially in low-end market.

Core i3 8100 will have 4Cores/4Threads, will cost 119$, and will be clocked at 3.6 GHz@65W TDP.

And AMD does not offer low-power CPUs.
Core i3 8100T with 4C/4T and 3.0 GHz@35W TDP can cost the same 119$.

Threadripper benchmarks:
Cinebench R15:

Geekbench 4 clocked at 4.1 GHz.

This is 1000$ CPU.
All it has to do in efficiency figures is to be just below 7900X, which draws almost 230W under load:

Those are CPU only figures...

And it starts...

He also tested local mode, but I think not Game Mode, which in addition only enables half the cores:

TR:

- Some 1920X boost better than some 1950X
- Some games might run better at stock than overclocked at 4GHz because TR can XFR 4 cores
- Game mode might fix glitches (or refusal to run) in some games, and they might perform better or worse
- Local mode does not affect some applications too much if you want to minimize switching
- If you want to stream gaming, it would be better to get a 7700K and a separate streaming box
- To stream gaming to only one service, the best deal is to just get one Ryzen 7 system
- Skylake-X does not support ECC

I once built a mini-ITX Atom UTM about a fourth the size, and I think heat quickly killed it:

I just finished a more budget oriented Ryzen 1700 build this week. 4 days so far. 4 days of liking Ryzen.

The Area 51 lacks a transparent side panel (with LED) and Vega Limited.

Threadripper does not seem to be a hit on Amazon Europe. Probably too expensive.

It looks like AMD underestimated the impact of EU VAT.

~ £780 (1920X) for CPU quite too much for home PC

motherboard ~ £350 for "cheap" Gigabyte

ASUS ROG ~ £520 expensive....

The 1900X launches at the end of the month for $549.

I agree that we need to see cheaper X399 motherboards.

1900X for $549(no tax) it will be ~ £549(with 20% tax)

I bought few days ago 8-Cores i7-5960X for £460 and it's quite nice

It actually did well in efficiency.
16 core CPU - 180W of power consumption.
10 core CPU - 230W of power consumption.
Efficiency of Zeppelin dies is out of this world.

Which motherboards have additional power connectors for the PCIe slots?

I know the X370 Titanium has one 6-pin.

My 970 AM3+ motherboard has 2 Molex.

From the TR4 motherboards, it seems only the Gigabyte and the two cheapest ASUS don't have any auxiliary PCIe power connector.
